Ajax Open Up Talks for Huntelaar
By: Corey | December 2nd, 2008Klaas Jan Huntelaar has been one of many forwards linked to a winter window move to Real Madrid due to the absence of Ruud Van Nistelrooy and the general rubbishness of Javier Saviola. Of course Huntelaar is an attractive proposition not only because of his goal scoring abilities, but also because he is not cup tied for the Champions League, something that Real desperately needs. While the deal is by no means completed yet, as reports mid-afternoon yesterday, intial talks are underway and a deal worth around 20 million euros could be finalized in the coming days.
Of course its never good to leak transfer dealings to the public, thus putting them under intense scrutiny from the press, but we all know Real rarely makes a signing without much of anybody knowing about it. Pepe was probably the last player that was signed in a relative amount of secrecy, but even then there was a few days notice. Huntelaar will come in to the Madrid side around January 5th, and pretty much be expected to score right away, which is alot of pressure on a lad who has never played outside of Holland.
His strike rates have always been impressive ever since he left PSV’s youth setup to begin life as a journeyman of sorts. 46 games and 34 for goals for Herenveen in the 04-05 season has been followed up with 90 games for Ajax and 75 goals since 2005. He also has scored 18 goals in 22 games for the u-21 team, and 10 goals in 18 games for the full national team. He certainly scores alot of goals, as he is adept with both feet as well as his head. To bad our crossing is absolute shit so he will have to figure out other ways to get his head to the ball.
I think its a good move for Real, simply because we need a striker. Huntelaar will score for us, he scores everywhere he goes it seems. He wont have a season saving impact on the team though, dont expect miracles. Karim Benzema would be my preferred player, but he wont leave until this summer if Lyon dont progress far enough in the CL, so lets keep our fingers crossed. With a deal for Huntelaar though, Benzema seems like a pipe dream considering we will have 6 first team strikers for the summer, with only Saviola a certain sell-off.
A Huntelaar-Pipita partnership sounds like the old Morientes-Raul partnership that served us so well early on in the decade. But we must not discount Raul or the returning Ruud next season, while Albero Bueno has made a strong case for a first team shirt next season, although I expect him to be loaned out. Huntelaar is seemingly on his way, what are your thoughts on this move?

Hunter seems to be a good signing. but I think we have more than enough Dutch Player in our squad, so i don’t totally like the idea to bring him to Real.
Furthermore, Van Basten and Ajax Chairman ‘ve just said that Hunter will remain in Amsterdam at least until summer.
I also like Keirrison but he must take (maybe a lot of) time to shine. and we hav no time for him.
and how about Villa?? i know it’s impossible but i’ve just seen this article on goal.com –> Valencia Face Up To Bankruptcy Fears (http://www.goal.com/en/news/1719/valencia/2008/12/02/992271/valencia-face-up-to-bankruptcy-fears)
Could it be a chance to sign him. He would be a perfect signing for us. Proven, on form, and can make immediately impact. ..maybe it’s time to wake up, i hav enough daydream.

somebody took a dump on our team and called it Saviola

Saviola is not that bad, he just doesn’t have get too many chances although I do agree he is out of place at Real. He hasn’t played normally and consistently for many many years…
Villa to Real is impossible.

Seriously, what’s wrong with Saviola? He’s a good player, and he deserves to be on a team as a starter. I have no idea why he’s had such bad luck.

To be honest, I’m not really happy about our persuit for Huntelaar. He sin’t they striker we currently need at the momment, he reliy to much on the service which isn’t being provided form the midfield currently. He’s a 25 year old striker thats entering—if not alreafy in his prime, he’s not going to get better than what he currently is. He’s not wont score as many goals as he has for Ajax, the defending in the Netherlands isn’t anywhere near the level of what it is in Spain. I Don’t see anything specail about the transfer whether he’s anatural replacment to Ruud or not, He just hasn’t poven to be a knock out stage (UC/UCL) strike which is also worring for me.
Huntelaar is a good player with a great finishing ability, siz and height. He would be a good addiltion but not someone who I feel would be great at Madrid.
Personaly I would perfer Keirrison, He’s young and also a pure goals score like Huntelaar and there’s a wide possibilty of imporvement ahead of him. Unlike most target men who disappear inmatches, he doesn’t, he gets involved which I think is important for any form of attacking football. K9, I think i built for La Liga, he reminds me of Hugo Sanchez, not fancy, hardly ever dribles and is reliable. He’ll always get the job done.
Keirrison is just a smarker target in my eyes, however Huntelaar would be a good option, I just feel the team will continue in the same path of over reliying on him like we have for Van Nistelrooy. Right now, I have faith in God that Keirrison will come.
When was the last time Vanecia sold a player to Madrid? I don’t know what happened but since Mijatovic…Nothing. I don’t think Valencia will sell to Madrid, I think they would sell to Barca or the EPL before they consider Madrid.

Keirrison? You think Brazilian defending is any better than the eredivisie? This is why I am annoyed with KJH’s move: I am not sure any of you Madridistas want him, and you are going to buy Benzema to replace KJH this summer anyway. I hope KJH makes you forget Ruud, but then you will forget your initial reservations about him anyway. Oh well.

James, Saviola is a decent player but lets face it he just doesnt fit with real madrid. He is madrids worse striker at our disposal and i think most madrid fans would prefer to see Bueno given a chance. I would like to see Bueno given a starting role just to see what impact he has over the full game, He certainly has the talent and looks like he could eventually take up Rauls spot on the team. Just seeing him reminds me of a young Raul. On Huntelaar’s possible arrival i think he really is a natural goalscorer and would compliment Higuains play. Just thinking of that striking partnership excites me!

It’s officail, I can’t say I’m not disappionted but What can I do…
Matt, I’m not realy concerned about the defending in there respective leagues, It’s just that Keirrsion has a whole lot to build on and improve while Huntelaar is basically a finished product.
p.s. Huntelaar isn’t even in the same class of Ruud. Ruud is clutch and a big game player, From what I’ve seen from Huntelaar he’s hot and cold and is yet to come big for Ajax in European contention.

im not sure if a lot of you gents here have seen huntelaar play more than one game , i know the defenders in the dutch league arent as good as la ligas but havent you guys seen him score plenty of goals with the dutch national team ?? bar higuain he is better than other striker we have at the moment ( ruud’s out for the season so im not counting him )and he isnt all about poaching as you guys seem to be thinking but you’ll find that out yourselves once he starts playing for us
anyways now that he is n the bag who is next ? di maria ?

Gents, it’s official, Klaas Jan Huntelaar is our new striker, for 20 million euros, plus 4 more based on objectives…
I’m happy about this signing, he gives us a presence up front that we lack now that ruud is gone for the year, we’ll just have to be patient and wait for his debut…
The downside of this signing, is that I think we won’t go after Benzema next summer, he would’ve been a hell of a signing!!!!
Take care everybody, hopefully I’ll find a bar in Cyprus so I can watch the game

Huntelaar is a great signing, but I think he only came because of the injury crisis at Real Madrid and since he is the only proven goalscorer currently available to play at the UCL.

I still don’t think Huntelaar is a good signing. He is 25 and hasn’t proven himself against good teams and 20 million (+7 million) is WAY too much.

Akram-
I gotta agree that the circumstances dictated the signing, but Huntelaar’s name has been tossed around the Madrid boardroom before, so he’s a guy we would consider signing even if we weren’t under such pressure. Why we didn’t before? Maybe a little too much money left on the contract, waiting for him to develop more??? Now he’s only got 1 1/2 years left, so I know the buyout isn’t as big. Anyways, the man can score and he’s not cup-tied…I’d say he’s just what we needed all things considered.Somebody said there would be a problem with all the Dutch players on the team? I would think that the familiarity and comfort level they have from playing together on the international level can only benefit Madrid. Besides, it makes Huntelaar’s transition to the squad that much easier for him.

Yes! The Hunter is now The Hunted…The next Ballon d’Or. The San Marco of Real. All The very best to him in this new adventure…Champions League Trophy is Coming!

Im sweet and sour about this deal but I guess I’ll just have to wait and see how it goes. Winter singings are usually unsuccessful when they arrive, you most often see them start to perform in the late stages of the League. He’s a signing for the next few years, I don’t expect nothing major from him right now.
Di Maria, I think is good prospect, If he develops the way as expected he may fill the shos of Robinho with his potentail talent. Arshavin? I have doubts…
Does the arrival of Hunterlaar mean the exit of Ruud?

In all truth, we have to see how he performs in the league before judging if he’s good enough or not. Ruud Van Nistelrooy wasnt much younger( he was 25 too, i think) when he joined Man Utd after only playing in the Eredivisie. And he turned out quite fine. Also, im sure the better defences in Liga will be cancelled out by the better service from Real’s players (hopefully) as compared to those of Ajax.
Let’s hope Huntelaar turns out to be a great addition.Posted from

Diiernce being that Ruud had joind Manchester Utd. after just turning 24, whereas Huntelaar, in 6 months will be 26. It a difference of a year and a half where Ruud was in his last stages of development as a players and ridding of hot and cold runs, while Huntelaar is already in his prime and carries that ‘habit’ with him (which isn’t easy to rid of). I just hope he isn’t very one dimensional…
I think If Huntelaar is anything like Ruud, he’ll be a success. Rudd with minimal service, comes up big even when we don’t deserve to win (Betis and Zenit game). Ruud has become our backbone which we reliy on so much, he has been so clutch. The Mangement expect the same from Huntelaar.

i personally like this signing this guy could score from about every possible angle , i know the dutch league is nowhere as good as la liga but remember he also scored 25 goals in the uefa/CL and 10 goals with the national team so its not only in the dutch league that he is able to score and he is only 25 which means he has at least 8 more years in him
anyways calderon said that our second would also be young and able to play in the CL so………..who could it be ? di maria is the only one that comes to mind because like huntelaar we’ve been linked to him too for a while nowPosted from

I don’t have a problem with Huntelaar’s ability, but I’m not sure about his price tag.
However, although we are a little bit short up front, our problems are more to do with width and linking up between the back line and the midfield, as well as getting hold of a decent left back. This signing does not fix any of those issues at all.

Sorry Andres, I just find it hard to say that he was a great but especilly considering his price, 20+7ME if far to much for me, 16-18ME would be a fine price for me. His numbers do appear to look good in the UCL/UC but consider this:
07/08 CL playoffs: 0 goals (advance)
07/08 CL qualifiers: 0 goals (fail to qualify)
07/08 UC 1st round: 2 goals (fail to advance to group stage)
NOTE: Both goals were scored after they were vertually eliminated in overtime.06/07 CL quaifiers: 2 goals (fail to qualify)
NOTE: Both goals were scored in the 1st leg, he was poor in the 2nd.
06/07 UC group stage: 4 goals/4 games (advance to knock out round)
06/07 UC round of 32: 2 goals - both in the 2nd leg (fail to advance)
NOTE: Did well.I can continue, but point being he isn’t a big game player, he’s lukewarm and not very convinving, he doesn’t strike me as a big game player who can prove very important. I just don’t like the idea of relying on him for majority of our games and looking to him to score our important goals. He a great goal scorer who will score no doubt but it’s crutail the he mast be able to perform in the champions.
There just to many parts of his game where he lacks compired to v.Nistelrooy. Ruud is just in a differnet class to him. If we signed him two—three years ago i wouldn’t have so much doubts but he’s been in the Eredivisie for a little to long.
I hope he proves me wrong, though. I can see him scoring about 18-24goals per season.
I think Di Maria will definitley be our next target, he has all the tools to be a great player but it depends on how he develops and how he is guided. I would sign him for 16ME no more than that.

julian i understand your concern buddy but let’s hope that im right for the sake of madrid lol
anyways have any of you guys read calderon’s interview today ? he kept on stressing over and over again that huntelaar was schuster’s choice ahahah he wants to make it clear that he didnt have anything to do with it and that he is not interfering with the coach’s work i thought that was funny
he also said that our next signing will definitly be a winger !!
im confident that after the winter break we’ll do better than we are at the moment but let’s pray we dont drop too many points by thenHALA MADRID!!!!
