International Break is Dull

By: Corey | February 10th, 2009

Guti gave an interview to Don Balon yesterday and he had some interesting criticisms of the club, but also looked forward to his future with the club, maybe as a coach, while also praising Raul’s intensity for the badge that could one day lead him to becoming the club’s president. Here is the interview, and a link to it on AS here:

“Raul is such a strong icon for the club, that, in the future, I can see him as the president of Real Madrid, which will start a new era,” he began.

“My desire is to be a coach, and to one day be in the dug-out at Real Madrid. Madrid is like any other club in La Primera, except with big players, so doing the team here is a lot easier than at other places.”

“It has all be very ugly. A club such as Real Madrid should do things better, but it has passed now and we hope it won’t happen again. It is a shame that someone has not come to do things well and signed players to make Real Madrid great,”.

“When you are the coach of Real Madrid, you must think about what you say very carefully, and with the position you have to speak to the press a lot,”

I think Guti is still somewhat of an unknown quantity when it comes to coaching. I thought Hierro would be a great coach, but he chose to be an administrator, probably just because he had so many connections within the Spanish FA. Raul to me would make a great coach as well, or Fabio Cannavaro, who is almost destined to coach in the Serie A. But Guti? I dont know. He may know how to handle erratic talent, seeing as how he is one, but I think he may go the way of Schuster when it comes to coaching.

His criticism of how the club is being run is also note worthy, not only because one could misinterpret it as dissension, but also because it goes without saying that there are very few people, even our own player, who dont look at Real’s management and find it laughable.

As for Mijatovic’s firing, I have yet to see anything in the major daily papers, nor has Sky Sports news, which I watched before heading off to class, mentioned anything about it. It seems as if Mijatovic’s position is untenable given how close he was to Calderon, but he survives still, like a bacteria on the bottom of the sea floor. When he does get fired, I will throw myself a little party.

Next up, just a note to anyone who is in Madrid on Wednesday. Real Madrid’s first team (what players are not on international duty) will play a friendly match against Real Madrid Castilla, and it will be open to the public at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium, where Castilla plays all of its games. The game starts at 11am CET, it will certainly be a great chance to see some of the fringe players and all of the young guys from Castilla in action. It wont be on tv obviously, but I will hunt down some pictures to put up on Thursday.

Sure, international break can be boring, but that picture is worth a thousand words, at least. Holy crap.

I dont think anyone could deny Guti looks like a huge homosexual. But he is married with children, so that seems to dictate he is just into fashion and a weird sense of style, as well as being a very eclectic and eccentric individual. Then again, is that not what being a play maker is all about?

Corey, I think that’s what being a footballer is all about. Gotta love it though.
