Guti’s Anniversary

Nothing Better Then HighSchool Yearbook Pictures
13 years is a long time for a professional footballer to play. Much less for one team. The fact that Jose Maria Gutierrez has played basically his whole career with Real Madrid is a source of great pride for not only the player but also for all Real Madrid fans. 13 years ago he made his debut this weekend against Sevilla, a sub appearance for Amavisca which resulted in a 3-1 win. Raul of course had been promoted a year earlier to the first team, and the two were again united after tearing up the junior divisions of the cantera.
Last weekend against Getafe, Guti played his 500th game for Real, a legendary milestone of course considering the great players who have also reached that mark. What is most remarkable for me is that he has never really had the full of trust of any one coach, and he has seen plenty in his thirteen years. He started out as a striker, then in the hole, before he moved further back in front of Helguera for a time being, then became a sub for the Galacticos, before being tried as a holding player. There are of course other variations in there, but you get the gist, he has played wherever asked, and he has done a fantastic job for us over the year. He has never been quite appreciated as a creative genius outside of the walls of the Bernabeu, earning very few Spanish caps and hardly ever being mentioned in the press as one of Europe’s elite.
Of course his time has passed now, but he still continues to amaze us with his inate ability to pick players out with clever through balls and his great surges forward where he brings panic to the opposition defense. Thank you Guti for all of your service, and I hope you win a few more titles before you retire.

Too much emphases has been put on Huntelaar. Every year he gets praised and praised but he stays at Ajax. Every year he scores goals in Holland’s league which isn’t anywhere near Spain, Italy, England and even Germany and France. He is now 25 years old and hasn’t played in any really good teams so I don’t think he is THAT amazing. BUT, he can yet prove me wrong…
