I agree Gonz, its why I recommend De la Red and Gago, who will give us the horizontal movement that Spain has so well with Xavi, Senna and Iniesta, but not sacrificing any lateral movement either. Diarra and VDV are to lateral, as VdV has an eye for the goal and the killer pass, but I feel like with Guti that is sort of a cancel out. And Diarra does not have much of a passing range, so when a team defends deep, the only thing you can make them do is chase after the ball and hope they crack, which is something Gago and De la Red could facilitate.

Congrats on the preview, which is thorough and insightful, as ever.

Regardless of the fact that Numancia beat Barça last week on the counter (they defend very deep in what is an extremely narrow pitch at home), Real should really make the game safe in the first half, and then put it away in the second. Much like Spain did against Armenia in midweek.
