More Good News
By: Corey | April 9th, 2008So I have not seen anything denying the De la Red back to Real rumors so I will run with them. He will return, and I suppose Granero will to, although another loan for him is a posibbility. Theres even more good news for Real, which I will get to later, but for now here is the latest transfer hulabloo.
- Dani Aquino, 19 year old super stud striker from Murcia, the kid we have a preferred option on, is most likely coming our way this summer, as we look to exercise that option and beat off the competition. Sounds good to move, a year or two in the Castilla team is possible if they get promoted, if they do not an immediate loan back to Murcia is mooted.
- Eze Garay is still unsure as to where he will end up this summer, but he is not worried about what happens. This sort of talk makes me think the deal with Barca is not gonna happen and he may end up in Liverpool. Or Madrid…dun dun dunnnnn! I dont know, but this kind of stuff gives me hope, I really hope he doesnt end up with Barca, cause the past 3 years of loving him were so good for me, I would like it to continue.
- Not content with spending a small third-world countires GDP on Zinedine Zidane (although money well spent), Real are looking to yet again set the mark with a 125 million dollar bid. Thats just insane, he is a great player that any team would like to have, but he is worth probably 40-50 million, just a little below my estimation of Messi’s worth at 60. And 60 is the highest I will go, no one is worth more then that to me. I dont think this will happen, Man U will fall apart without him, and Ferguson knows it.
- Robinho is now rumored to be for sale for 20 million euros. What? Ronaldo is 120 million, Robinho is 100 million less? Bullshit. Just because a player his on the bench for a few game after an injury and subsequent loss in form does not mean he will be sold.
- Newcastle want Christoph Metzelder. Poor guy has barely had a chance to show what he has got for us, but considering Prem teams throw cash around like Kanye West on designer shirts, this is possible. If we get a decent big for him let him go, thats pure profit there, and we can buy someone who is less prone to injury then all our current crop of center backs.
- Diarra is yet again being linked with Inter. Who isnt? It will be messy if it does happen, as is Inters way.
- Senior players such as Casillas and Raul are fed up with with Sergio Ramos’ attitude following his third red card this season. To his credit, he should have never gotten the card. But I have noticed that the lad has a big head all the sudden, he needs to come back down to earth. All white suits and greasy hair may make you a sexy beast to the Madrid nightlife, but you have yet to truely stamp yourself on the Real Madrid stage Sergio, there is much work to be done.
Gabi Heinze, himself no stranger to cards, had this to say about the issue:
“I am not someone to give advice to Sergio. It also has happened to me, it’s like form, what you must learn is to cool off just a little bit so that they do not show more cards to you.”
“It is normal that it happens when a person has character and I like people like this, for that reason I support him.”
Sergio Ramos is supposively upset with the reaction of many of his teammates, lets hope this little problem is quickly resolved, because he is a good player no doubt, one of my favorites.
- Real wants Didier Drogba….again, this makes no sense. Pedja was at the Chelsea match last night? I dont know about that either. Chelsea players, other then Essien, no thanks.
- Javi Garcia knows nothing about his return to Real. He says his agent has not told him, and he remains focused on Osasuna. Javi Garcia from Marca:
“It is said that my case may be, but all are words. In this world there is talk too much and not everything is true” “I am realistic and until there is no document or a serious conversation between Madrid and Osasuna am focused on Osasuna and if I need to be here as long as needed, happy life, “has assured
Well, I doubt theres anything formal yet, the season is still very much on and Osasuna is fighting for survival while we are fighting for the title, so it would be distracting sure. But I am pretty sure he will come back, Real has stopped the ‘loan a young guy out for a year then sell him no matter what he does on loan’ policy that saw Portillo, Juanfran and Arbeloa lost.
- I missed Royston Drenthes birthday which was last Friday. Welcome to the twenties big guy, its all down hill from here. Crazy that he is a year younger then me….my life sucks.
HUGE NEWS:
Ruud is back on the pitch and training once again. He was running on the pitch with the physios, so his return is not far off. Also, Metzelder is in the last stages of his recovery and may make the team by May. Hooray for no injuries. Well Dudek is hurt, oh well. Here is some training pictures for you:

Man, compared with what’s happening at Nou Camp, it’s just so good to see our men smiling.

great news all around, and that’s not even counting any big names we bring in next year. Hopefully that lights a fire under our current team.

on another non-Real related note, anybody have any thoughts on the Liverpool-Arsenal game? I was cheering for Liverpool with their Spanish heavy side, but it does kinda piss me off that on a complete whim by the ref…boom…Arsenal who was up aggregate, is now out, and Liverpool in. That 4th goal wouldn’t have happened had the penalty not happened. It took all of the air out of Arsenal’s sails.
Which brings up my real question, seriously, at what point will FIFA succumb to the idea of instant replay? Not as a standard practice, but certainly for game/season/tournament defining moments. I know it goes against tradition and the free flow of the game, but it’s just too much responsibility to give to one person. Refs get these calls wrong all the time, which has an impact on the integrity of the game. I mean, sometimes it feels like you just watched a boxing match, not sure what’s real and what’s not, or just scratching your head wondering what the whole point of the competition is if reality and fairness doesn’t prevail.

hey man,
wondering if you had heard any news about the altidore- real madrid link? I assume it is still a while off, but do you think its a realistic possibility that 1. they would buy Jozy and 2. he could actually see time with the first team in the next 5 years?
Thanks

Messi to Madrid? Pipe dream. They have a better shot at Ronaldo or Kaka but even at those inflated prices you have to wonder what that’ll do to the backroom politics. They just have to buy smarter and start building more towards Europe. Essien is a start, I like Diego but they have to baby him. They need to invest heavily at the back.

I didnt say we were gonna buy Messi, I simply said that he is the top of my transfer rating price, everyone else falls below him. Investment in the back may happen, but we need departures first. Namely Salgado, Canna (I dont want him to go but I know he will) and maybe Metzelder. We need a comanding central defender and then a young prospect, so Garay and another person. Any ideas everyone?

Elmero- I cant stand Liverpool, Man U or Chelsea, they bore me to death and they play like they expect ref decisions to go their way. I am in favor of instant replays, a challenge system like the NFL makes sense. American fans could cope with it, and on challenges commercials could be run which would be interesting for advertisers, definately helping the US soccer market. I agree about the flow of the game theory and the authority of the ref, but the games speed means that no one man can catch everything, and the trend these days seems to be making more bad calls then good calls in a game.

Steve, nothing new on Jozy. I could ask Dave, but I doubt he has heard anything either. I would love to see him added to the squad, he would definately get a shot at the first team, but being American means he takes up an non-EU spot, so that will affect whether he plays for Castilla first or not.

Steve,
AS has a habit of just coming up with a story, but never following it up, ever.
So until it really happens, then you won’t see anything.

Corey, here’s some of my dream list that I would like to see at El Madrid….what do you think?
Out: Goal - Dudek; Defense - Salgado, Metzhelder; Midfield - Baptista, Balboa; Forward - Saviola, Soldado, SCHUSTER
IN: Alves, Garay, Van der Vaart, David Albelda, Diego Capel, Villa, Benzema, Kun Aguero, LAUDRUP or BENITEZ

elmeromero: I was cheering on Arsenal - primarily because I’m sick of seeing Liverpool in the semi’s every f***ing year - and I feel you with the refs call. To make things worse, there was the penalty against Hleb in the box during the first game that went uncalled, a foul far more flagrent then the one called in the second. It’s hard to consider it a fair result, then, but as the saying goes: “The ref’s decision is final.” Love it or hate it, that’s football.
I suppose that instant replay might help this situation (or it might undermind what little authority the refs have left on the pitch) but I guess I would just prefer things stayed the way they are. And the idea of advertisements during replays? That’s one of the reasons I love soccer; play isn’t interupted by ads. (It infuriates me when I’m at a live American football game, say Soldier Field, and the play on the field stops so that the folks at home can get force fed a bunch of advertisements.)

Elisa - that’s quite a wish list. I hope you don’t mind me giving my two cents, but here it is: I’d rather not see Baptista go, for one, and though I love watching Capel race down the line, A.)We have plenty left wingers and B.)He’s a diving, time-wasting, crying little cheat. Maddening to watch him ham up a tap on the shin, and a shame that such talent is marred by theatrics.
Of your in list I like Garay, Villa and Benzema, and possibly Van der Vaart. Ramos is more than enough for right back, and I don’t want him to have to compete with Alves. I’d like the continuity of the same coach for two years (though Laudrup looks to be a stud) and finally, when it comes down to it, I like the fact that we’re showing faith in younger players (Drenthe, Gago, Balboa, Sneijder - and soon De la Red and Granero) rather than just bringing in superstars. I’m not keen on a return to the Galactico era, much more excited to see the present squad develop. So I hope we don’t have another bench shifting, lockerroom disturbing offseason with busloads of players coming and going.

Agreed john, I am sick of the boring Liverpool and Chelsea grinding out results to get to the semi final every year, I was thinking of writing an article about whether the Champions League is relevant any longer.
As fo your proposed signing Elisa, we dont get rid of Balboa, Metzelder or Baptista, but Diarra is a distinct possibility even though I would keep him too. As for additions, I like Benzema alot, and I obviously like Garay and Capel, but Capel has no place in the team. Other then that, no RVV or Dani Alves for me, while I would like to keep Schuster on for another year. Laudrup will coach our team one day, but not next season for sure, he still needs time at Getafe and possibly another club, he is still a little wet behind the ears. He did wonders with Brondby though, cant ignore that.

Understood, but if the cantera players don’t get much play, they will leave or be unhappy and not play to their potential. It’s a difficult balance.

Ramos is notorious for his disciplinary record, so is Guti. What changed? Why has Sergio gone all diva? I hope he is not believing all the press and hype about himself a la Ronaldhino? He needs to stay grounded.
And Robinho seems to be clashing with Schuster and co. Never a dull moment in the Madrid dressing room.
