Cannavaro Progressing Nicely
By: Corey | July 7th, 2008
Fabio Cannavaro’s injury recovery is going smoothly, with the rehab ahead of schedule and Fabio hoping to join his team mates in the Algarve before training, albeit lightly, with the team in Irding. Here is what he had to say:
“I’ve been working with several physiotherapists and my recovery is coming along nicely. I will accompany my teammates to the Algarve and then take part in preseason training. I don’t know if I will be able to train at the same rhythm as the rest of the squad, but I do feel pretty good. I was very lucky.”
“I was very happy to see Spain win the Euro. They played extremely well and deserved to win, although here in Italy we say they won all their matches except the one against us. They did play very well and I am happy for my teammates. Now we have European and world champions on the team. It’s great for Real Madrid.”
“We’ve won the last two leagues, which means we must be doing something right. Now we have to begin believing we can win the Champions League. I think it’s every player’s goal. We’re going to work hard to bring it home. I have never won it, but I know how happy I would be if I did.”
“We have a solid team and we proved it last season by remaining top throughout the year. We played consistent football and we’ll only get stronger. We want to do better in Europe, so hopefully we’ll have a little luck on our side.”
“I miss contact with the ball. I didn’t play in the Euro and I am anxious to return to competition.”
“All I think about is fulfilling my contract with Real Madrid. I am happy with the team and the city. My kids are in school there and they are happy. The club has an ambitious project and I feel cared for by the fans. Time will tell where I end my career, but for now I’m staying put with Real Madrid. I am eager to win.”
Besides the comment about how Spain “didnt beat” Italy, eveything sounds good. If thats all Italy has to hold their head up about for this tournament, it shows how bad they were. But none the less, we hope Fabio makes a speedy recovery, as we dont have young stud Garay as his understudy this year, and the walking Glassman Metzelder is always an injury doubt. This is an important year for Cannavaro. It certainly appears to be his last with Real, although I said that last year about him. It will be his chance to win the Champions League, so he shall take his rehab seriously so that he can play through the season and help us to win more titles.
On a side note, how ridiculous is the whole Barca confidence vote? They are shooting themselves in the foot much like we were with Florentino Perez in charge. Laporta has done a decent job, it isnt his fault Rijkaard lost all motivation because his star players were crap last year. Considering I am a Madrid fan I shouldnt be saying this, but I kinda feel bad for them, I would like to see a competitive Barca in the league next season. But even with the excellent moves they have made so far this summer, if the no confidence vote goes through, the club could be in a state of shock. Football comes in cycles, and I have not doubt that eventually Barca will be back on top and we will have a wonderful scandal/upheavel to deal with in a few years. Its just how it goes for the big two in Spain.

I knew goal.com were full of nonsense, but didn’t think they will stoop that low.
About Canna, what are his chances of keeping his starting position after this injury?Posted from

i don’t think he’ll have a problem getting him back into the starting XI… aside from Pepe, they don’t have another elite-level centreback, cuz Metzelder is really second-rate, and Ramos is the stand-in, but works better as Real’s rightback.
