Real Looking at Some Prospects for Next Season

By: Corey | March 16th, 2009

Here is a look at a few players that Real has either signed, scouted recently, or is rumored to be interested in signing, as well as a special treat, a little blurb on one of our own exciting prospects in the cantera system.
___________________________________________________________________________________

- Real Madrid are again being touted as the likely destination for Dani Aquino. The boy genius, who is playing his second season in Murcia’s first team at the age of 18, has been playing well again recently and many are saying that Real scouts have come to see him on numerous occassions and believe he has what it takes to succeed.

Original article can be found here.
__________________________________________________________________________________

- Real may look to sign Atletico Madrid’s 16-year-old midfielder Sergio Marcos who is a free agent in the summer. The u-17 Spanish international is definitely a good prospect, and has been touted as a possible recruit for Chelsea and Arsenal, but whether he fits into what Real needs in the youth teams is still unknown. I suppose if he is available then it makes sense to go for him, but he is an Atletico player, so that make put off the fans. Then again, Claudio Giraldez moved across town last summer from Castilla to Atletico B, so it is possible.
___________________________________________________________________________________

- Real Madrid are chasing Corinthians attacking midfielder Sidcley Ferreira Pereira.

The 18 year-old’s agent, Franck Assuncao, has been courting interest from Italy ahead of the summer market.

However, it’s emerged that Real had sent a fax to Corinthians two weeks ago to ask about Sidcley’s availability this week.
__________________________________________________________________________________

- Real Madrid have agreed a deal for Ecuadorian youngster Jefferson Montero.

The 19 year-old midfielder currently plays for Ecuadorian Second Division outfit Independiente Jose Teran and confirmed: “Everything has been defined, it only remains for me to appear in Madrid to sign the documents and get to my new team.”

Montero will begin his Real career with the club’s Castilla team. Good luck Jefferson!
___________________________________________________________________________________

- The Bender twins, who are 19 year old German youth internationals, both play central midfield for 1860 Munich. They impressed at the u-19 Euro last summer where such players as Savio Nserko, Benedict Howedes, Richard Sakutu-Pasu and Maxim Choupo-Moting starred in a great German team that beat Spain for the cup.

Both have already played several games for the first team in the German Second Division, with Lars recording 51 games with 1860, as well as 4 goals, since debuting in 2006 as a 17 year old. His brother Sven has played 59 times, and scored 1 goal after also debuting as a 17 year old. They are both bright prospects, so lets hope we can sign one or two of them.
___________________________________________________________________________________

- Real are looking at Newcastle’s young talent Vickic, who is 16 and has not yet played for Newcastle. I do not know to much about this kid, other then he cant be bad if he has already played for two teams at the age of 16. Look him up and see what you can find. Also in the article I read was a mention that Sidcley may have already signed with the team, and that Real has been scouting Ligue 2 defender Bruno Ecuele Manga, who plays for Angers. He is a 20 year old who is being watched by several clubs in France, but Real may be looking to sign him for the Casilla team for next season if they do not sign Gary on a permanent deal, and if Mussachio from River Plate does not pan out.
___________________________________________________________________________________

- Neymar, “the next Robinho’, for a rather dubious comparison, has scored his first professional goal for Santos this past week. He is of course a very talented young player, and someone Real has scouted before, but his skills have caught the eye of the usual host of big name European teams. Of course I do not expect a transfer to take place until he is atleast 18, it must be said that Real is the front runner for his signature at this point, as they have great relations with the Santos management. A highlights clip of Neymar:

___________________________________________________________________________________

- I would like to highlight the talents of Real Madrid’s own Derik Osede, who is currently playing in the Cadete A team. He is a Spanish u-16 international who has tremendous potential as a physical commanding central defender. Here is a video from airfutbol.com to assess his talents:

Interesting article Corey. However, I am struggling to understand why Real would try and sign these players when they have a poor track record in recent years of promoting their own cantera?

I posted on an article you did after the CL match re cantera you have let go in Mata, Granero, Negredo et al and if you don’t trust players of that calibre again I am struggling to understand investing in other players of potential?

You already have some decent players at Castilla in Chema Anton, David Mateos, Palanca, Alberto Bueno, Adam Salzi and have many games have the accumulated between them this season?

To be honest I wouldn’t be surprised to see them move on in the summer to get first team football in La Liga at clubs like Mallora, Getafe etc. You only need to look at a recent graduate in Callejon who moved on in the summer and scored yeterday for Espanyol as an example.

Also if the stories of Florentino Perez coming back are true what chance do the above named have if the curent cantera aren’t getting a chance? Did he give the cantera their chance last time he was in charge (and don’t give me the Pavons and Zidanes story)?

I think Real need to look at their rivals and see the cantera playing at the Camp Nou week in week out as an example.

Just look at how many current canteras are playing in Valdes, Puyol, Pique, Victor Sanchez, Busquests, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Boja, Pedro etc and it makes you laugh at Real (no offence to readers).

If you have a good prospect give him a chance in the first team instead of signing joe averages. Don’t you think Palanca should’ve been given a chance ahead of Fabuert?

If I was a cantera at Real i’d be looking to move on to pastures new in the summer i’m afraid or if I was being chased (like you have stated in your article) i’d think twice about going to the current Real setup!

I also read a story (forgot where i’m sorry) that Salzi could be on his way to Dortmund in the summer. Anyone have any further details regarding this story?

Szalai is being pursued by Dortmund, I have seen that mentioned. I think that he doesnt have a chance at Real unfortunately, and its pretty sad. He will probably move at the end of the season, along with 6-8 Castilla players.

I am unsure as to what Perez is going to do. I know he will bring in a few big name players, but I think that besides 2-3 of those caliber players, he will indeed continue a ‘Zidanes and Pavons’ policy, only slightly tweaked. If he brings Zidane in to some capacity with the youth setup, I feel that it is an intention to use the youth system more. Real has always spent on big names throughout its history, but its also filled in the majority of the squad with youth team players. Lets hope a fine balance of the two can be struck, because I honestly believe half the Castilla team has what it takes to play in La Liga, if not the Champions League, either for us or another Spanish team.

I think Real need to stabilize the team before giving youth players a chance. In order for a young player to click, you need to create the right atmosphere in the first team:

    - Experienced quality starters for the young players to learn from. No offense, but if you have the best Left back in the cantera, I don’t really recommend that you promote him to the first team to learn from Heinze. That will be a crime and its better to sell him and rescue his bright future. Or buy the “right” left back first.

    - When you promote a young breed, you need to make sure you will not be forced to hook any heavy responsibilities on his shoulders at least for 2 years. The team must be clicking already through the accomplished names, they seal the deal, then he (the young one) gets the chance and time to mature. If the team is in crises it will turn to become the oven where you burn an talents you promote with the objective of fixing problems.

With the new 6+5 rule that may take place soon if the EU approved it (they are rejecting it till now), I am not sure if its smart to buy more unaccomplished none domestic talents to the cantera or even to the first team.

One thing for sure, even though Real Madrid were BAD (accept it from a rival fan) in dealing with pumping new blood to the first team continuously, yet, I don’t think now is the perfect time to consider the youth players as a corner stone in the re-engineering process.

Even the most excited fans to the idea of counting on cantera products, will not have the patience to wait even for one more season without trophies till the youth get the experience. I think even one lose in el Classico will make the fans lose the sense of direction, and start whistling and cursing till the youth collapse under pressure.

For Real Madrid, I think now its the time to do surgeries, then later on you can talk about nutrition.

I think the simplest way to try these players out is to either loan them out for experience or sell them with a buy back clause (eg De la Red) that way you can see how they cope with the rigours of La Liga and bring them back if needed.
I also think that the players mentioned – Mata, Negredo, Granero etc, still don´t have the quality required for RM particularly in the CL, Barça simply have a better scouting/cantera system. That´s not to say that the players that RM have bought in have been superior in many cases by that I mean Gago, Drenthe, Faubert, Van der Vaart and others.
Finally I am sure you guys keep tab of this very well written blog anyway, but here is a link to a very poignant article which voices why La Liga has been putting up a poor show compared to the English counterpart

nice points, ramzi. never thought i would say this to a cule but dude, you got things spot on for us.

stability is important for young players.and they take time to grow also. we rushed things under perez and it was a snafu.complete one. we are going into the docks this season end and it would be superb if we give the cantera kids some chances.but it might not be a good idea as the situation seems turbulent.

the coach and board would be out on their asses if they tried an arsenal like ‘PROJECT’ at the bernabeu.we just don’t have the word ‘patience’ in our collective lexicon. not saying that its a bad thing.just stating a fact. we need a coach who can deliver the trophies while gradually bringing in youngsters at the same time.someone like del bosque or di stefano or miguel munoz.from his track record at sevilla,it can be expected from juande ramos too.but real madrid is a whole different ball game.

if perez comes in,it will be better if he lets the persons brought onboard do their work instead of poking his nose in all places.we need a good sporting director. and by the looks of it,it seeems that jorge valdano is coming back.

Great reading up about the cantera and future prospects coming through the ranks. I always try to find out lots regarding the next star players in the cantera. Corey if u ever need a little help in the future writing articles about our cantera, i would really like to help out. I dont know as much as you since most info out there is spanish but i do know a bit or so about them. Anyways great job once again Corey with some nice tidbits about the young players.

Yes, definitely mucho props to Corey, I don’t know how the hell you find out this stuff from the left side of the Atlantic.

I’m not sure what the right way forward is, esp since Perez is indeed the frontrunner for the president’s position. Let’s face it, we haven’t exactly turned away from the “Zidanes y Pavones” school of team management – in fact, it’s worse now because we’re not even getting the Zidane level players like Figo, Ronaldo, Beckham, maybe a case could be made for Owen…

But the Z+P’s seems to insist that we are only producing Pavon-level players at our cantera, which is of course patently absurd. However, the last 7-8 years has indeed proven this to be true.

i think, ideally, we should be graduating 1 cantera player per year into the first team. We’ve obviously gone missing the past few years, though i wonder how much of that is bad policies of the current first team, bad coaching in the cantera from the past few years, or bad scouting from 7-8 years ago. Maybe it’s a combination of them, who knows.

Thanks Steve, I am getting confused having two Steve’s from the UK, I could has sworn you already commented, haha. The way forward is anyones guess, but when the candidates declare, we will see what their way forward is. Besides the promising of star players, they will have to put real plans forward. If Perez focuses on rebuilding the financial and marketing/image of the club, it means he is the candidate I want.

Donovan- Help is always appreciated. Shoot me an email at cnfiske@gmail.com if you have any info or an article you would like me to publish for you. I have done it before for john and a few other people.

I know it sounds stupid but why can’t Real take a look at Villarreal as an example of how to run a succssful club.

They have limited finances but have still (through sound management at all levels) been able to put together a squad to compete for a CL place and in that prestigious tournament over the past few seasons.

Recently they have invested heavily in their various youth teams and one of their cantera (his name eludes me at this moment) made his debut on Sunday due to Javi Venta being sent off.

A lot of their cantera are internationals at various levels and their B teams looks on course to gain promotion to La Segunda.

How often do you see their chairman in the news? How often is their manager in the news? For that matter how much interfence does he face?

He has been there for 5 years now, brought stability, European football, and a good team to a very small town.

I know Real are a different kettle of fish to Villarreal but you get the jist of what i’m trying to say. If they can do it then surely you can?

labomba, i’d have to say that against liverpool, if we couldve brough on mata for robben at half time, negredo for raul/higuain and throw granero n there somewhere, we would have made a better game of it…in terms of attacking depth, our bench is shit, and i’d welcome those players back with open arms if i could…hell, negredo and mata are on the borders of the national team right now.

Maxwell’s agent’s been mouthing off about him “definitely” leaving Inter in the summer…i’ve always liked the look of him, although he is not great defensively. Just as long as we have a replacement for Heinze, i’ll be happy

Just reading a few transfer gossip today and again the news that Arsenal are interested in signing our star cantera player Pablo Sarabia. Apparently arsenal had scouts at a spain U17 game played last night and the only goal scored was from Sarabia. This kid is really something special and it wont be long until we see him challenging for a first team spot. I hope he stays at the club and just tell arsenal to piss off. There rumours have come up in the past with arsenal refusing to give up. I HAVE ARSENAL. I really hope they dont finish in the top 4 of the league this year and miss out on CL football next year.

Sorry Sambit, I think we´ll have to agree to disagree on that one, bringing on those cantera players against Liverpool wouldn´t have made an iota of difference in my opinion. For CL you need world class quality and team understanding. Gago was really found out, Lass just scraped through with dignity and Casillas well, he´s just San Casillas, all the rest were below CL standard, end of.

Hey Corey, yeah, i can definitely see it being a bit confusing with the other Steve. You can separate us by hovering over the name. If it links to soccermanager.com, it’s not me.

Anyway, i just came across this article, and there was a throw-away line at the beginning which asserts that Real Madrid’s cantera had more graduates on European top-flight clubs last season than any other club. Second, according to the author, was French club Metz. Is this true? I couldn’t find any info to substantiate it.
