Real Madrid 1-1 Real Murcia
By: Corey | November 25th, 2007
What a dull game, Real looked life less barring the odd Guti magic. And the Guti magic dried up after the first half. He was the villian today, not marking De Lucas as he ran in for a free header for Murcia’s goal as well as kicking out at Cesar Arzo to get a straight red. Infuriating I know, but its the risk you run when someone of his temporment plays. You count on the genius, but the Dr. Jeckyl/Mr. Hyde factor is always there.

MATCH SUMMARY:
1- MURCIA: Notario; De Coz, Ochoa, Arzo, Peña; De Lucas, Movilla, Abel (Bruno, 90’), Richi; Baiano (Goitom, 73’) e Iñigo (Alonso, 80’).

NOTES: Matchday 13 of the Spanish League played at the Nueva Condomina. Attendance: 32,000.
The team played average-ly, if thats a word. Ruud and Raul rarely looked threatening, and to be honest I think both should have been taken off alot earlier. These are the times when Roberto Soldado needs to come in, but he was no where to be found Schuster. Higuain and Robben added little when they came on, while Gago and Diarra were solid if unspectacular. As John said, Gago gave away possession far to often, as did Guti and Robinho. The game was disjointed, a midfield scrap that suited Murcia just fine.
A draw is a positive result for them, as they will take points where they can get them. But for Real its a disappointment, it allowed Barca to gain 2 points, while Villareal couldnt capitalize with a draw to Almeria, Negredo saving our skin. Real always face the dilemma of the lower teams clogging up the park as to stiffle any attacking intention from Real. This was sort of the case today, but Mallorca took it to us and almost got a win, so I dont know what to say without contradicting myself.
Real simply need to learn to play in a different way every game. Their play is becoming predictable, and it lacks pace and width. Usually it has some with Robinho/Marcelo and Sergio Ramos patrolling the flanks, but they were off today, leaving Gago to pass the ball to the other team. Sad. De La Red is desperately needed right about now. Or give Sneijder a go there, he cant do much worse then Gago. 61% posession and two shots on goal is awful, so Guti, Gago and Robinho must be blamed for not creating chances for the strikers. 61% possesion means two things to me with this result. You need lots of scoring chances with that much of the ball, and you need to defend set pieces aggresively because thats the only way the other team will score if they never have the ball. We did neither.
Scuster’s brief post-match comments:
We cannot look for excuses, we played a bad game,” Schuster said.
“It was partly our fault that Murcia were able to come back.”
“Guti has been doing well and the sending offs have not been a problem up until now. But he had the wrong attitude,”
“Something like this comes up every day and I am not going to spend any time giving it credit,”

Gago’s post-match comments:
We just want to tally as many points as we can, both at home and away,” he said.
“We started off well today, but slowly stopped playing like we know how to.
“We lost control of the match and that’s why we were held.
“Teams are very motivated when they take the pitch against Real Madrid, but we have to be ready to prove that we’re a great team and that we intend on winning every match.”
“I don’t think the international break will affect us at all. We’re not taking a break.
“We defend our national team shirts with pleasure. I think we all came back healthy and very eager to keep fighting for this shirt.”

Pedja’s Comments:
“We knew that it was going to be a difficult game because these breaks are always bad for us,”
“We saw that against Espanyol as well. We dominated and scored when we were fresh, but looked fatigued in the second half.
“We knew that we were going to suffer, and it is reasonable that we have managed to get a draw out of it. Fatigue was the key factor in the game.”
“Guti should not have reacted at such an important moment. However, these things happen sometimes.”
Guti should not have reacted that way, he was dumb to kick out like that. I did not hear what Cesar Arzo said but even if he called Guti a cum-guzzling queer you hold back. Cesar Arzo for me is a quality young defender, on loan from Villareal, and if we so happened to buy him I wouldnt mind. A Cesar Arzo-Garay partnership would look nice. My main complaint from the match is that Schuster’s bench was lacking of goals, creativity and the lot. Drenthe and Robben are not much for me. Robben is coming off another injury, so you can not count on him for to much. And Drenthe is not a creative player. He is not great defensively either, but I think he needs to learn the left back trade, its where he can get into the team.
Metz and Torres, self explanatory. Higuain is good, Saviola is not. Soldado, Baptista, Balboa need to be on the bench, they are much better at coming on late to change a game. I honestly think Soldado and Baptista will be gone this winter market, but if I was the coach I would off load Saviola, loan out Drenthe, play Balboa more often and buy a creative central midfielder if Sneijder is gonna be used on the left/right. But hey, thats me.
As a sidenote, Sao Paolo “want FIFA to step in because we have not received any official approach. They have been dealing directly with the player. We’ll fight until the end because justice must be done and this situation cannot be allowed to continue”. The player of course is Breno, and this all makes me not want the kid. If he is negotiating outside his club and has an attitude that he wont do certain medicals, then stay in Brazil you fuck.

Guti is a great player, it wasn’t his fault that they scored. He could land in the EPL or Serie A in a few years because he is tall and speedy. Plus, not many central midfiedlers are left footed. Guti is a very very talented player, and just because he loses his temper a few times doesn’t mean he is a bad player and its his fault that goals are scored.

Guti could play in the EPL or Serie A right now, he wouldn’t have to wait a few years.

I never said he was bad, if you read my posts, i idolize Guti. And he coud play their right now, or 10 years ago. In a few years he will be retiring, he is already 30. And the goal was his fault, he didnt follow De Lucas into the box, and he had a free header. Watch the replays.

I was at the game (I have a season ticket) and my bias impression is that Madrid were lucky to get away with a point. The excuse of being tired doesn`t wash; Murcia also had 2 very influential internationals missing (ever presents Pablo Garcia and Regueiro) and the replacements (especially Abel) were superb. Hope this will give Real Murcia confidence to climb the table.

The straight red on Guti was harsh. Yes, he lost his temper and lashed out, but the actual contact was minimal. Now the bonehead higher-ups at Madrid are contemplating fining Guti, which is ridiculous. Schuster is once again standing up for him, as he did with Robinho. Big sigh.
My immediate concern at the moment is that Guti will not be present this weekend against Racing, who have only conceded 9 goals in 14 games, 2 goals in the last 9, and have shut out the likes of Barcelona, Getafe, and now Valencia. Love him or hate him (I belong to the former) Guti makes goals. He is by far our best playmaker, and arguably one of the finest in Spain. To say he will be sorely missed against Racing is a huge understatement.

Pepper- I wish I could see the game at the stadium too, your luck, savour every moment. As for the fatigue aspect. I dont buy into it. Not yet atleast. In two weeks I may say its credible, but not now. Murcia have a good squad and a great coach, so their performance was not out of the blue.
john- the red was a bit ridiculous, Cesar Arzo went down on purpose. What I didnt like was that Guti knew he was sent off and looked like he didnt care. As for fining him, thats stupid. Schuster said it best, this is the first time this happened. If it happens two or three times then it needs to be discussed, but as for right now, its a non-factor. And he will be missed against Santander, Robben, Robinho and hopefully Sneijder will need to step up their game to break down Santander, Garay is a formidable player, as Cesar Arzo showed he was when keeping Ruud and Raul under wraps.
