As a die hard Real Madrid fan I could not be happier that the Ronaldo`s deal is done. As my great friend Cesar said he is not going to be comitted to the team. On the other hand a thumbs up for buying Rafa. We just need to get fresh legs up front. No matter how great a player Raul and Ruud are, their time will come and we need to replace them with new and hungry for success players, like villa for example. We have a great team and coach, hopefully we can get the 10th this year.
Best wishes to everyone...Hala Madrid

Calderon realizes that the CL is the priority this year, so selling Robinho means taking a step backwards from that. I dont see it happening. But next season, I wouldnt hesitate to offload Robinho.

Robinho arrived for an already inflated fee from Santos (when you compare the fee to other Brazilians first arriving in Europe, for eg, the fee payed by Milan for Kaka, Porto for Diego, etc.) The fee being touted in the press is 19.7 million pounds. This isn't a sizeable profit, and with the 19.7 million we'd get I can't see us being able to sign anyone of Robinho's quality for that price. So yes, we may have a sizeable debt, but this deal wouldn't make any fiscal sense.

Wooooow I would hate to see Robinho go to the Blues, I keep hearing different things about where he desires to play, but all I know is that it really hurts us to lose him. Despite his lack of toughness, he's really an electric player and can get the best of just about any defender in a 1v1. Is his desire to play in Madrid? I hope so, because Madrid would be nuts to let him go unless Calderon and Pedja have some other tricks up their sleeves.

I would not be surprised to see this go through, however, in a strictly business sense. Real, despite being named one of the richest clubs in the world, has also accumulated plenty of debts, and a move such as this might put the club in better financial standing. I don't know how much the estimated $20 million or so (correct me if I'm wrong about the transfer fee please) accumulated from this deal would impact the club's financials, but just about every business in the world would do better with 20 mil in the coffers. As much as I hate to see a player of Robinho's quality go, football is still a business.

Here's to hoping Robinho stays and we can sign another striker!

The problem is that by 'brown nosing' C.Ronaldo and offering him all that money after refusing to renew and upgrade Robinho's contract at the end of last season(he makes less than Salgado, yes that Salgado!!) Madrid may now have lost both. That would suck, a whole season of Madrid without a true 'fantasy futbol' player. (Sorry Robben)

yeah these rumours are picking up speed, and they're all over the place. I hope Mijatovic and Portugal aren't pinning their hopes on Robben being able to play 50-odd games a season. It'd be moronic to let Robinho go.

With the Netherlands, VdV played kind of a roaming, attacking midfielder role, kind of like Fabregas. But you're right, my midfield is 'creative' heavy, 'defensive' weak.

I also have to say, I much prefer Sneijder to Van der Vaart. I hope VdV's arrival doesn't lead to the exclusion of Wesley, or Guti, for that matter - at least not for the moment. I think Van der Vaart was a very smart signing, and I see him as a long term solution to Guti, and a temporary stop-gap to Sneijder's absence.

Id play Diarra over Gago, and I dont think VDV will play centrally like that, he will probably play in place of Guti or Raul. I see Diarra and De la Red starting centrally, and Guti and Robben wide. VdV wont provide any defensive coverage, so unlike Sneijder, I dont think he is viable as a central midfielder.
