Friendly Wrap-Up and Super Cup Preview
By: Corey | August 9th, 2007 Real Madrid 1-0 Belenenses
Robinhoooo Goalllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllazo!!!
Yeah so thats how it went down pretty much, Robinho scored in the 89th, although it had been reported that Raul scored by a few media outlets. I see the likeliness, honest mistake guys. Since there are no video clips on dailymotion, and I was drinking beer and watching the Bourne Ultimatum last night (awesome movie, I highly recommend it) I can only go on match wrap ups. Madrid played some slick football at times, passing it around with ease and showing some of Schusters pretty football, or as John coined yesterday “Fancy Football”.
Balboa had a chance early on but spurned it, to bad he needs to make waves this year. Guti was sharp, Saviola was not though which is not a good sign. Pepe looked to have gotten injured also but recovered.
The second hald so Soldado introduced to partner with Raul, and exciting moment for me cause I have high hope for the Soldier. Think about it, its Spanish. Anyways, Julio Batista came on for Balboa and opened things up, and Robinho scored at the death to win it for Real. Not a dominating performance, but they got the job done with some flashes of brilliance, a work in progress if you will. I for one am happy, because losing does a team confidence no good.
Alright, next they take on Deportivo today, Thursday for the trophy. Wish them luck.
Here were the lineups:
1.- Real Madrid: Casillas; Ramos, Pepe, Cannavaro, Torres, Balboa (Baptista, 68’), Guti, Diarra, Robinho, Saviola (Soldado, 45’) y Raúl.
0.- Os Belenenses:Marco Gonçalves, Rodrigo Alvim, Rubén Amorin, Gabriel Gómez (Joao Paulo Oliveira, 68’), Silas (Moura, 45’), José Pedro, Rolando, Mendonça (Rafael Bastos, 62’, (Amaral, 72’), Roncatto, Cándido Costas, Devic.
Goles:
1-0,min.89, Robinho
If your Spanish is rusty dont worry so is mine. Nothing important in their, just some stuff about Ramon Calderon. Alright game is wrapped up, on to the Super! Cup.
Sevilla of course was not a surprise package last year, they have been getting better for 5 years now. But they dont look like falling away to much this year, so this match will be tough, Sevilla want trophies. Just ask Barca, they showed them a clean pair of heels last year in the Euro Super Cup, which Sevilla is also participating in again this year. Anyways, here is some team news for all you eager beavers.
Sevilla:
Dani Alves has recovered from a minor knee injury but fellow defenders Javi Navarro and Julien Escude are almost certain to be absent.
New loan signing Khalid Boulahrouz is also undergoing tests on a muscle strain and is a doubt along with Mali striker Frederic Kanoute.
Sevilla’s most important game is against AEK Athens, which is coming up and I bet they wont risk any players against Real.
Real Madrid:
Chris Metzelder and last season’s top scorer Ruud van Nistelrooy are injury doubts while Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain is out with a torn thigh muscle.
Look for a similar starting lineup to yesterday and/or todays friendly line up. Schuster had this to say “‘The team’s progressing. We are improving in some areas although there is still work to do,” This is a direct quote about yesterdays match “Scuster said after his side’s unconvincing 1-0 win over Portuguese side Belenenses on Wednesday.
‘We are trying to bring new players that will help us improve, but we still have time before the season starts”
Those new players. Oh you know, Drenthe, Kallstrom, Robben, Dani Alves, RvV, Lucho, and Ballack. Oh and some guy named Rickie Kaka, what a clown, am i right?
I predict that Real wins the cup, but it will be close. Sevilla just has to much going on right now, and this is surely secondary to getting into the CL group stage.
Some transfer gossip:
As soon as i learn to embed videos, evertime I post transfer gossip Marvin Gaye’s ‘Heard it Through the Grape Vine’ will be playing for you to enjoy. On with it:
-Drenthe is a done deal according to Marca. Yippy skippy comes to mind. Anyways, heres a link to the only English report I could find on this
- Ronaldo had another dig at us, this time regardin the Puma. He wants his Brazilian compat to join him at Milan. It makes sense, Inter is the Argentine NT so Milan can be the Brazilian NT. I really dont care anymore Chubs, you play for Milan now, succle from Uncle Festers teet until you retire. Since i was on goal.com i will reference you there
- Wesley Sneijder is going to resist Real Madrid overtures. Shocking, cause I am pretty sure we dont care. Same with Samir Nasri, well that is also not a shocker, but unlike Wesley, we want Nasri bad, it gives me pains in sensitive areas I want him so bad. Next year though folks, stay patient, and stay classy.
- Lets keep the Anchorman stuff rolling ehh? Stuttgart ace Mario Gomez admits he’d like to play in Spain.
The Germany international has a Spanish family background and said: “Clearly, I would like to one day play in Spain. Barcelona? Maybe, but Real Madrid are also a great club.”
“Barcelona are my favourite team. But my Dad is from Madrid and my cousins from Granada.”
Asked why he is playing for Germany and not Spain, Gomez added: “Nobody called me. My grandfather and my Dad are Spanish, but I was not born there.”
Dont act like your not impressed. im gonna walk this one off, cause its the pleats in the pants, ill have to take these back to the pants store…
- Oscar Minambres has left for Hercules of La Segunda. Does he even have legs any more, i thought they cut them off cause he hurt them so much?
- Hannover left winger Szabolcs Huszti is attracting interest from Schuster. Huszti-whats it? Dont know him. In related news, Schuster has been gagged, literally, about speaking of transfer targets. You hired the guy, you know he doesnt keep secrets, deal.
- Cicnho ultimatum from Roma. I do not want to speak of him, go to the Roma Offside for more info, Chris knows thats good: http://www.transfermarketweb.com/?action=read&idsel=1917
- Robben could sign today, just like Drenthe. Ill believe it when i see it with my own two beuatiful blues, those deep, passionate seas of intrigue and mystery.
-The get rid of Cassano campaign may draw to a close soon. Sampdoria are actually trying to get him. Take it Pedja, even the 1 mill or so would cover a whole years worth a grease for your hair.
Here is a video of the top 10 goals of all time for La Real.

Im gonna do an extensive run down of the squad today, barring me actually doing any work at work, it should be up today.

Oh Corey, this is the fun of YouTube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=uvYzAnkjhMY
Not much of a golazo, really. And also, I can understand reporting either one as the goalscorer after having watched it.

I see Madrid are still up to their old tricks of scoring in the last minute of every game. Who knew Os Belenenses were such a tough team?

“Goalllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllazo!!!” ?!
I didn’t think it would be possible, but you’re worse than MARCA!

Hey, the comment I posted earlier never showed up…What the hell.

Belenenses are a good team, I believe the Portugal blog writer picked them to break the top 3. Which means we played a better team then Deportivo did.

Okay, okay. You pretty much have to call that an own-goal. Whatever, we win. And if weren’t for the fact that Ruud is still missing, I really liked the starting line-up. And atleti, um, did you notice your team’s final score against Celta de Vigo, who, um, got relegated last season? Sooo… um.

Yeah, John, but if you read my blog entry I didn’t make a big deal out of it. It’s meaningless. Disappointing not to score a goal, but que sera sera.

I know it’s meaningless, and you didn’t have Forlan, and we didn’t have old man Nistelrooy. I was just a little sore that our only goal (friendly fixture or not) should not have been a goal, so when a rojiblanco pipped up, I couldn’t help but take a shot. I hope both teams are sorted out by the 26th, because then, it’s on!

I was unaware that Golazo would be such a deal. I saw the goal, everything but the shot was pretty. I give it a 7 just because of Robinho’s movement with the ball, like a man possesed.
Seeing as how Atletico barely made it into the UEFA Crap I think you need to reserve your judgement about our pre-season preperations atleti.

You’re the one with the false advertising, Corey: “Goalllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllazo!!!”
These are golazos in my book:

Real have the advantage for the Supercopa based on the fact they just played today and are better off in the injury department.
Pre-season to me is meaningless. So Celta drew Atleti in the pre-season. Liverpool also lost to Portsmouth this off-season 3-1 and no one really cared.
It only matters when the real season begins.
