Comment Away on El Clasico!
By: Corey | December 13th, 2008
I will be watching the game and checking the comments section during the game. Lets have some good discussion during El Clasico!
Check out this cool graph Marca made. They have some pretty smart people over there….
Expected Lineups
Real Madrid: Casillas, Salgado, Cannavaro, Metzelder, Sergio Ramos, Drenthe, Gago, Guti, Van der Vaart, Raul and Higuaín.
En el banquillo estarían Dudek, Saviola, Javi García, Sneijder y los cuatro canteranos Chema Anton, Alberto Bueno, Agus and Palanca.
Barcelona: Valdes, Pinto, Jorquera, Alves, Caceres, Puyol, Marquez, Pique, Abidal, Sylvinho, Toure, Keita, Busquets, Xavi, Gudjohnsen, Victor Sanchez, Pedro, Hleb, Bojan, Etoo, Henry and Messi. Thats the full squad. I expect him to disguard Victor, Pinto, Pedro and Sylvinho to cut the squad down to 18.
Confirmed lineup is as follows: Valdes, Alves, Marquez, Puyol, Abidal, Xavi, Toure, Gudjohnsen, Messi, Henry, Etoo.

i am gonna have to call my insurance in. i threw the remote at ramos and it went through the screen. shit, man. this is turning out to be a bad bad year.
there were some positives though. we are somewhat resurgent. completely held off farca for 85 mins. monopolising possesion doesn’t matter until or unless you score. and for our makeshift defense to hold up that well against the current barca juggernaut is quite something. but the two lapses that led to goals were bad. so the defense needs a lot of work still.
and we showed some phenomenal grit and determination.lost but it was no easy win for barca. no goleada. the clouds are looking dark but there are some silver linings too. and judging by his past , juande is quite good in knockout games. rather like rafa benitez over at the scousers.
so , it ain’t over till its over. and all it needs for barca to stutter is messi’s seasonal breakdown.and it will take some phenomenal effort from us too but it can be done. HALA MADRID.

Actually a very entertaining game for both sides and a fair result…for those of you who said that Barca would outright murder us, well it really shows how records do not matter when it comes to the Clasico. Congrats to the Barca fans, and I’m actually pretty happy with our performance as a Madrid fan. The best team won, but we put up a lot more of a fight than most predicted. If we play with resilience for the next two weekends against the next two tough opponents, we’ll still be in good shape to qualify for the CL next year (which should be the immediate goal as the league title is pretty much out of reach at this point, as it should be with a team of Barca’s quality). Hala Madrid all, keep the faith, and congrats to the Barca fans who’ve been (for the most part) great contributors to the conversation on the blogs.

Oh well guys, I think our boys played a really good match, it took a deflection in the 83rd min for them to get a goal, and the second, well, it was a counterattack in stoppage time, I think it was a great showing for us, even though we lost the game
Just some quick thoughts…
1. Drenthe is worthless, any chane we have dies with him, he only had the pass to sneijder for wesley’s shot, and the one on one with Valdes, I think that was the turning point of the game, HE IS WORTHLESS
2. Kudos to everybody, but Guti, VDV (did he even touch the ball), and Drenthe, the rest played very well, AND PALANCA, WOW, HE SHOULD GET MORE MINUTES BASED ON HIS PERFORMANCE!!!!
3. I truly believe we’re gonna have a MONSTER 2nd half of the season, it might not be enough to catch FArza, but still, this match gave me hope for the rest of the season
4. Hopefully this is the match Iker need to turn his season around, and I don’t know about you guys, but I TRULY BELIEVE he shouls be our next captain…
Take care everybody, Steve, I’m sorry I couldn’t make it to the pub, hopefully you read my post where I told you I was sick
HALA MADRID

Great game Madridistas. Defensive but necessary. You guys are good sports.

Props when they’re due. Your boys played like defending champions should. In the face of all the injuries and suspensions, to put up a game like that at the Camp Nou is truly commendable. Some negative but very sound and effective tactical football there. If Drenthe was not a complete buffoon, this game might have ended differently.
Look at the bright side. Although La Liga is out of reach barring an injury plague similar to yours striking Barca, you guys are off to a great start in getting back into shape for Europe. A gritty game like that is exactly what you need to get past the Octavos de Finales. San Iker is apparently back. I hope to see you guys in the Semis or Final of the CL. Good game and good luck in the CL until you meet us.

BTW, I used to LOVE Gago when he was at Boca (my other team) and for all of you who’ve criticized him, he did a GREAT job marking Xavi AND always ready to help Ramos out with Messi today and I would argue has been your most consistent improving player this season. Remember his age… he can still be the next Hierro yet.
Where did Palanca come from??? La Cantera? Really?>> No WAY!?!?!?! Nice debut for the youngster (although might have been legendary if he had scored). Must be good for you guys to know that you still have a cantera.

Congrats to you guys for defending so well even though your team has a bunch of injuries. It was a close one!

fuuuck ye Barca won…real tried so hard jus to let 2 goals in at the final minutes …we all knew barca would win they dominated and knew how to play the ball i jumped and screamed wen i saw the first goal go in spilling my drink on the floor who cares stains come out

I forgot about Garcia in the game! Juande’s apparently starting the youth movement. I would have not been surprised by a “bueno” Bueno debut (hes fairly hyped) and Garcia has been serviceable but Palanca coming out of nowhere and playing good was surprising. Lets see if you guys rescue Pareja too.

Hector word is parejo is one of those ” new signings” calderon promised meaning they’ll call him back from loan this winter at least that is what As are saying so basically we’ll have 10 players coming throught the youth rank playing for us this year

It appears i disagree with everyone on Drenthe. I thought he did really well. Ok, he’s not a great finisher. He’s not even a good finisher, but remember, he’s a converted leftback! When was the last time you saw Roberto Carlos hit the side of a barn with his kicks?
Does anyone even doubt how Drenthe’s pace caused problems for Barca? He hardly had any chance to cross the ball, and the best chance he did resulted in a deadly Sneijder shot on target (though this of course is more a result of Sneijder’s ridiculous ability than anything else).
I don’t think you can blame anyone for not being someone else, especially considering that Robben wasn’t even available for selection. No one else on the team would’ve even gotten the 1 on 1 that Drenthe did, that was purely because of his speed.
He defended super well, and one time tracked all the way back to the other side of the pitch against Henry. What a star. He was even open on the left when Higuain dribbled into 4 defenders and fell over. I think he’s got a ton of potential that he’s only just beginning to discover.
