Nice round-up Corey - I note that you managed to turn your 'Like' column for Michel Salgado (whom I have detested for at least three seasons now) into a commeny about your granny's nurding home! 'nuff said

I like the format, actually - you could translate the 2-line analysis into some sort of rating and then maintain a ranking table throughout the season

Right on everybody for the kind words, I appreciate it. Thanks for including me in the article as well, Corey; that's very generous of you. I was pretty pissed off after watching the match last night, and felt like I had to reach out to other Real fans to express my discontent at the entire performance. I'm always happy to contribute my thoughts, as everybody else should be around here (unless you bash the mods, one instance last season was pretty stupid). So, Corey and Steve, if you need a meaningless Copa match off or something during the season, I don't miss a game thanks to GolTV and TiVo.

Hopefully we can keep this thing growing as I've seen old names stick around (Gonzalo, john, estoverao come to mind) and many new ones join us as well. It's just good to have a place where English-speaking Real fans can share ideas and thoughts. I just got into the Offside last summer and don't miss many days without checking it. So all you newbies (and vets for that matter): keep posting whatever comments you might have, it makes this community more enjoyable for all of us. I just didn't see a review up last night and thought the rest of you might want something to talk about...

I'll be in Canada on a fishing trip next week, but hopefully the whites can pull off a much more solid all-around performance in the return leg. I hope to see good news when I cross the border into American cell phone reception again. Hala Madrid all.

They played good offsides on Villa, but you can't trust offsides for 90 mins. It makes sense when you're defending higher up. But even during set pieces and quick breaks, nobody wanted to go near him.

I don't really care if we win the supercopa or not. But the performance left a lot to be desired. It was bad. They still can't string together more than 3 passes. It was very very shabby. Raul and Ruud are two slow coaches, but atleast Ruud still has the sharpness. I hope it's not the sign of things to come with respect to Raul. We still need a striker who can tire the Central defenders.
Both our goals were two instances of individual brilliance.

And De la Red was a big big disappointment. Too often he gave away the ball and had very little to offer both offensively (I remember only 3 good passes) and defensively. I saw several Getafe matches last season, and he was much much better than this. Both De la Red and Diarra have terrible ball retention capabilities. What was that from Diarra? I hope it was just an off-day.

And part of the blame for Garcia's performance should go to Heinze too. Being the most experienced, he should have organised the defence. Too often he looked confused. The most worrying thing about defending villa was they didn't have any plan! That is Schuster's job. Heinze and Garcia were eager to pass on the responsibility to the other. You should watch the replay of the second goal. Heinze is actually close to Villa, but just before the cross comes in, he goes to the middle to cover the middle leaving him unmarked and of course Garcia is just ball watching.

Torres is scared to make forward passes. When he comes forward, he either passes it to the central midfielder or the defender to his right.

Robinho's performace was depressing, VDV looked a little overwhelmed except for his superb free kick delivery and Salgado and Raul stunk up the place as usual. Robben, Heinze and Diarra(yes Diarra)were our best players yesterday. Ruud gets props for his marksmanship as well.

thanks for the reviews Corey and James! I especially like what u have done Corey with the likes and dislikes. I never watched the game but been reading up the different reviews on other sites and come up with one conclusion. That we played really badly and i think Schuster got his tactics all wrong. I dont want to criticise any players coz i never saw the game. But i sort of feel bad for Javi Garcia. He hasn't played in midfield in any of the hands thus far and now that Metz being back i really thought he would get a chance to play in his preferred role. He really has a mean foot and keen eye for long range shots and playing at the back we not gonna see the best of him. I know he can play at the back but he needs someone to guide him and Heinze is not that guy. When torres was at his best it was coz of the guidance of cannavaro. Thats all im gonna say! Hope we win next week. :)
