Liveblog: Cosmic misfortunes, really…
By: Steve | October 29th, 2007Hala Madrid! Sorry Madridistas, I know I’ve become Mr. Unreliable of late, but really, I had yet again another good reason: I got tickets to the first-ever NFL regular season game held outside of North America yesterday.
Yes, that’s right, yours truly was able to sit in the upper tier of what might possibly be the best football (soccer) stadium in the world (Wembley Stadium) only to watch a piss-poor excuse for a football (American pigskin) game, as the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins made the cavernous stadium packed with 81,000 fans sound like my own living room. It was that crappy. But hey, when Eli Manning explodes for all of 49 passing yards, and the Dolphins have backups starting at every single skill position, you know it’s gonna suck.
Anyways, I will definitely try my utmost to bring back the great liveblogs we’ve had before. Next up is Valencia-Madrid on Halloween. Lucky for you, I can’t stand dress-up parties, so I might seriously get to liveblog this baby.

It’s London, who would have thought it was going to rain???

I was really disappointed by the turf there. And the teams. More the teams than the turf. But who would have thought that the Giants-Dolphins would be a suck-fest…oh wait. What a terrible decision to send those particular teams. Why not a decent matchup like the Packers-Broncos from last night? Tony Kornheiser could have sucked off Favre in London; he could add another continent to the list of people who think he’s an annoying jackass. Imagine all the “Tony in London” possibilities for PTI…
That’s awesome that you went, though. I would have tried to go too. Was it expensive? I wondered how much they’d be able to charge since it’s not exactly the most popular sport.

Well, i was disappointed it was the Dolphins too… but maybe they were the only team willing to give up a home game for it? Who knows… it’s tragic that they sucked so much though, I know the hype would’ve been way better if it had been, say, Lions and Bears or something like that.
Turf was definitely getting chewed up… i read somewhere on ESPN, i think, that the drainage systems on playing fields is far more prevalent in North America than here, which explains some of the slop I’ve seen. Funny, since the weather here is obviously more consistently bad than in America. I guess they want to keep it “pure”?
anyways, my ticket’s face value was 45 pounds, or about 90 USD with the latest exchange rates. The view was pretty good still, I could read uniform numbers over most of the field.

Wow, that’s an expensive ticket, if you ask me. Going to a Dolphins home game and spending $90 for a ticket would get you lower level on the side…
