Hallelujah! Pink Slip Season
By: Corey | May 20th, 2009The moment many of us were eagerly awaiting for: my return, nah thats not a big deal. Its the end of Pedja Mijatovic baby. Obviously he was not going to be able to continue under which ever president will be elected, but hearing the news that his contract has been terminated early is simply awesome. It brings a close to the Calderon era for sure, and it is really a great sign for the future of the club to get this pin head out.
No one liked this guy, yet he stayed at the club for three years. He even had his own disgruntled fan videos. Check them out (they are in Spanish). Video 1 Video 2 Video 3
Some of Pedja’s more enlightened signings include Gabi Heinze, Javier Saviola, Jose Antonio Reyes, Emerson, Antonio Cassano etc.
He completely botched several promising negotiations, including Angel Di Maria, David Villa, David Silva, Santi Cazorla and most notable, Cristiano Ronaldo.
He paid 30 million euros for Pepe, who at the time was worth probably 7-8 million, and he bought Royston Drenthe for 13 million, and Wesley Sneijder for 27 million! Outrageous fees for these players. Not knocking the players, but surely better negotiations would have lowered the price on those signings amongst others and saved the club around 35 million dollars.
He was a disaster when he was picked up on the Calderon ticket because he had 0 experience in such a role, or any football administration role for that matter. He was never considered a truly legendary player of the club, although his goal to win the Champions League in 98 was memorable. His credibility was non-existent and unlike Jorge Valdano or Emilio Butregueno, he was not a legend that had the hearts of the fans. Both those men had previously experience in football administration before coming to Real also.
Goodbye Mijatovic. I will miss making fun of you and your brill creamed hair and porn-starish mustache. Let this face live long in the memory.

Glad to see some fresh post up again Corey! Also good to see that guy finely leave. Some of the transfers he made was ridiculous, most of them being fringe players. And letting the likes of Granero and Mata and Negredo leave the club. Im happy to see Mijatovic go. But now the new president and his staff will have to clean up the mess left behind.

I didnt even mention the fact that he presided over a large amount of the very capable youth team players who left the Castilla team including Granero, Nieto, Negredo, De la Red, Mata, Angel Sanchez, Adrian Gonzalez, Balboa and Soldado. That makes him that much worse.

Don’t forget about Arbeloa. He would be a better choice at left back than Heinze, although so would Torres in my opinion.

Just want to congratulate you guys on getting rid of one of the worst people in your club.
Your team is bound to improve now.

Corey, I can’t believe I’m gonna soy this, but some of the players that you mentioned, were requested by the coaches at the time ( for example, Saviola by Schuster, Emerson by Capello, Cassano came when Florentino was still in charge…), so in those cases it wasn’t entirely his fault…
But having said that, he’s responsible of the ridiculous prices the club paid while he was in charge; there’s another factor here: whenever Madrid asks for a player, the price goes up at least 30%, I’ve been seeing it since the Florentino days, and it’s just a consequence of how the club is perceived by other teams…
Anyways, I’M REALLY HAPPY he’s gone!!!!
HALA MADRID!!!

Like most Madridistas, the news is a breath of fresh air, may he spend his days hanging upside down in some Transalvaynian cellar or more likely in the garage where all his Ferraris are parked.
He bought Van Nistelrooy and Gonzalo, and half heartedly let De la Red back in, and I can´t honestly think of anything more. I´m surprised that only 49% of Marca internet readers classified his tenure as ´muy malo´!!Posted from

He had some good purchases of course, its hard not too. The bad ones outweigh the good ones though. A coach usually requests certain players, so as Cesar said, Saviola is not all his fault. But his ridiculous wage package is. The problem with Mijatovic, beyond terrible negotiating, was that he really screwed over the cantera, and that is never a good thing. Goes to show, we need people who were raised by the club to be in charge of the club at all levels.
