Real Madrid Castilla - Youth Squad Overview

By: Corey | August 13th, 2007

I want to give you ladies and gentlemen are closer look at the youth setup at Real Madrid. Granted the official website has not been updated with youth team info in awhile, but I have special sources and will give you a quick run down of the highlights.

Castilla

Currently playing in La Segunda, it is impressive that they are in the second division, no other youth team is althoug Malaga B was a few years ago. Seeing as how Barcelona B got relegated to amateur level, this is an impressive feat, and even though they lose more games then they win, they have stayed up but every year is a relegation battle. This is because the team comprised completely of players under 21 with a few exceptions, playing against professional teams. Here are a few players that have caught the eye.

Alberto Bueno
Besides tremendous outings with Spains youth squads, he has caught the eye with assurred performances and has made the jump up to the full squad this year, but expect him to go back down eventually for another year of refining. His potential is like Soldado, and Morientes before him. Lets hope he sticks around, and doesnt go to Valencia like his strike partner since he was in diapers, Juan Manuel Mata.

Rayco, Thaer, and Negredo
Negredo played for the full squad a few times last year under Capello, and they are all sorta wingers sorta strikers. If theres injuries look for one of them to be called up, my favorite is Thaer, he is Jordanian by origin and very skillfull. Look for Negredo to move on soon though unfortunately, he wont sit in the youth squad for too long. After some further research it seems that Thaer is no longer with us, likewise Negredo.

Mosquera
Dont know much about him, heard good things.

Adrian Gonzalez, De La Red, Esteban Granero, and Javi Garcia
All good midfield players, all but Javi Garcia are in the first team right now. I do not understand Javi Garcia not being brought up, he was more impressive then Granero at the U-20 WC.

Adrian Gonzalez

Spain vs Brazil U-20 WC, Javi Garcia, Diego Capel (drool), and Granero i think

Marcos Tebar
Defensive mid maybe, he has been touted as having potential and was once part of the first team squad on FIFA 2005. May have plataued and will need to move on.

Rafeal Santacruz
Wont make it to the first team, Miguel Torres Gomez already has.

Jeffrey
We bought him at 18 from Holland and after that I have been in the dark. I really dont know what is going on with him, but he is 23 now, older then me, so maybe he was let go. Who knows…

Palencia, Agus, Sergio Alejandro
If you remember a few years back Palencia played against Sevilla and sucked, so his chances of making it back up are slim. Agus played against Depor in the Terressa Herrera Trophy and did ok, but not great. Sergio Alejandro was suppose to be the pick of the bunch but no news on him.

Cordina, Casilla and Adan
Cordina has been called up, he is good, real good. Kiko Casilla is too, but I think Adan has the most potential here. He will start for Castilla for a few years and then be moved up.

Ok so I investigated further and this is what I came up with for Real Madrid Castilla:
http://www.realmadrid.com/plantilla/castilla/portada_esp.htm

Schorch is an interesting name, but half of those players I know nothing about, and half the guys I talked about here are not on that list. So either I did alot of hard work for nothing or they are on loan somewhere. Please enlighten me, because it looks like there was a major clear out here.

Callejon brothers, Jose Manuel
Callejon brothers are strikers/wingers, while Jose Manuel is technically to old for this group and I assume is with Castilla but is still listed under C. Brothers have talent, may get bumped up to Castilla soon.

Antonio Montiel, Ruben Dario
They both look like promising central midfielder, Montiel being Peruvian I believe. Anyways, I like both, and I expect they can both move up if theres a clearing out in the Castilla ranks (7 youth players have moved up this year already).

David Mateos, Javier Velayos, Jordi Figueras, Daniel Garcia Ortega
All 4 should make it to Castilla soon, and Mateos may be the next CB promoted to the full squad, while Ortega is an interesting left back.

Felip Ramos
Did well for Spain in the u-19 euro championships before getting injured, another one in a long line of talented keeprs.

Assorted Young Guys
These guys are listed under different categories, but they stick out like sore thumbs with their potential.

Denis Tcheryshev
Good striking prospect, only 18 but may be with Castilla as we speak.

Lionel Franck
Another good striking prospect, I believe he is originally from the Cameroon.

David Moreno
I remember watching a youtube video of him when he was 15, he was incredible. Well he is now 16, and if I were Madrid id have him in Castilla, his dribbling and movement is incredible.

Thats all I know, anyone has any info on players feel free to let me know, Im all ears.

I remember Lyon were interested in one of Madrid’s youth players a while back - would you have any idea which one?

Jeffrey, you mean the Jeffrey that Barca B got after you released him to try to make up for our horrible defence only to release him after we were relegated? Don’t think you will be seeing much of him.

One of Ghana’s young players who featured prominently in the FIFA U17 in Korea Daniel Opare was said to have signed a six year deal with Real Madrid. Does any one know if this kid is really with Real Madrid. If so has he featured for any of the youth or reserve teams ?
