Liveblog: Real Madrid v Real Zaragoza

By: Steve | January 6th, 2008

Hala Madrid! Hello Madridistas, tonight marks Los Merengues’ first La Liga match after the Christmas break, and the second last match of the first round through the Liga. We’re up against Real Zaragoza, and Corey has previewed the match. Tonight’s match is available in the UK on Sky Sports 1 at 6pm.

Unfortunately, the Giants are on Sky Sports 2 at the same time, and I don’t control the remote when my flatmate Liam’s in the house, so there’s no liveblog from me tonight, lo siento. Feel free to comment about the match here anyways.

Quote of the match from Ray upon watching the replay of Robinho’s goal

It looks like Robinho is baking bread in his shorts.

I caught some parts of the match in between commercial breaks in the Giants-Bucs game… I managed to catch both goals, and both were beauties. The first one really resulted from Guti’s introduction, and his vision in passing is really the key for the offense. I also saw Baptista’s beastly run where he shook off 2 defenders before slotting a nice pass to Robinho.

But man of the match HAS to be Casillas. It could’ve been at least 3-0 or 4-0 before Ruud scored.

Reflections on the next match: with Sergio Ramos suspended for picking up his 5th yellow card, and Metzelder still ailing, we might be in for a REALLY makeshift back four. If Heinze is out and Pepe doesn’t recover, Cannavaro could be our only legit centreback. I actually don’t even know who we could slot in there. Diarra would be my first choice, but he’s off to the African Nations Cup.

Schuster said before the game that Pepe should be ready for the Mallorca game - given that he played Salgado in the Copa del Rey last week, I expect he’ll do the same at right back on Wednesday. More worrying is Diarra’s absence for up to 6-7 weeks. Let’s see how Gago performs…

i cant believe last night i watch real madrid match.
really they disappoint me in first one hour but now i know that real can do anything at any time.
and now i know that Guti is the best choice for middle and casillas is the best GK in the world.
his reflections was out of this world.now i wish schuster reconsiderate about Guti.

The Church of Scinetology has been accepting people alot lately Elisa, they may make Iker a saint, cause of course Tom Cruise was in the Bernabeu last year when we wont the title.

Gago’s performance is gonna have to be way above what he has usually been, but with Baptista beside him atleast there is some sort of physical presence.

Arash, it was a poor performance, but winning when you dont play well is the mark of a champion, dont forget that.
