Getafe Up Next
By: Corey | November 28th, 2008
Real travel cross-town to the Alfonso Perez to take on rival Getafe in the second Madrid derbi of the season this Saturday. Matchday 13 of the season will give Real a chance to pull level with Barca with a win, if only for two hours until Barca and Sevilla do battle. There is a great shance Sevilla take a point of the Cules, so we need a win here to keep the race tight, especially with the big one coming up in December.
Real Madrid News:
Schuster has been able to call up 17 players for the match against Getafe. Now 17 seems like a good amount, but when you scroll down a bit and see the injury report you know its an inflated number. We should see an almost identical lineup to the one that one in Minsk a few days ago, with the only change being Marcelo coming in for the injured Heinze, or Torres making way for Salgado, which I highly doubt.
Goalkeepers
Casillas, Dudek
Defenders
Salgado, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo, Metzelder, Torres
Midfielders
Sneijder, Guti, Drenthe, Gago, Javi García, Van der Vaart
Forwards
Raúl, Saviola, Bueno
Injury Report:
De la Red: Severe blackout. Awaiting further tests.
Robben: Grade II right soleus tear. Training with squad.
Cannavaro: Strained adductor muscle. Training with squad.
Heinze: Left fascia injury.
Diarra: Grade I left femoral biceps strain. Treatment: Medical, physiotherapy, gym & field work.
Van Nistelrooy: Partially torn right meniscus and cartilage damage. Treatment: Surgery (12 November). Treatment: Gym work.
Higuaín: Sprained left ankle. Treatment: Medical, physiotherapy, gym & field work.
A pretty full training room as you can see. I do not know when De la Red will be able to return to playing, my guess is that something may be very wrong with him if it has taken this long, but my hope is that he is fine and that the tests he is waiting on will clear him to play. Ruud is recovering from surgery still, while Diarra and Heinze face extended periods out. Higuain, Cannavaro and Robben were suppose to be fit for this match, but all will be kept home as we cannot play with fire any longer on the injury front.
So without further ado, here is the lineup for the Getafe game:
————-Casillas————-
Torres—Ramos—Pepe—Marcelo
Guti—Gago—Sneijder—Drenthe
——–Saviola—–Raul———
We will see more of the same stuff we saw against BATE, with high pressure being applied when on the defensive in order to keep the opposition as far away from our goal as possible. You will also see Gago dropping deeper then he usually does as he look to shore up the hole between the midfield and the defence, something that we have never really managed for a few years now. Torres probably wont be encouraged to attack much, but Marcelo will move forward to support Drenthe from time to time, and the two can swap places if need be which is pretty interesting on paper atleast.
Sneijder and Guti need to communicate much better. Two playmakers in one team never really works out, so Guti needs to sit deeper when Sneijder moves forward and vice versa. The biggest problem is that both will move forward leaving Gago for dead, and also without much of an outlet if he does win the ball back. More interchange between the strikers and midfield needs to occur as well, as they are to stiff in turning their back to goal and hoping for a pass to feet to play off of. Diagnol runs across the line of defense will help, while Raul and Sneijder need to play some give and go’s to pull one of the center backs out of position. Drenthe will provide the width, so lets hope he can trouble Contra a bit and get decent balls into the box.
Schuster Presser:
How special is this match to you being that you’re returning to your old stomping ground?
In one way it doesn’t matter because time takes its course, but it will be nice to see the people who I worked and had a good time with. I am still friends with many people, but those relationships take a back seat for 90 minutes. Both teams need to win.
What are your thoughts on how Getafe are playing?
I am a little surprised. I think they played well in Barcelona. Playing open football works well for them, and they were in trouble against Sevilla, Valencia and Osasuna when they couldn’t play their style. It will be the same with us. We’re a team that they should do well against, too.
Víctor Muñoz thinks Real Madrid play ugly football. Do you share that opinion?
I don’t know. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and mine is different than everyone’s, which is logical since I’m the coach.
Ramón Calderón said there would be two signings over winter. How does that make you feel?
I don’t know who they will be because you don’t open Christmas presents early.
Is everything a little more relaxed having won the last two matches?
The best medicine in football is winning. I like how we won against Huelva and Borisov. They weren’t spectacular victories, but a lot of work went into them. We’ve done some things that have brought some stability. We pressure the opponent farther from our goal and we brought our lines closer together, both of which earned us victories. We are returning to where we were before.
Do you think you can keep the the shutout streak alive despite having a banged up defense?
We’ve proven that it’s not a problem of just one line in our system. It’s a general matter. The team pressured in a more advanced position the other day, was more aggressive and supported the strikers. all of which facilitated the defense’s work. The only thing we are still missing are some brilliant saves by Iker, and then we’ll be where we were before, will concede fewer goals and maintain a clean sheet. Every shot was almost always a goal. Lately they haven’t been.
Are Cannavaro and Robben fot for Getafe?
They have different injuries. Fabio is still a little bothered by his injury and won’t play. We are pleased with Robben’s progress, but he still hasn’t been given the green light by the doctors. If all goes as planned, he’ll be back next week for our important stretch of matches. He is upbeat and would play if he could, but we have to be cautious and preferred not to include him.
Would you have preferred that the players not be offered the bonus?
Based on my experience as a player and coach, I have realized that bonuses don’t motivate players that much. That’s not the problem. We have returned to the fundamentals, which is why we are winning.
Yesterday Ramón Calderón said you will be in charge of Real Madrid’s project. Does that make you any calmer after the last couple of week?
He has always told me that, including two weeks ago. I have never seen him doubt me. We spoke about the situation and left everything in the open. I am no surprised. It confirms the confidence he has in me and I appreciate it.
The crisis is over and the match against Barcelona draws near with your team only one win behind.
I am not bothered by what happened. I know how I must do things. I was here as a player and I am familiar with Real Madrid. There are tremendous demands. What happened is quite common. It went from history in the making to crisis in one day. It will happen every year and you have to know how to handle it, not get distracted and have faith in your work.
Schuster seems pretty confident, and I do too. Getafe play well at home, and they played Barca like most teams dont at the Nou Camp, with some tidy, open play. They will do the same against us, coming at us whenever they can to force errors from our backline. Gago will have to continue his rich vein of form to watch the Getafe striker, as he drops deep for every ball he gets, while Granero and Soldado are allowed to play in this match so we will have to be aware of them. Manu has a thigh strain and he will mostl likely miss out, while Guerron, Signorino and Ustari are all out definately.
Getafe will use the Schuster-esque Eugene Polanski as the clean up man alongside Casquero, with Albin and Granero out wide for some creativity. The backline is Cata Diaz and Mario being beasts. Two of the better center backs in La Liga this year, they will be a tough nut to crack, but Contra does go forward at un-oppurtune times so there is a whole, and if we had a right sided midfielder then Lucas Licht would be there for the taking with little cover from Albin. It wont be easy to get anything past Pato, so I am expecting this match to be a 1-0 with for Los Blancos. I can see a draw, but I remain optimistic because we can pull closer to Barca as they have a tough test against Sevilla (we get them the following week). Game is at 2pm eastern time, HALA MADRID!!!!

Our problem is mental because we definitly aren’t lacking talent maybe every single one of our players should go throught therapy like sneijder did when he wasn’t playing well last season ……………….aaaah I don’t know

As for casillas , im starting to feel like he feels like he has nothing else to prove since everybody is hailing him as the best GK there is , and if that’s the case he needs to be benched I love iker but I love real madrid way more

I’m not going to naner naner but I will be honest. I’m not going to mention the fact that there was an uncalled penalty over Soldado. Or an uncalled foul by Pepe over Ulche thy cost a goal for Getafe and that could have been a red card for Pepe. Well I guess I just did mention it but what is happenning to Madeid is what happens all to often in Great teams that have a couple of successful seasons, to wit, conplecancy. By the way the refs at the Barça game did you a big favor with the red againts Fabiano as he will not play againts you. In all honesty what you need is a better coach who has the balls to light a fire under “your” black sheeps and too not take any crap from your front office. Like Capello, oh wait yeah that’s right. But seriously though Schuster just can’t do it.
Sevilla 0-3 Barça. Just Incase you didn’t watch the game. See y’all at the Derbi/clasico.

barca won’t equal last year’s historical humiliation in the clasico, a lot of flair but no cojones when it comes to a fight.

well currently we have 14 fit players. wesley’s injury looked serious and pepe(surprise , surprise) has picked up another one too. torres tambien.
and after getafe , the only ones who can even come near the white shirt are gago , drenthe and our very own , michel salgado. iker has gone from bad to worse. all that praise must have gone to his head. i like the guy and he is a symbol but if you are not performing you should be benched.the only positive i can hope for is that bernadine will give some youngsters a chance and they will come good.

And Real lacks both flair and cojones. How funny 9 champs always resorting to the past instead of acknowledging the present. At least though you recognize that Barça will win. The only way that you won be humiliated is if you park the bus. Which at this point I don’t doubt. Because if u come out to play, I asure you will be humiliated. Just like next week at the bernabeu.

At this point we can forgetting about adding any silverware. We’ll have to focus on finishing in the top three and making the UCL.
——-
The up coming games an’t going to get any easier, and it’s herd to look into the next few matches and say were going to come out victorious in any of our fixtures. Will Schuster retain his job? I don’t know, he may or it may be the end or the road for him.

tomatito…no need to resort to the past, that’s simply your insecurity when you read my nicname ; ) Real Madrid have always been a team of cojones, flair at times but the former is what defines us. BArca has flair nowadays, especially with the first self proclaimed homosexual coach in their lockerroom.
Sometimes Real is in better shape, other times its the cules…but the palmarés always stays the same, you just can’t reach us but you can always be proud to be the team that’s our shadow. And who spoke about the past…..we’ve won the last couple leagues, its about time barca does the least!

I like how a barca fan comes in and says something logical about madrid’s decline (complacency) and then his team is insulted because he is a rival fan….talk about intelligent discussion
This whole mess of a season could have been avoided if the higher ups didnt let go of a top quality winger while salivating over an overrated one.
Madrid only has one proper winger now and getting injured alot is that fool’s favourite hobby. Drenthe is a wingback who is used as a left winger but in all honesty, Marcelo is a much better dribbler and attacker.
You cant play a 4-3-3 with only one winger and two strikers up front. Playing with only one winger makes the team too one-dimensional.
Watch the game again, the first two goals getafe scored, they intelligently capitalized on real’s weakness.
First one attacking down the left wing with licht and gavillan ganging up torres all alone. Ramos tried to move to the byline for support but gavillan slipped past him. Pepe and Marcelo had granero and saldado held in check in front of goal but forgot about the third man crashing into the box. That was albin who scored.
Unlike torres, Salgado ran up the wing to contribute to the attack. However when Gago lost the ball and getafe started the counter, he was caught way up in the opponent’s half allowing Albin tons of room to run down the wing and score.
I wont tell you what team I support, or else you will rip on them too

9 Chaps. Hey I was reffering to your previous comment about last years 4-1 beat down. With the refs help. Not your moniker. Funny how you talk about homosexuality beacsuse you have no responses of an atheletic or professional nature. It’s ok though. Even with all those chaps, only makes your history great I won’t deny that. As the hardest of cules I’ll say it, you have the best history, tittle wise that is. But that doesn’t change the present. A saber que tu equipo no vale la pena. Which will only linhubit growth and a logical intelligent conversation thy doesn’t resort to petty name calling.

tomato you’re a bandwagonner you’re prolly one of those guys who started rooting for barcelona after 2006 and stuff , i know that because anybody that has been watching spanish footy for longer than the last five years knows that real madrid = winning WITH STYLE ( FLAIR ) if it wasnt for the past 3 years or so ( and capello his first spell at madrid not the recent one ) this club has always i mean always had BOTH FLAIR AND COJONES at madrid we dont just care about WINNING we like doin it in style also( pretty football with a lot of goals scored ) and that has been the case since the club’s birth if i were you i’d do some research before posting bullshit ass posts here

PS - we had a lot of flair when we whooped your ass at the bernabeu last year after your players applauded ours onto the pitch . no matter what barcelona do they will ALWAYS be second best in spain and in europe ? let’s not even get there

Last year Barca had problems and we were strong, this year it’s reversed - let’s just leave it there shall we?
Barca are playing great football and no one can deny it - they are a great team indeed and we should be doing better.
Also, don’t bother to even reply to pricks who only come onto this forum just to start a sad little fight - leave it.We need to sort out our off the pitch problems becsaue they are becoming very much a part of our ‘on the pitch problems’.
I’m not in favour of sacking the coach - but let’s face it he has sealed his fate by now I think.
Let’s also not overreact over this game - losing this does not mean we won’t win _anything_. I think Shuster did the right things in the game, made bold and risky subs, threw poeple forward, which meant we were even weaker at the back.
That said, it was a terible performance (not quite as bad as the refs performance, which is possibly the most pro-Madrid refing i have ever seen - I think Getafe missed out on a few penalty decisions and at least 2 of our boys should have been sent off on yellows).Things need to change - the shame is that I think it’s the president and director of football that need to take the rap for the problems - not only the coach.

Let’s also hope Madrid can raise a decent performance against Barca, because on current form we are going to get beaten badly. If we do lose I suggest we lose graciously knowing that things change - and don’t take any notice of a few knobends who come on the forum just to rub it in.

Marca (not Sport, not EMD) gave the ref 0 out of 10 and decried his pro-Madrid bias, which pretty much confirms Evo’s view of his performance.

I think Madrid will do a big mistake if they tried to solve the squad problem in January, I know this is not a popular opinion, but may be being a Barcelona fan make it easier for me to see it with no emotional stress that”NO WE NEED TO SORT THINGS UP RIGHT NOW!”
I think January signing will not have the desired impact, aside of sending a message to the current squad that they are disappointing, because when I scan the options available I see:1)CL tied players, and that doesn’t only mean they will not be useful for RM in CL but it means their teams don’t consider them vital to keep, so if a player is not good for his team how will he be good for RM? those who play for less attractive teams/leagues? How can u guarantee they will click in La liga? specially in a week or too, considering RM urgent calls.
2) Players with good potentials but will need their time to adapt, which mean they will not be useful before next season anyway. i think buying a player on the wing now-for example- will make the team miss some better options in the summer, thats if we wana talk about efficient management, or else, crazy spending is not my field.
3) Some unproven options on highest level -mainly from south America clubs- and I am not sure if I am the only one who feel players in south America has to come first to a middle table team to adapt and mature then move to Barcelona OR RM, both teams burned lot of talents already getting them directly to the demanding environment and extreme pressure of the biggest two teams in Spain. buying a player from Brazil now, with all the pressure and demands and crises in madris at the moment may crush him and damage his career, meaning, will not be helpful for RM anyway.
I will stick to what I said before, I believe RM has the team to guarantee a CL position for next year, and the best thing for that club this season is to limit ambitions which will release the pressure of the players shoulders, both physical pressure and mental pressure, with some Tactical creativity they can do it, then reengineer the team in the summer transfer period. this team can perform good enough to achieve that objective:
Torres, Canavaro - pepe, Hienze
Ramos(yes RW), Snieder, Gago, Marcelo (I know Drenthe is doing well but marcelo is more mature Tactically)
Raul and Higuin forwards
This structure will create some virtual depth through the versatility of players, keeping in mind you still have Robin as a first class card on the wing who can even play in Marcelo place when fit, plus drenthe as another option, Van der vart as a first class depth as a play maker/AM in midfield or in one of the strikers place plus guti as another option, and Diara as a depth for DM, so even when a defender is missed u can switch Ramos there and play roben. adding Salgado, metzelder, Dela red, Saviola, Bueno to the mix It seems to be a bigger squad than what it is for real.
Youth players will be able to have an opportunity in this period either so you make sure no more Mata, gurrero and Negredo will leave the club and turn from being your hope to become ur nightmare when playing against your team.
I think this strategy can help earning a place in the top three which means CL, then you start building the team calmly and without panic decisions.
Sorry for all Miss spelling, specially players names, but thats my 5 cents about RM, the most expensive five cents for a Barcelona Fan;)

Great points Ramzi, coming from a Barca fan im glad u not just coming here to gloat about Barca success and Madrids struggle for form. There has been a few Barca fans coming here and just talking trash about the team i support and love. Although everyone has their opinion and right to blog, i think some comments made by a few Barca fans were uncalled for and completely unappropriate. Sure Madrid find themselves in a slump but hopefully in the clasico both teams will put on a good show and the best team will win. Last season as we all know Madrid won both games. Hala Madrid!

and ramzi great point but this squad is not as deep as you think especially with most of its players being injury prone or out of form , we NEED reinforcement whether they’ll be coming from the castilla or somewhere else doesnt matter but we need depth , even if we’re only aiming for a top 3 finish keep in mind that valencia , villareal and sevilla are all doing great

Andres, maybe you didn’t read my comment carefully. But I aknoweledged Madrids history alrady. I know that they’ve played with style with flair with whatever you want to say so please don’t use that as a basisi to asses the reason I am a Culé. Some of the best plays I have seen are from the players in white. One of my favourite was Figo even though he betrayed Barça thanks to his rep. But please don’t insult my intelligence as I have not done so to any of you. The only reason I mentioned Capello is because he had the guts to sit whom ever and not take crap from the front office. Not because of his horrible defensive football.
Donovan I hope your not reffering to me since I have said nothing inappropriate. Not a single foul word. Yes I’ve gloated. But that’s part of being rival fans right? Just like 9 Chaps goes to our post we always welcome y’all.
If anyone has used inappropriate language it has been your posters.

Just thought it was an interesting fact.
Anyway though I do believe that if it wasnt for the injuries you would be a stronger team. But you should not consider the injury spree as bad luck but rather as a symptom of the ailment you currently suffer. Honestly from a neutral perspective the front office and the coach and overall plan they’ve developed are not up to par to the quality that a team like Madrid, Barça, Man U etc. Deserves.
Interesting Fact: Barça has won almost double the amount of super clasicos Madrid has. Acording to Sport.es , you can take that for what its worth.
Honestly I prefer a tight/close super clasico than a total beat down. I guess the 4-1 left a sour taste in my mouth. Of maybe I just like torture. 2-1 Barça wins of course.
