The Smack Talk Begins
By: Corey | March 26th, 2008No, not what you would hear on the basketball courts of Harlem, but Freddie Kanoute is ready for the match with Real this weekend and this to say about it.
Madrid have not been consistent lately and we have to take advantage of that,” Kanouté said.
“We are going to find it very difficult in their stadium because they have players that can win any game, but it is a game that we are really looking forward to.
“To play Real Madrid at any time is good because they are a team that everyone wants to play against and we always have good games against them. Our motivation is definitely greater.
“It was a tough blow, but we are still ver close and believe it is possible. We have to remain hopeful.
“Qualifying for the UEFA Cup is the least we can aim for, but we have to everything we can to reach the Champions League. That is what we want, but we have to be in Europe.”
We do not rotate as much because we are playing less games now. We are playing once a week and maybe the coach does not think we need to make so many changes.
“At the beginning of the season things did not go well either and that was when we had a different coach.
“The problem is that people expect even more this year because we have had two very good season and when we fail the critics are even louder.”
So Kanoute is flying the flag high for his Andalucians counterparts. The question is, will they come into the Bernabeu and hand Real yet another loss, which would surely put the title race on thin ropes, or does Real muster up anough gump to win this game and get their season back on track?
All eyes are gonna be on Spain playing Italy tonight, 5pm eastern time. I will be watching intently to see if we can put up a fight like we did against France and pull out a win, if so we have to be considered a title contender for the EURO. Which is why I hope we loose, because expectations and press attention usually lead to the downfall of the Spain team. So a lose to Italy may hurt morale going into the tournament, but it will leave us with so motivation to do better and no annoying press attention. Its a double edged sword with La Furia Roja sometimes….

Sevilla’s been our nemesis over recent games. I was looking at the stats and of the last 10 games we’ve won 3, drawn 1 and lost the other 6. The last time we beat them was in the same fixture last May (3-2) so that’s one small crumb of comfort.
On Spain, I struggle to remember a tournament where they’ve not disappointed me. Our best chances to progress past the QF stage in recent times were in Korea/Japan (dodgy refereeing decisions, but surely we should have been able to beat Korea nonetheless) and Euro 96 against England, with a disallowed Julio Salinas goal and the penalty on Alfonso that wasn’t given.

Spain wins! A Barcelona player (Puyol) gets injured (Laporta’s gonna love that), Villa scores, and a bad play by Cannavaro sets up the winning goal. It’s just like in La Liga.
