A Couple Of Things

By: Corey | August 26th, 2008

So I lost my way when it came to posting the Daily Grapevine, but I got so sick and tired of the Cristiano Ronaldo saga, and I have already grown tired of the Robinho crap. But it seems that this deal will set off a domino effect in Spain, England, Italy and Holland, with as many as 8 teams involved. Kind of like an NBA trade. So here it is:

- Robinho has gotten his wish supposively, as Real has accepted an offer of 35 million euros, although I have also seen 45 million euros. 35 seems low given what we first paid 33 million euros for him. An accurate price quote on him wont be out until he is finally sold, but I think its gonna happen. Whatever Robinho, pssshhhhhh.

- Schuster does not Robinho to go, hoping he will stay and continue with his project. That being a CL medal this year. Although some say he is desperate to get Robinho out of Madrid.

- Possible Robinho replacements include Diego Capel at 15 million, even though Del Nido himself has said there is a gentlemans agreements between Sevilla and Barca/Madrid not to approach Cappel unless they consult with Sevilla first. Of course not, because 15 million is cheap for him. I dont see that one happening.

- Also in the offing is Santi Cazorla of Vilarreal, who supposively would love to come to Madrid. When asked about the interest, he said it would an honor and yaddaa yaddaa yaah. Not really a replacement for Robinho, but he would help with our lack of width. Vilarreal probably wont be to happy to let him go though.

- Klaas Huntelaar is still being talked up in the press as the striker Real will go after for 25 million, even though Van Basten said he would stay at Ajax this year. Of an even bigger interest is that supposively (I use that word alot with transfer rumors) Real has upped their offer for David Villa to 52 million euros. Again, its all here say, and I dont expect it to be resolved until the window closes.

- Sergio Ramos wants the pay raise he deserves, up from 6 million gross (before taxes_ to 6 million per annum (after taxes he gets 6 million). I say what the hell, if your gonna throw redic cash at Ronaldo, Villa and Robinho, your gonna have to account for this stuff to. Sergio just wants more money for hair products, skimpy bathing suits and brinzer for his chest. Because you know the WAGs love a bronzed up body.

- Check out this nice little homage Real has paid to Ruben de la Red’s goal in the Supercopa, comparing it to Santi Aragon’s goal in the 1990 Supercopa against Barca here. Nice to see everyone has warmed up to him again, he cerainly is my new man crush since Balboa left me :-( .

- Usain Bolt, the worlds fastest man, is a Real Madrid fan. He is my third favorite Jamaican behind Bob Marley, (I am a huge reggae fan, and have some Rastafarin beliefs) and Alan “Skilly” Cole (Jamaican footballer who was incredible in his day but never played outside Jamaica). The guy is incredible, his speed is unsurpassed and he is a freak of nature. I live with D1 Cross Country and Track and Field athletes and even they said that he was astonishing to watch. Well Usain, your more then welcome to traing with Real as long as you sign a pair of your golden boots and do that dance you did after winning the 100m

- The Trophee Santiago Bernabeu, a cup competition in honor of our late and great president, is tomorrow, I believe at 2pm. We will be hosting Sporting Lisbon, in the yearly showcase that is a curtain raiser to our league season, although I think the SuperCopa did a good job with that. Here is a little ditty on it if you didnt know. Typically all first team players get a runout in the game, but since we have not won our own cup in a few years (pathetic, yes) I feel like Schuster will treat this as a fine tune up for the first team. Which means a similar lineup to the SuperCopa Second leg, and maybe a few substitues at half time, and maybe a few towards the end of the match. We will get to see Joao Moutinho and Miguel Veloso in action, either player would have been a good signing for us but our midfield is set now.

- Raul, Guti, Casillas and Salgado got their Veterans Club Cards (finally!) from Don Stefano the other day. Its nothing more then a symbolic gesture, although Salgado might get some use out of his this season. Its pretty clear that the 4 captains will be Real for life, but this is nothing more than a PR stunt, as Raul and Guti have a few years left in them and Casillas has 10+. Oh well, nice to see anyways.
