Opinion Poll

While I start calling every hooker I know to shut them up after watching the Elliot Spitzer scandal unfold….just kidding. Actually, while I am looking for a job for the summer I wrote a link dump post yesterday that failed big time, I didnt link anything properly and it appears I never do, so my apologies. But I think its a good time to ask everyone what they think the team is missing, that

    one

player that we really could use,

    one

player we could use for the future and

    one

player who you would want regardless of the circumstances. In total, that is 3 players you can list, and give a good explanation why for each.

Real likes the look of young strikers, since Raul and Ruud are not getting any younger, Saviola isnt hitting the target any better and Soldado is not getting any more playing time. First and foremost is Karim Benzema, and all I have to say is who wouldnt? But now theres a few more French league players that interest Real. But I have to support my all American prospect here.

Future Player
Jozy Altidore, Striker Red Bulls New York:

You dont know Jozy? He is on the cover of my copy of FIFA 08, and I just watched him play for the US Mens Olympic Qualifier Team against Cuba. Yeah, the u-23 team, and he is 18. Scored 5 goals in 6 games at the u-20 tourney this summer, as a 17 year old. I also have been down in NY a few time to watch him play for Red Bulls, were he usually scores with ease. Sound familiar now? Good, now he is not a good as other European prospects of his age, but he is good, and its rumored all it would take is 4 million euro to buy him. I say do it, he will have a bright future. No highlights video needed.

Real like him, and they want him, lets hope it gets done. They also like Gabriel Obertan, I did a post on young French prospects on my French page, go over there to check him out.

Current Player

Everyone has a hard on for Diego right now, I still remain unconvinced. I have more of a love affair with a little lad from Sevilla named Jesus Navas. He solved our anonymous right wing problem and his creativity cannot be underscored. If he works on his finishing, strength and fear of leaving home, he will be a terrific winger. His price will be high, Del Nido is a jack ass of all jack asses. But it remains a pipe dream, I am sure buying another centrally confined playmaker who blows hot and cold a little less then Guti but has a far stepper temperment (remember his bustup at Porto anyone, or his fighting with teammates at Bremen?) would be a better idea. Sure sure.

Diego Capel is another blossoming talent at Sevilla, but given our left winger riches, he is not needed. Which is too bad.

That One Guy You Would Have No Matter What

Hmmm, I would say either Nasri or Benzema, but that is to obvious. I always liked Edgar Davids, the flowing dreads and tackles flying in, the occasional goal. And he had some sick ball skills, I will attach a video to prove my point. I was obsessed when he played for Juve, I love the guy. But here is who I would honestly want for us that is relevant, Yaya Toure. Thats right, a cule. But lets face it, he is a skillful DM, something Diarra cannot claim to be even though I am a huge fan of his. He would bring calm to a troubled center midfield that we have, and I think we would see a great improvement in the performance of a team who would have a solid platform to build off of, or he could build an attack himself, such is his passing and movement (not to mention his long range shooting).

Oh yes Pitbull!

Alright, so lets see everyone’s three players.

Future Player: I would have loved to see us get Pato, he’s a phenomenal talent with a eye for the goal and the toughness to play for Madrid. I guess he’s not a future player since he’s accumulated quite a few caps this year, but I didn’t expect that at all, and neither did Milan. I don’t know how much of the pitch he would have seen here, but with Ruud going down (just as Ronny did for AC), I would have liked to see him instead of our other options, like the completely worthless Bunny Rabbit.

Current Player We Could Use Now: This is a really tough question since there are a few areas of need: right middie, full-backs across the line (besides Ramos), a solid striker behind the top two. I’d love to see a big, tough player in the middle to shore up the defense more than anything. A brute who’s not afraid to mix it up, ESPECIALLY ON SET PIECES, where we are dismal. I like the Yaya pick, but I think I’d like to have Michael Essien back.

Current Player I’d have no matter what: As much as I hate him, Cristiano Ronaldo. Seriously, the dude has it all. Little Lionel Messi and Kaka give him a run for the best player in the world, but right now, I’d take Ronaldo. I feel like something special is going to happen everytime he’s on the ball, ESPECIALLY ON THE COUNTER. Holy crap, MAN U RUNS THE FAST BREAK BETTER THAN THE PHOENIX SUNS.

Wooh, great point James. And I do love me some Phoenix Suns, my father converted to being a Suns fan 2 years ago because he was tired of the Celtics being crap and all the sudden they are good again… But while Ronaldo is a little bitch and dresses like a qweahhh, he is a very good player, one of the top in the world no doubt, and he would go a long way with us. Thing is, would he play on the right, cause he wont play on the left. I know he is naturally right sided be he switches so often which is what makes him effective, he loses markers by being all over the field. It is more likely that we get Quaresma right now, but he is the poor mans Ronaldo.

As for Essien, I considered him, but he is not a good DM. He is a great CM, but we have so many players there, Gago Baptista Sneijder even Guti that its hard to add another.

You can’t have Toure. Sorry. No way. I have a major man-crush on him and you can’t have him. I will find you and break you if you even think about it! Grrr.

I would love Benzema and Fabregas. I love those guys. I think Kolo Toure would be a great pickup too. He is such a rock for Arsenal. Berbatov seems like the complete striker, great at hold-up play and in open space. Philip Lahm at leftback.

I disagree on Essien, I think he plays a pretty damn good DM for Chelsea. He even plays the back line for them and does an admirable job at it. For Ghana, he’s of course a focal point for the offense too, hence his CM skills, but with more talented teammates, i think he’s best in a holding role.

his best form was enjoyed while at Lyon, where he scored goals more often and was overall a more complete player. And at this time he was partnered with Diarra. So Diarra does defensive duty, Essien helps out on both defense and attack, he is a perfect “double pivot” canidate. His price should not be to high, but I doubt Chelsea will want to let go.

OK we need wingers and fullbacks – we need width badly – Diego Capel and Dani Alves. We need a striker and fast – Mara Villa and Luis Fabiano. A young strike force with La Liga experience. We need Cesc in the mid (Dream pick). I think I answered your questions. =)

Future player(s): Granero and De la Red. I just can’t help it. I want to see our youth flourish. But don’t make me choose between the two, I keep going back and forth.

Current Player: Karim Benzema. No question.

All time player: Messi is tainted, Ronaldo’s a twat, Totti’s a poof… I would consider Kaka but… I’m going to go with Iker Casillas.

Oh, I forgot the explanations. Granero and De la: We just don’t have room for them right now. I suppose we could try out Grenaro and the right wing, and elisa is absolutely right, we need width – but Balboa can give us that, he just isn’t used often enough. Both players have tremedous potential, and like I said, they’ve been brought up through the team, which I love.

Benzema: You’re right Corey, it’s too obvious. But too obvious to deny, in my opinion. I am just incredibly impressed by this kid’s skill, specifically his hunger for the back of the net, and his bravery in trying to get clear to it. Right now I really think our team is talented, and should be winning games, but as I’ve pointed out before, they just don’t have that forward instinct. Benzema does, and he’s damn good at it. We need a player who can be fed forward towards goal, but can also push the ball forward himself. Enough said.

    As for Cas

…illas: I honestly rank him as the best goaltender in the world, a Madridista lifer, the reason we’re contending for a second straight title. I know we already have him, and will most likely never lose him, but if I have to pick one player in the world to be on the pitch in white, it’s still Casillas
