The Derbi!
By: Corey | August 24th, 2007So obviously this weekend is the beginning of La Liga. I am none the more excited then the rest of oyu out there, and a derbi on the first day is gonna be intense. I was pessimistic about it earlier in the summer and I still am, I tip my hate to Atletico, they have made som great signings and they have a decent coach, so they will push for a Euro spot this year and they look in better shape then we do right now (who doesnt?). I know, I know, Im a Madridista, im not suppose to say Atletico is better then us, what next, Barcelona being the greatest team ever, no FIFA gave us that distinction, k thanks. But, I am unsure about the integration of the new players and Schusters tactics, so I guess the first real test is tomorrow at the Bernabeu. Here is the squad list:
24-08-2007
Squad list for the derby
Twenty men are called up for the clash with Atletico Madrid
Bernd Schuster has called up 20 men for the derby against Atletico Madrid. The reason for this is that it won’t be known until tomorrow if Cannavaro will be able to play due to a sprain on his right ankle. Casillas and Pepe, recovered from their injuries, have made the list. The new signings, Heinze and Robben, still have to catch up with the rst of the team and have been left out.
Goalkeepers: Casillas, Dudek
Defenders: Salgado, Ramos, Cannavaro, Pepe, Metzelder & Marcelo
Midfielders: De la Red, Gago, Baptista, Sneijder, Drenthe & Robinho
Forwards: Raúl, Van Nistelrooy, Soldado & Saviola
Heres the last derbi I think, I couldnt get it to stream so it may be old, oh well enjoy.
The forgotten man in my formation discussion the yesterday was Julio Baptista and I apologize to the Beast, my bad on that one. Baptista may in fact play Guti’s role if Guti is well, not up for it. Anyways, heres a link to the team dinner
http://www.realmadrid.com/articulo/rma42047.htm
Obivously neither Heinze or Robben will play tomorrow, which means Drenthe will probably slot into left back, although I prefer Marcelo as of now. Torres didnt shake off his knock and he is out for the game, to bad. Also, Higuain is out but is training alone I believe so he will be back in a week or two.
I love Hall & Oates, goes down so good. Private Eyes Their watching you
Casillas made it, because no one wants to see Jerzy Dudek play. Here is my predicted startin XI, with Raul…
Casillas- Sergio Ramos Pepe Metz Drenthe- Robinho Diarra Sneijder Guti-Raul RVN
I say Metzelder cause I dont think Cannavaro will pass the fitness test, and because he was horrible for Italy. Atleticos squad as is follows:
Leo Franco, Abbiati - Seitaridis, Antonio Lopez, Mariano Pernia, Fabiano Eller, Ze Castro, Perea, Ibanez, Juan Valera - Luccin, Raul Garcia, Maxi, Jurado, Maniche, Cleber, Simão, Cuevas, Reyes - Forlan, Luis Garcia, Agüero, Silva, Braulio, Mista,
Well, Braulio went on loan to Salamanca I thought, but then again maybe Getafe… Who cares, all these clowns could play, I dont give a shit its fucking Atletico, they can put sheep in jerseys and ill still hate. Anyways, my prediction for scoring the RVN gets 1, but Atletico get 1 from Luis Garcia, cause he is a sneaky bitch. 1-1 is a fair result, but Atletico may still nip it. Lets hope Schustie fires the boys up for this one.
No grapevine today, Im beat and have to go to work for another couple hours again. Slept at this girls house and her bed is right next to her window which is right next to the damn highway, so I got to hear New Havens finest driving by every hour busting crackheads. Needless to say, im tired and hungover. Heres a delicious morsel of gossip, one that I hope doesnt come true: http://www.transfermarketweb.com/index.php?action=read&idsel=2738

Good question, the official list on the RM website is what I pasted from, and he isnt listed on that, but on the squad list picture to the left his name is on the list. Diarra is in the squad, so thats how he will start.

No way Atleti comes out on top 1-3. 1-1 goals by RVN and Forlan, I decided before even reading this post. It will be so cagey at first because it’s the first match of the season and it happens to be the derbi.
Not a great game, I don’t think, in terms of football at least, but the atmosphere should be pretty revved up. I’ll be cheering on the rojiblancos in this one, that’s for sure.

They’ve been playing very well–attack-wise– with the new additions and will put a lot of pressure on that Re*l Mandril defence.

Call me a homer, but i think 2-1 will do it. The boys should be pumped up for the home opener and by the city rivalry. RVN and Robinho for Madrid, Forlan for Atletico.
btw, did you guys ever hear the fact last year that whenever Robinho scored, Madrid won? It’s true - too bad he didn’t score more often!

Atl**co have looked good in the pre-season and the new signings seem to have gelled well. Though they were very very lucky to win against Getafe. Reyes will prove a menace to the defence, he’s got some real pace. If Drenthe starts as a LB, he’ll have a lot of catching up to do. Reyes will just pounce on the gap like how Navas n Alves did.
I think if Cannavaro is fit to start, Ramos will play in the center with Salgado on the right. Schuster might just go for experience. Even a single mistake from Pepe and the crowd will get on his arse. But, Schuster said Pepe will start in the pre-game press conference.. so…
I would be happy if we can get a point from the match, not because they’re a very good team. It’s our first game and we’re yet to sort out our tactics. so a point will be good.

I hope Marcelo starts at left back and Drenthe wings. Guti and Baptista (or De la Red, I’m still torn) in the middle, Robinho right, Soldado and Ruud up front. I don’t think this will happen, but it’s what I want.
Atletico (and this is not a nod to you, atleti, it’s to your team, who outclass you tenfold) has been playing PHENOMENONLY in the pre-season. They’ve been really exciting to watch and they have what it takes to finish top four this year. I’d be happy with a tie, but think that if Guti is on, he’ll slip enough through-balls into the box to provide plenty of opportunities to score. I have no idea what to expect, but it will be a great match!

To be fair, it’s only since the incorporation of the new arrivals that the the team have been playing some astonishingly fantastic stuff; literally brought a tear to my eye that 0-3 UEFA qualifier result. Before that point, it was grim. Very grim. As in painful.

NB: I realise this is rather premature to say at this point, butI do agree: I think this derbi has the makings of being a true classic.

So fuckin’ excited. And Panicked. I don’t own a tv, and the pub where i go to watch all the games isn’t listing the derbi on it’s schedule. They’re showing the Barfa match and Espanyol v Valladolid- Wha? I CAN NOT miss this match! HALA MADRID!!!

Okay - I’m with it. I found it. But the fact that it’s not being shown live is facking crap.

John- I don’t think Guti and Baptista will work in the midfield. We would hardly have any possession.
I’m pretty sure Raul will start. Schuster would want to go with experience considering it’s such a huge match. Also, he wouldn’t risk the fan’s ire by benchin Raul in the first match. The coach has been hinting that Raul has not been playing in his position, so he wouldn’t bench him before giving him another shot.

Casillas might not make it..which would mean Real Madrid is in serious trouble.
Being the biased cule I am, my money is definitely on Atleti. Aupa Atleti!

How is Casillas feeling from his injury?
He’s fine now. He has no problems. This is what the coach had to say, so I guess he’ll start.

I’ll definitely be watching this game. How is the head to head record of both teams? I remember last year Atletico used to be a bogey team for Barca (I think).
Will Reyes be playing against his old team? I am still angry at him, btw, though also relieved because I didn’t really want him at Lyon, but it still sucks to be rejected.

Inara: head to head? It’s all Real Madrid, since 1999. Not even close.

why didn’t they show the madrid derby on sky sports-and does this meen the end of spanish football on english television?

richiebarsa: apparently there’s a little legal dispute about the TV rights for some matches (maybe all Madrid matches?) between 2 Spanish media groups, so they had to show the Sevilla-Getafe match…
