Hunter Passes His Medical and Other News

By: Corey | December 3rd, 2008

- Hunter passed his medical in Madrid yesterday. Hooray!

“I’m very happy right now, I suppose I will be even happier when I arrive at Madrid and can be with my new team-mates.

“I’m going to Real Madrid to grow as a player and fight with one of the biggest teams in Europe.

“Madrid are one of football`s most historical clubs and from now on I hope to make their fans happy by scoring many goals and winning titles.”

No. I`m Klass Jan Huntelaar. I`m different, but we both share the same badge, that of Real Madrid. For this I am extraordinarily happy.

“Ruud is a great player and I know all about him because we`ve been together with the Holland squad.

“He was always one of my role models as a footballer. He is an extraordinary goalscorer and everyone regrets his recent knee injury. I want to take this chance to wish him all the best.

“I want to score many goals to help Real Madrid as soon as possible and give my encouragement to Van Nistelrooy because he is the best,” added Huntelaar, who will pen a four-and-a-half-year deal with Madrid, subject to a medical.

“I hope to be back as soon as possible. I`m training very well, without problems, running without difficulty and touching the ball.

“I cannot put a date on my return, this is a question for the medical staff. I`m sure I will be in peak condition for January. As well as that, before then I can`t play for Real Madrid anyway.

“But I don’t want to take a single risk with my ankle. I first want to recover fully. That is most important.

“I will speak with Real and Ajax about what to do. Maybe the clubs have made an agreement about that too. So it is very well possible I have already played my last Ajax match.”

Hunter passed his medical and all that hoopla, and will be a Real player as of January. He is currently coming off an ankle injury that will keep him out of action until mid December, so he may have played his last game for Ajax a few months ago. Good news though, I was a little scared we would have a Gabi Milito-esque situation.

- Next up, some more bad news on the injury front. It looks like Mamadou Diarra will need surgery on his knee after re-injuring it on international duty for Mali. He will undergo an arthroscopic examination to determine the extent of the injury next week. Marca’s estimate was that he would be out for 6 months, which is effectively the season. Never good news, as we would then be getting thin in the center of midfield just we are up front and at the back.

- Ramon Calderon, always one to give an interview, all but confirmed the Diarra news while talking about the Huntelaar signing yesterday.

“Huntelaar is a player that Ajax wanted €40 million for this summer, the coach believed he was a good player and now he is here. For us he is key, above all because of the injury to Ruud Van Nistelrooy,” he declared.

“The signing is a decision of the coach and we are now seeking a winger. We are doing all we can to have him before the second part of the league begins again on January 4.”

“It would make no sense to get rid of the coach now after winning the league and beating records,” he mused.

“We are in a bad stage that is not logical and now it seems that Diarra will have to be operated on. Everything is a problem and that affects the performance of the team, but I trust in the coach.”

- Ruben de la Red’s first round of tests were finished this week, with the prognosis being Ruben cannot play until he undergoes another round of tests, a genetic study to determine possible heart problems. It looks like Ruben may not just be out for the season, but his career is in the balance right now, although you wouldnt know it with how calm he is.

“I know I’m in good hands. I feel in high spirits and I’m calm, but I’m also anxious to help my team-mates. I must be realistic. I acknowledge the current situation and I know the most important thing for me right now is to take things slowly. I have to think about Rubén, about the person and my health, before thinking about De la Red the football player.”

“We have to run all sorts of tests and wait for the results of a genetic study. I hope to forget about all this in the near future. I’m at home with my family every day, enjoying spending time with my son. I watch a lot of football.”

“The team currently sustains many injuries, but the Real Madrid squad is always proud and consists of a strong group of players. The team hasn’t said it’s last yet. We will face important teams like Sevilla, Barcelona and Villarreal soon and I’m sure my team-mates will live up to those challenges. Real Madrid have won two consecutive league titles and that didn’t happen by chance.”

“I can’t possibly individually thank all the fans from all over Spain who have given me their support. It will help me get better much sooner.”

Lots of injuries, and a really trying time for Ruben de la Red, but with the signing of Huntelaar we are atleast working on the holes left by the injury absences. Just another day in the life of a Real Madrid fan.

    Torres, Pepe, Canavaro, Heinze;
    Sneijder, De la Red, Diarra, Robben;
    Higuain, van Nistelrooy.

That’s my prediction for who will start against Sevilla… next year.

Seriously, what the fuck’s up here. This type of injury list begs for an explanation besides just ‘bad luck.’ It’s pretty tempting to simply consider this season down the tube.

But wait! We now have Klassy Klaas on board! Great news!

My prediction: he scores 3 goals in 7 games before twisting his ankle at the discoteca. And then falls off the table while being examined by the medicos, and picks up a knock that requires surgery. Ends up sharing ice-cream sandwiches with his hospital mate, Ruud.

I really hope this signing doesn’t cause us to blow our chances with Benzema (a.k.a. Krazy Karim), which it almost certainly will.

Real Madrid will now porceed to the signing of a winger. Ramon Calderon said the player will arrive before the 4th and he will be young able tp take part in the UCL.

AS link us to David Silva as our best option and meets the above critieria. As also stated that Benzema is stillan option for next season, Benzema stated “I have been a Real Madrid fan from when i was small. I like the white T-shirt and everything that the club represents.”

Were also liniked to the following players:
Arshavin - Milan are also intrested (does not meet requirments)
Keirrison - A foward (he can also play on the wings)
Jovanovic - 27years of age and a narural right winger
Di Maria - Left winger (I think he cannot play in the CL)

Regulations of the UEFA Champions League

    17.18
One player from the above quota of three who has played UEFA club
competition matches for another competing club in the current season may
exceptionally be registered, provided that the player has not been fielded:
− in the same competition for another club
− for another club that is currently in the same competition.
Furthermore, if the player’s new club is playing in the UEFA Cup, his former
club must not have played in the UEFA Cup at any point in the current
    season

Meaning only one player who has played in UEFA club competition may play in Champions. I guess Di Maria is ruled out because Huntelaar has also played in the UC.

I’m not convinced this is the guy for us. I wonder if this deal was rushed through in order to meet the AGM deadline to save Calderon.
I said it before and alot of people disagreed with me, if we hadn’t put all our eggs in the Ronaldo basket and failed to sign him we could have landed a player with a strong future like Benzema or Villa. Now I would be surprized if either of those 2 would come.

Jovanović is a striker mate, and i really hope we don’t get him. Sure, he’s on form, but as they say form is only temporary. We need some good old pace in our attack to blitz through other teams!!! Apart from Robben and Drenthe (who both play in the same position), there’s no one else in any part of the pitch to inject more pace into the game. (Oh yeah Higuain’s fairly quick). Still. And we desperately need a bloody right winger. Considering how Narrow we play, Huntelaar was a stupid buy…Drenthe can’t cross and Robben’s always injured. We need a quality right winger to bomb in the crosses, or Huntelaar will be rendered fairly ineffective. And someone Spanish, for the love of god.

I think Drenthe is a good crosser of the ball - in fact it’s the only element of his play that has impressed me at all so far :P

i also realised just now that I didn’t see much future for Van Nistelrrooy when he joined either, shows how much I know, but I wasn’t the only one who was skeptical about the van man.

“This type of injury list begs for an explanation besides just ‘bad luck.’”

You’re right. It is a combination of a poor club fitness regime and fragile players. But Real is getting what they paid for - a group of frequently injured players. Then you act surprised when…they get injured. I feel as if Calderon puts together his transfer wish list by doing database searches through newspapers - the players whose names show up the most, he tries to sign.

The savior of your season is a guy coming off of a long term injury? How much are do your physios get paid, anyway? Clearly not enough

I would not go so far as to say Hunter is the savior of our season. Actually we are still poised for the CL and the league title, although there is alot of hard work to be done still. Hunter is a replacement for Ruud, the true savior of the season has yet to show his head.

The injuries are not something you would expect from Diarra, De la Red, Cannavaro, Higuain, Ruud and Torres. Heinze and Robben are often injured true, but the rest are usually pretty fit. Cannavaro is getting older so he will wear down quicker, like wise with Ruud, but you never expect this many first team regulars to be out. Sneijder is not one to get injured that much either, but he has been having all sorts of problems recently. Having a look into the clubs physiotherapy and medical treatment may be a good idea, while something tells me the fitness training done by Di Salvo is sub-par as he was a Capello crony on a big contract that Real did not feel like eliminating.

As a reminder, there’s been a lot of insinuation that the quality of the pitch in the Bernabeu is partially at fault for the well of injuries. And if you consider the injuries picked up by Guti, Gago and Higuain this season, they all occurred without contact when the player shifted weight on the pitch in home matches.

However, those who watched the Getafe game and scrutinized the replay when Sneijder went down will attest that he was accidentally kicked in the calf while down, which nearly caused his leg to hyper-extend. Sneijder’s injury was, in fact, bad luck.

But I agree that it seems a bit foolish to sign a player that is already injured and does nothing to improve our tactical flaws. He is a goal scorer though, and we need one of those.

who the hell is our next signing gonna be i CANT WAIT to find out lol im so damn impatient its not even funny

anyways the hunter will prove a lot of people wrong the mistake that people make is to think that he is only a “box striker ” this kid used to be winger in his younger days he can do a lot of stuff with ball but i guess we’ll find out

He use to play everywhere in his younger days, he played just about every position on the field at some point in the junior divisions. Remember that the best defender on a team is usually the striker….

Evo, you’ve probably been watching Drenthe on PES, or FIFA, because in real life HE COULDN’T MAKE A CROSS, EVEN IF HIS LIFE DEPENDED ON IT, lol!!!

I think that in the long run, KJH’s signing is gonna be very good for us, with Ruud not getting any younger we need a striker wiht his abilities…; I still think raul has to play less, he’s past his prime, and he only gets by on effort, and that’s not enough at this stage of his career…

Ai have to agree with the previous posts, in that WE NEED A RIGHT WINGER!!!!, we have Strikers who are also good in the air, but nobody to provide quality crosses for them…

That’s all for now, I’ll try to get the Madrid game on Cyprus this weekend, wish me luck

Don’t blame the pitch. Old Trafford is just as bad, but most of their first team is healthy. Point is, if you’re getting long term injuries from slipping on a bad pitch, the problem is still with the player’s fitness.

Although I was just being cynical with that savior comment. But seriously, I don’t think it’s such a good idea to load up on Dutch players, especially if you’re trying to make a CL run - they don’t stand up well against teams of equal skill and superior physicality - which will be pretty much everyone once you get to the quarters

whats the jibe on Dutch players “they don’t stand up well against teams of equal skill and superior physicality”, oh really? say that to France and Italy so called superior in both categories. Although, its never a good idea to stock up any one nationality that is different to the club’s home country as it almost always fails. Arsenal for example have not won anything the last few years with mostly French players, Barca always had probs with too many Dutch back in the days. Hunter will do fine I reckon but the problem lies more on the wings and full backs. They should buy Spanish to keep the fans quiet.

According to Goal.com we may have Cannavaro, Robben, Metzelder and Higauin back for the Sevilla fixture. This would certainly help us out a lot, especially Higuain and Cannavaro. However, I think that given Drenthe’s form of late, and Robben’s breakability, it’d be better to give Arjen the time he needs to fully recover. How great would it be if he was fit for el Clasico?

    Hala Madrid!

Cesar - ever wonder why Madrid fans are so often characterised as fickle? Drenthe is very young and hasn’t had much play time - I think he will be a good player one day but needs alot of work now….regardless of what he’s like on PES.
I have seen him put effective crosses in and seen him put in some bad ones - perhaps you only see the bad ones in this time of frustration for us all.
