Mijatovic Has Trouble Skating

By: Corey | September 16th, 2008

Ironic? I Think So

I dont know if there is any article of truth in this, seeing as how Goal.com is reporting something that was referenced from Sport, the notoriously pro-Barca paper. Not the best way to open up an article…. It alledges that Mijatovic’s recent Real Madrid tv interview was taped and then reviewed by Calderon, Angel Sanchez and Angel Arroyo, Calderon’s trusty side kick now a days. The scrutinized his every word as they looked for anything non-PR in his answering of questions. This leads Sport to believe that Mijatovic is skating on thin ice now.

While I wont lie and say Mijatovic has done a good job, but I do feel bad for him. He takes alot of shit from the press and fans, he is basically the human shield for Calderon and co. Of course it baffled me why he was hired in the first place, as it was a move to connect Calderon to the past glories of the club with a striker who to my best judgement was never in that high of esteem with the fans in the first place. He was of course part of the infamous “Ferrari Boys” along with Panucci and Seedorf that was shipped out of the club.

He has not done a good job, but then again what the hell is his job? What does he do every day? Kick his feet up on his desk and shoot paper balls into his garbage bin? Basically, until there is a shirt storm in the press about something Real has done, then he is out there taking the flack and looking like a devious asshole. So while I wouldnt give two shits to the wind if he was fired and replaced with (Jorge Valdano please, he is so great) some other greaseball, atleast have some pity for his plight.

we need a good replacement for mijatovic.someone like pierpaolo marino(one hell of a job with napoli) or sacchi.although he resigned he great.he is d one who brought sergio ramos to the club.although we paid 27 million€ for him when he was still 19, its been bang for d bucks.so i guess someone who is a good negotiator and has an eye for talent(not arsene) will be good.

I really don’t think you need the word “notoriously” in front of “pro-Barca paper”. I mean, that’s like saying the Wall Street Journal’s OP ed page is allegedly conservative…why the ambiguity? Ha.

True, I think its implied when you put Sport in the same sentence as Real Madrid.

Id get in Arsene cos he has a good eye for talent and he has worked with Schuster before!!

I dont see that happening, but im just saying :)

I really dont know who is in chage at the club we have bought 19 new players and sold 20 odd players since they took charge but who is doing the work???Once we know that then we can say the other 2 are not doing much. untill then most Madridistas are just pissed at the management!!

I disagree in signing jorge valdano, he enjoyed a good period at real but his head was the first to role in the steep crisis. Fernando Hierro exited the club in bad terms with the management, of course there’s two sides to the coin but to sack vicente del bosque and the look on the malagueño’s face said enough.

The man to be held into account for Real’s comeback was Fabio Capello, the team wasn’t either working with Sacchi, luxemburgo, camacho etc. I’ll tell you the exact match and moment when Real revamped from their long lethargic sleep; right after falling against bayern of munich two seasons ago. The infamous comebacks from 2-0 started to appear right when Real left the CL and focused on the remaining league matches.

There seemed to be more clarity in the team’s management when Calderon took over but i’d say their manners are darkening a bit, Schuster said it loud and clear, if he’s not the first one to make the calls…then bad news…this season will be crucial for calderon and mijatovic to bring in some big names before the presidency elections.

i dont buy into that arguement, because with that being said, then teams like Marseille, Porto and Borussia Dortmund are on the same level as Real Madrid? Dont think so, one of the things that makes Madrid great is that it has a rich history with those European trophies. So we have not won a title in 7 years, lots of big teams have not.

A couple of stats to keep in mind:

Semifinal appearances for Real Madrid = 21
Semifinal appearances for closest team = 13 (AC Milan)

Real has 9 titles and 3 runners up medals
AC Milan has 7 titles and 4 runners up medals

Real Madrid has 3 titles in the modern Champions League era (1992), while AC Milan has 3 as well since that point.

Seems like they are pretty dominant in the Champions League to me…
