Real Madrid 1-0 Barcelona

By: Corey | December 24th, 2007

Oh how bitter sweet victory tastes.

Im in the midst of the holiday season, so i will keep this brief. Real won, we played fairly well, Pepe and Baptista were great and did I mention we beat Barca at the Camp Nou. Post match comments, enjoy. Ill be back after Christmas.

The Beast: This was a great game, one impossible to forget,” he told the club’s official website after the game.

“I felt great. My goal was important, but this isn’t an individual victory, but a triumph of the entire team.

“We won thanks to the unselfishness of every player and the great team effort we all did.

“I felt something extraordinary collectively speaking and something impossible to describe on a personal level.”

“That was naturally one of the most important goals in my life and I know I will never be able to forget it.

“I am very satisfied with it and with the victory, but we must remember we haven’t won anything yet.”

“We have to continue fighting hard in every game in order to be at the very top in all three competitions.

“It is symbolic and beautiful to be winter champions, but there is still a long way to go in the League.”

Gabi Milito: We were unable to recover after their goal. In the second half they took advantage of their counter-attacks very well,” Milito explained.

“They were very well positioned and they worked very hard to keep us from finding a way through to their goal.”

“The defeat is hard and it hurts. But the teams that win titles are the ones that no how to overcome hard times. I believe in the team.

“They are seven points clear, but I still think there is a long way to go and we must not lose faith.”

“It is sad because the team came from a very good run and we have won all our other home games comfortably.”

“Everyone who was out there tried everything we could. Maybe we have not played our best game, but I have a clear conscience knowing that we gave it our all,” he continued.

“We expected Madrid to play as they did. They closed up their defence well and they used their fast players well on the break.”

Xavi: “Seven points is a lot at this stage of the season, but we have to continue working,” Xavi said.

“They were closed up and played with a lot of comfort and used hte counter-attack. We were not really comfortable at all,” he added.

Iniesta:

“It is a big gap,” he explained. “We expected to be only a point behind them, but there we go. Now we have to start again next year.

“In the first half we had two or three chances in the first half and they scored one and scored.

“I do not know what we were missing, we have tried hard, but they made the difference in the final third and were better.”

Frankie Rijk: “The reality of Madrid is that they are very strong. As a team they worked very well and also going forward.” Rijkaard explained.

“They were very well positioned and their defence has put the brakes on our team and they created danger on the counter attack.

“I thought we would equalise until the last moment because I saw the attitude of our players was good.”

“It is a costly defeat, but I think we have to carry on, to take this in and then move forward with our aims,” he continued.

“We tried everything. We played well, but now we have to continue working hard and still believe that anything is possible.

“There are still a lot of games left.”

Berndie Schuster: It is important to speak of the entire team,” he said. “The players worked together, and have won this together. It has been a real team victory.”

“I do not like to reduce a game to a battle between the two coaches,” he insisted, when asked if he had out-thought Frank Rijkaard.

“All I will say is that it has been a just and deserved win. We picked up a good result against great opponents.

“Barcelona were never really very close to our goal, and we forced them to go wide.

“I think it is a real positive that it is the first time Barcelona have not scored at home.”

And some transfer tidbits, Soldado wants a move to Benfica, but only in the summer. And Stephen Sunday, hugely talented Valencia central midfield stud, was not axed by Ronald Koeman like Albelda and co. But he has been left out of games even with a few players completely axed, so maybe theres a chance to take him off their hands. But I am not Mijatovic, so I dont get to make these moves. To bad to. Adios.
