Well De la Red is NOW a Real Madrid player, it wasnt til July 1st that he returned to Madrid. The game he played against Greece was very good though, he looked a little nervous for awhile but he settled down and provided a good showcase of his talents. I would give him a 7 for that game, but not making an appearance after that is no good. But considering the strength of the squad, the guy with only one full year of La Liga under his belt shouldnt expect to much.

As for Ronaldo, it looks like he is going to stay in Madrid, the English press has quelled their rumor mill on him because he is in Sardinia with his sexy girlfriend, and all reports point to him being in Manchester for preseason. I think that with the Robinho rumors picking up pace due to his big-headed agent, that has become more of a priority.

Yes - winning is beautiful isn't it? It's important that Spain won. I'm a neutral who has celebrated the play of Arsenal for a few seasons now but would like them to win a trophy soon so that people can see that teams can succeed with good football. Btw - you're spot on about Holland and Croatia playing equally good football. I thought Croatia deserved better given the quality of their play.

What's happening with de la Red? As far as I know he's still under contract to Real - does this mean he gets a grade for his one game (plus goal)? ;)

Thanks for doing the column. Can't say I'm too excited to see Robben injured again. Now let's get on with the excitement of mindlessly watching Madrid blindly pursue the finest hair-geller in the world while other teams pick away at our underappreciated roster. Shear Genius!

I would give Iker a 10, but he kinda messed up the Ibra goal, although it was pretty close to a save. But as you said, no one is perfect, and a 9 is near perfect which is what he was, but when you think about it, he didnt have a whole lot to do compared to the firestorm he sees at Madrid, the Spanish defense was very good.

I agree with most of your grades, but would certainly give Our Saint Iker a 10. I realize no one is perfect, but he surely made all Madridistas and certainly all Spaniards proud.
I think Wesley and Ruud played some spectacular futbol, so I think an 8 is accurate for Wes, I would have also give Ruud and 8 as well (I am kind of biased, he is my favorite on Real Madrid). I wanted to see the Dutch go further. I think Spain vs Holland would have been an awesome match.
I pretty much agree with the rest of the scores. I know I am not the only one who can't wait for La Liga to begin again!
