Florentino Announces Running Mates As Another Candidate Drops Out

By: Corey | May 28th, 2009

The elections for president of Real Madrid have taken yet another twist as the remaining candidate opposing Florentino Perez dropped out due to financial concerns. This of course leaves little time for any other candidate to challenge Perez as the deadline for applicants is only a few day away. And given the nature of these elections, it would take months of planning, palm greasing and boisterous bragging of ones signings to be fully prepared for the election.

Today it was announced that Eduardo Garcia has withdrawn from the election because he could not raise the money needed to stand in the election. Here is his official announcement translated:

I hereby want to communicate separation with the OID before the activities and commentaries spilled against Real Madrid and want to communicate that the demands interposed in my name finally were retired in the morning of Wednesday, after communicating it personal lawyer (Jose Maria Waiter) before the reluctance of the lawyer of OID (Javier Gallego).

So he did not have the capital, and challenging the rule with legal action was not going to go anywhere either. He was never a serious contender to be honest, so I was not surprised to see him drop out. It paves the way for Florentino to take control now, which seemed a forgone conclusion as soon as Ramon Calderon resigned. Florentino has thus confirmed many of his running mates, who are mostly carry over board members and other officials that are still at the club from his time in charge anyways. The list below:

It is still unknown whether or not Jorge Valdano, Zinedine Zidane, Emilio Butragueno or the lot will return in the technical roles, as most of the names above are board members. But Perez will probably make that more clear once he is officially declared the winner of the election as he stands unopposed.

Florentino Perez has just won the election by default. Hooray? I dont know, it seems a little strange to have him back in charge after such a disastrous exit. He may restore the glory of the club, but at what price? And where will our long term future be if he is only concerned with signing stars to win the Champions League every other year? Florentino Perez will be our next president whether we like it or not, so your thoughts on Galatico’s Dos?

Doesn’t make any difference how many superstars are signed – we’ll never be a worthy team if we don’t establish stability, tranquility in the boraddroom and our respect from the rest of the footballing world again.

Board memebers, directors of sport, presidents who seek the limelight and power and press coverage can go stick it up thier jacksie :)

Perez is just in it for himself and just loves the prestige and attention, he will always consider himself ahead of the things that matter.

We need a coach who can boos the boss, be the frontman for Real Madrid, pick the signings, give the team identity. If Perez manages to bring someone like that to the club and allows him to do the job, then I’ll back off. ’till then I’ll remain a complete skeptic of Perez.

    ….still, he’s better than Calderon :P

first and greatest priority is getting la decima at the bernabeu. absolutely absolutely need it at the bernabeu. it would be unbearable if the cules get it in our home. but yeah, apart from that some long term planning would be nice. i still think that hiring a psychic to channel santiago bernabeu would be the best thing to do but in the meantime, florentino will do.

the technical staff is gonna be important.if he brings an all madridista team onboard,it will be great.

lol my eyes… my grey eyes…

lol a madrid lol a madrid

    and lol @ realrock

Look at the shape his team is in. It is a disaster. We don’t even know who the president will be, and he thinks the first priority is… the champions league???? lol

facts r facts r facts. madrid are going down the drain, gone are the glory days where ronaldo’s, zidane’s, figo’s, would scamper to sign for madrid. Each and every star they attempt to sign they will fail.

The whole world laughts at the embarassing management at Madrid. They beg, and beg, and beg for Ronaldo to come. And after Ronaldo says he no longer wants to join them, they insist they were never after him.

    What a joke..

    What a jokeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Wha a joke this merengue club is.

Anyone else beginning to wonder if this Paulie character is learning impaired? I mean, he clings to the exact same idea, parroting it continually, almost word for word, regardless of the context. And what the hell is up with his ‘grey’ eyes? Maybe something happened to him. Maybe he’s a robot programmed by a cule with limited technological skills.

And how, exactly, to eyes laugh out loud? Ah, the mystery.

I’m willing to bite. If Perez does indeed take over as president on Monday, I am willing to bet money, seriously Paulie Boy, real money that Madrid will be able to sign at least ONE star player.

Your insistence that Madrid’s glory days are over because of a temporary dip in form is patently laughable. You probably haven’t noticed the 30-year gap we had between European Cup 6 and 7, and yet we won it 3 times since 1998. Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Anyway, since you claim that EACH and EVERY star we try to sign will say no, all we have to do is sign one and I’ve won the bet, right? Let’s define star player as the best player on their team – ie. Ronaldo, Kaka, Ribery, Villa, etc.

Anyone else want in on this bet? Easy money, i say.

John- You know what? You are not very funny. So if I say the same thing that makes me learning impaired??

Your ignorance is baffling. Many Europeans have grey eyes, but I would not expect you to know that, your ignorance.

“And how, exactly, to eyes laugh out loud? Ah, the mystery.”

    ROOOOOFL

Whoever said my eyes are laughing? When someone says “my eyes, my eyes” it doesnt mean the eyes are laughing, u just are too ignorant to undesrtand what it means. Your excused if english is not ur first language. If it is however, then you must be some 9 year old at most.

Steve, when I said they will fail in buying stars I am simply going by the pattern over the last 2 years, in which everyone has rejected them. Considering the money you have, I won’t take the bet because they are likely to sign 1 star. But 1 and only 1 star. I will take the bet if it is two stars or more.
