Injuries Plague Madrid
By: Corey | December 1st, 2008I posted a list of the current walking wounded before the Getafe match, and that 7 potential starters on it. It looked a little something like this:
De la Red: Severe blackout. Awaiting further tests.
Robben: Grade II right soleus tear. Training with squad.
Cannavaro: Strained adductor muscle. Training with squad.
Heinze: Left fascia injury.
Diarra: Grade I left femoral biceps strain. Treatment: Medical, physiotherapy, gym & field work.
Van Nistelrooy: Partially torn right meniscus and cartilage damage. Treatment: Surgery (12 November). Treatment: Gym work.
HiguaĆn: Sprained left ankle. Treatment: Medical, physiotherapy, gym & field work.
Well if that was not enough, we now have recieved word that three more starters have sustained injuries during the Getafe match.
Sneijder: An MRI showed that the midfielder has a Grade I right femoral biceps injury, for which he is expected to miss approximately two weeks of playing time.
Torres: Diagnosed with a Grade I-II left hamstring injury. The defender is expected to be out up to three week.
Pepe: After having an MRI, the Portuguese defender was diagnosed with a Grade I-II left quadriceps injury that will keep him sidelined between three and four weeks.
Yes thats right, that is a whole team of players that are now injured. 10 players! A pretty good team too. So while I always hesitate to complain about Real’s lot in life, this injury crisis surely is something to lament. Besides our coaches utter lack of motivation for his job, and the subsequent lack of motivation the players show, it seems like this season is just simply doomed for failure. After so much talk of it being the year where Real returned to aesthetic football + winning trophies, it seems we wont get to see much of anything.
Pepe is out three to four weeks, Sneijder probably three while Torres could be out until the end of January, as this is his second tear on that muscle this year. Heinze and Diarra will be out another two to three weeks, while Higuain’s status remains uncertain. Ruud is done for the season, and De la Red could very well be too. Robben and Canna are training atleast, but with Robben being so fragile, and Cannavaro also a little on the frail side due to his age, it just looks very bleak. Which is to bad, because we have a good team.
I guess we may see some Castilla players with the squad this week, and we will see some of the lesser played get run outs, like Salgado, Metzelder and Javi Garcia, while Saviola and Drenthe have been playing for a few weeks now with little reward. Its not a good time to be a Real Madrid fan, but we find strength in the fact that we are never defeated, we never give up. HALA MADRID!

There has to be a fitness problem or something. How can so many professional players who train every day get injured so fast?

I read a theory that it has to do with their nutrition, I don’t know if it’s true, but I thought it was interesting
I think injuries have finally caught up with us, after two years of being almost injury free; in the case of the european players, I think it has to do with many players having played the Euro championships, so that could be one reason for it; as for the latin american players, the conmebol qualifiers are brutal, and all that traveling takes a toll on their bodies
On one final note, what do you guys think of Huntelaar’s almost sure signing???
Take care everybody

That is just ridiculous. That’s practically our entire first team (well, who I would choose, at least) except I’d have Ramos in over Torres. I suppose that’s football though… you take the good with the bad.
Madrid are lucky to have at least a competent set of backups. So it’ll probably be Casillas, Salgado, Ramos, Metzelder, Marcelo, Gago, Drenthe, Guti, van der Vaart, Raul and Saviola in the next match.

competent???? i rate them as trash. marcelo is bad. metzelder worse. and i am not sure but he is injured again.
and diarra , heinze , pepe are out until new year. sneijder might make el clasico. and the way our luck is going we might have even more injuries. i hope/pray/plead that doesn’t happen.
but it ain’t over till its over , guys. we should not lose hope. there is a lot of season left and messi’s record in injuries rivals glass boy’s. so does villa’s. we are real madrid. and we will do what we do best and have always done. WIN. its our right and not just because of our history. its because we are and shall forever be THE GREATEST FOOTBALL CLUB IN THE WORLD.
HALA MADRID. SOMOS LOS CAMPEONES.PARA AHORA Y POR SIEMPRE.

I don’t think Marcelo is a bad player at all. He’s awesome going forward, his problem is that he can’t defend.
He’s also young and will get better i think.Posted from
