A Sad Day For Corey

By: Corey | June 25th, 2008

And while I have been advocating it and had expected for awhile, today was finally the day that Javier Balboa left for Benfica. Realizing he barely ever played this past season (when he did play he either scored or had an assist, talk about effective) after over 20 games the previous year with Santander, and that Real were craving CRON’s sweaty Porteguese nut sack, Babloa moved on. Being a Castilla youth product, who grew up in Madrid after emigrating from The Equatorial Guinea, he was the pride and joy of yours truely for his silky skills, and his awesome dread locks.

He moves to Benfica where Quique Flores can begin to use a player he had coached, albeight breifly, in the Real youth teams. He signed a 4 year contract, and although the intial fee was suppose to be 6 million euros, it should be less because Real will insert a buy-back clause in the contract. Because we all know he will do pretty well and when Schuster is no longer the coach, Real will want him back. Benfica have not had a right winger for some time now, with a few different players never really fitting in there. I expect Balboa to do some big things with Benfica, where he will show his true class and impress the Porteguese Liga.

Here is a breif retrospect of his Real days (*sob*):

Corey, I am also deeply saddened by our loss. As you know, I shared your admiration for Balboa and thought he had immense potential. I really thought we could use a player of his pace, especially if Robinho ends up leaving. He’s electric when he’s on the ball, and is a major headache for the opposition’s fullback. Just too bad to see him leave, but we do have a logjam in the middle. I would have MUCH rather seen us get rid of a player like Drenthe though. We DEFINITELY should include a buyback.

PLEASE CALDERON AND PEDJA STOP FLIRTING WITH THE REMOTE CHANCE THAT YOU WILL GET RONALDO…EVEN IF THEY DO, IT WILL COST THE TEAM MUCH MORE THAN HE IS WORTH. GRANTED HE’S THE WORLD’S BEST, BUT THIS NONSENSE IS SO ANNOYING TO EVERY FOOTBALL FAN, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT YOU LIKE REAL. SO SHUT UP AND SIGN HIM, OR SHUT UP AND SIGN SOME OTHER GUYS. I HATE HEARING ABOUT IT EVERYDAY ON SKY/FOXSOCCER REPORT/GOLTV NEWS. (vent finished)

A quick request: Are you guys gonna post comments and/or ratings for Madridistas who were involved in Euro? I’m really interested to hear what people have to say about Metz. I thought Spain could have really used Guti in that last game against Italy as well.

Thanks fellas for keeping the blogs coming during the offseason, keeps me entertained and up on things.

I will be James, but I will wait until the final as 3 of our Madridistas are still active in the tournament and I dont want to rate them without them finishing.

Kaushik, I am not posting from India, just the US. It appears you are posting from India though, but the ip traces for posting that give flags are pretty bad, so I wouldnt believe them.
