No More Cristiano Ronaldo
By: Corey | August 7th, 2008Now that Ferguson has said Ronaldo will play for Manchester United a million times, Cristiano Ronaldo has said he will be playing for Manchester United for one more year. Pretty non-committal as far as after then, but for now we can all relax and enjoy the fact that coupled with Calderon saying that VdV was probably the last transfer of the market, the Ronaldo saga is finished. Atleast for now….

This Is How I Get All Those Prostitutes
I read this off of one of the links on the main page, this quote struck my fancy, as someone other then myself and all my readers (you, yes you!) out there has this opinion on the Ronaldo subejct. This is about Real’s supposive role in the whole problem.
“They’ve [Real Madrid sic] stoked the fires and let everything else [Ronaldo saga sic] run its course. They knew the English press would piss itself silly trying to fill column inches on the story, and when the shit lords of UK went ahead and did exactly that, the fans’ minds were poisoned and now they just don’t care any more.
It’s a very sad state of affairs - I hope Ronaldo can win the fans back although a lot of it will depend on what happens the next time the fake Madrid come knocking.
The fans are just as, if not more, fickle than the players.”
I agree, Real made a few comments about how Ronaldo is a good player, he would be a great player to sign, and they would only move for him if he were for sale. The English, and Spanish press ran with it and in the end what do we have? MU fans hate Ronaldo, English fans (or any MU/EPL fan globally) hates Real Madrid, and I end up having to defend my clubs ”actions” in the matter against blood thirsty MU fans. Are the fans more fickle than the players? Sure they are, there loyalty and opinions sway far to easily, but the media are top of the fickle pyramid here, if only to sell papers and get hits on their site.
By the way, shameless plug, 13,000 people viewed the site last month, keep up the good work everyone and spread the word!

Well, I guess that says a lot about the character of this guy; when Zidane, and Ronaldo said they wanted to play with Real Madrid, they showed more maturity and experience in handling the situation, not like this guy.
I, for one, am happy that he’s not coming, because even though he’s a great player, I think he would have been perceived as a “chulo” (show off) by the Madrid supporters, and we don’t want people who aren’t fully committed to our team.
Take care everybody, and HALA MADRID!!!!

This is so messed up. Just when I thought the silliness was finally through, my favorite football team made the transfer everyone’s been talking about all summer, with stories in the news every day: the Jets signed Brett Favre.
But thank goodness this Ronaldo business is finally through with. Hopefully Robinho will stay, and he, along with Robben, will dazzle on the left. How about this for a perspective line up:
Casillas
Ramos, Pepe, Canna, Heinze
Guti-Gago-VdV-Robinho
Raul and Ruud?
p.s. I know a lot of people would opt for Robben in Robinho’s spot - I’m biased - but I can’t say I’d be sad to see Robben in the spot.

Id play Diarra over Gago, and I dont think VDV will play centrally like that, he will probably play in place of Guti or Raul. I see Diarra and De la Red starting centrally, and Guti and Robben wide. VdV wont provide any defensive coverage, so unlike Sneijder, I dont think he is viable as a central midfielder.

With the Netherlands, VdV played kind of a roaming, attacking midfielder role, kind of like Fabregas. But you’re right, my midfield is ‘creative’ heavy, ‘defensive’ weak.
I also have to say, I much prefer Sneijder to Van der Vaart. I hope VdV’s arrival doesn’t lead to the exclusion of Wesley, or Guti, for that matter - at least not for the moment. I think Van der Vaart was a very smart signing, and I see him as a long term solution to Guti, and a temporary stop-gap to Sneijder’s absence.

What this latest rumors I hear that El Madrid is going to let Robinho go? You gotta be kidding.

yeah these rumours are picking up speed, and they’re all over the place. I hope Mijatovic and Portugal aren’t pinning their hopes on Robben being able to play 50-odd games a season. It’d be moronic to let Robinho go.

The problem is that by ‘brown nosing’ C.Ronaldo and offering him all that money after refusing to renew and upgrade Robinho’s contract at the end of last season(he makes less than Salgado, yes that Salgado!!) Madrid may now have lost both. That would suck, a whole season of Madrid without a true ‘fantasy futbol’ player. (Sorry Robben)

Wooooow I would hate to see Robinho go to the Blues, I keep hearing different things about where he desires to play, but all I know is that it really hurts us to lose him. Despite his lack of toughness, he’s really an electric player and can get the best of just about any defender in a 1v1. Is his desire to play in Madrid? I hope so, because Madrid would be nuts to let him go unless Calderon and Pedja have some other tricks up their sleeves.
I would not be surprised to see this go through, however, in a strictly business sense. Real, despite being named one of the richest clubs in the world, has also accumulated plenty of debts, and a move such as this might put the club in better financial standing. I don’t know how much the estimated $20 million or so (correct me if I’m wrong about the transfer fee please) accumulated from this deal would impact the club’s financials, but just about every business in the world would do better with 20 mil in the coffers. As much as I hate to see a player of Robinho’s quality go, football is still a business.
Here’s to hoping Robinho stays and we can sign another striker!

Robinho arrived for an already inflated fee from Santos (when you compare the fee to other Brazilians first arriving in Europe, for eg, the fee payed by Milan for Kaka, Porto for Diego, etc.) The fee being touted in the press is 19.7 million pounds. This isn’t a sizeable profit, and with the 19.7 million we’d get I can’t see us being able to sign anyone of Robinho’s quality for that price. So yes, we may have a sizeable debt, but this deal wouldn’t make any fiscal sense.

Sambit, I only hope Calderon reads your post.

Calderon realizes that the CL is the priority this year, so selling Robinho means taking a step backwards from that. I dont see it happening. But next season, I wouldnt hesitate to offload Robinho.

As a die hard Real Madrid fan I could not be happier that the Ronaldo`s deal is done. As my great friend Cesar said he is not going to be comitted to the team. On the other hand a thumbs up for buying Rafa. We just need to get fresh legs up front. No matter how great a player Raul and Ruud are, their time will come and we need to replace them with new and hungry for success players, like villa for example. We have a great team and coach, hopefully we can get the 10th this year.
Best wishes to everyone…Hala Madrid
