Real vs. Juventus Peace Cup GolTV 4:30pm
By: Corey | July 31st, 2009Real takes on Juventus in the Peace Cup semifinals at the Sanchez Pijuan today at 4:30pm eastern time on GolTV and with possible streams here and here. This marks the biggest test Real has faced so far this season, although it will not be the last as Real still as the Santiago Bernabeu trophy against Milan August 5th, two friendlies in the US (!!!!), Real Sociedad’s centenary match and then probably a scrimmage or two against Castilla or a local side. But this game is a clear shot at the title, with Aston Villa and Porto making up the other semifinal, and neither looking as good as Juventus.
This match may be a tad to early in Real’s preseason for the team to get anything out of it, but it will be a great tune up match. I am not expecting a win, but it would be nice. Real’s squad for the match consists of:
Goalkeepers
Dudek, Adan
Defenders
Salgado, Pepe, Marcelo, Agus, Metzelder, Torres
Midfielders
Gago, Lass, Sneijder, Robben, Guti, Drenthe, Granero
Forwards
Raul, Cristiano Ronaldo, Higuain, Benzema, Negredo
Heinze, Huntelaar and VDV are left out for technical reasons, while the Confed Cup crew and Arbeloa are left in Madrid to train further. We will probably see all of those players when they come to the United States next weekend, which will be awesome.
I have not found Juventus’s site very helpful in getting their squad list, but we will get to see Diego, Cannavaro and Del Piero play so that will be nice. Leave your comments on the match here, and I will have a review of the match up tomorrow morning, as I am home for a few weeks and have some stuff to do tonight. HALA MADRID!!!

true, i have no idea were i read he was 30, but i just checked wiki and it said 27, thanks andres…
I think robben was too fragile to be played in that game… would have chattered his glass
Pitch was bad (thats my excuse to why pipita didnt control the ball well ) something to still convince me he is amazing!

Btw, from the looks of it, we should have done business with arsenal, they are obviously willing to sell!!

he doesn’t want to come to us, but you never know, he might change his mind… too expensive for us now though…

well cesc never really ruled out coming to us , he always say that he is flattered by our offers thats why so many cules dont like him but i personally think xabi alonso is a better CM than he is , he is younger tho and might get better in the future

Relax, guys. Kaka will change the tempo in the middle, and if the Xabi Alonso deal happens, you’ll be set. I wouldn’t start worrying until the transfer window closes.
That “tackle” on Thong Boy was horrific. Michael Owen took a nasty one too, against Bayern. Man, now I see why we’re touring America against MLS sides….those guys don’t take stuff so seriously.

well am very sad about the result but its only a friendly. We must now focus no practicing set piece and defending because thats our weakness.

I HATE JUVE!!!!
And yeah, we shouldn’t start fretting about these results till our spanish boys come back and kaka too.Posted from

Well said Kxevin, this is bad for a preseason game. Aside from that, I’m taking positives from the game that they didn’t threaten our goal too much, except from set pieces, which i believe with M. Diarra and Ramos, would be back to top shape.
We are going to the US soon!

oh and Vokenic, I totally agree with you, that has been the case for a while and I hope your right

Sadly, I only got to see the second half but from what I saw I’d say our best performers were Pepe, Drenthe and Ronaldo, the other players were either average or disappointing. Pellegrini should have made some changes earlier I hope that is not a sign of things to come to from him.

Drenthe is really impressing me…at the beginning of the transfer market he was one of the first on my list of departures but he’s convinced me of warranting a place in the squad…now we have options everywhere in defense:
RB: Sergio Ramos, Torres, Arbeloa, Salgado, Lass
CB: Pepe, Albiol, Metzelder, Garay, Sergio Ramos, Arbeloa
LB: Arbeloa, Marcelo, Drenthe, TorresGranero so far has been the signing of the summer, but we all knew of his potential and desire even before we repurchased him. All we need is Xabi Alonso, because our midfield is shithouse.

drenthe is impressing me as well and i think that pellegrini has been impressed by him as well i remember in one of his interviews some reporter asked him if he had changed his mind about some players he wanted to get rid of he said some really surprised him he didnt name names but i think drenthe and metzelder are part of those players who surprised him
as for alonso liverpool now want 40 mil i dont think this deal is gonna happen because we’re not willing to go above 27 mil , and now inter , city and milan are after him too are willing to pay more than we do , florentino needs to stop fucking playing around and wrap this up as quick as possible he is the final piece of the puzzle

We should just give up on Alonso, the asking price is ridiculous and as much as he is a great player and a Spaniard the team has sufficient quality in the central areas. Until Madrid offload VDV or Sneijder or both we should just forget about Alonso.

I agree, Nikkev, they´re just taking the piss. Mostly due to Madrid´s pathetic negotiating techniques. If you shout around loudly how ´key´ a player is to your team obviously the selling side will up the price, a 5 year old could get a better deal selling his second hand Lego.
Benitez would then annoyingly go to nutty old Llorente at Valencia and say… ´look into my eyes, look into my eyes…. you will sell me Silva for 15 million´and probably get away with it!Posted from

Re last nights defeat – comfortingly Ronaldo looked better, and limping back to finish the match will have impressed a hell a lot of fans as well as myself. I still think he needs to score or assist a few though to make his mark as he still looks like he´s playing to make his mark rather than for the team. Ditto Benzema who had Raúl and Granero in space but tried to score for himself. Well that´s what preseason is for, I suppose.
Also, what´s happened to Lass? Thank goodness Diarrá is coming back to fight for his place as Lass (apart from afore mentioned needless dribbling) is losing control of the ball big time, in dangerous areas. Remember the Liverpool goal anyone? Not to mention fouling all and sundry.Posted from

Or the terrible control that allowed xavi to steal the ball from him and laid it off for messi for barca’s 3rd or 4th in clasico I’ve been saying since forever that M.diarra is the way to go but no one agreed till recently don’t get me wrong lass is good but diarra is better
Nikkev we need a CM that can both defend and make those killer passes and neither sneijder or VDV could do that that’s why we NEED Alonso but labomba is right our negotiation tactics has gotten us in this mess
Ahhhh shit only if granero could defend as well as he could attack then we’d be set or if de la red didn’t have heart problemsPosted from

Andrés don´t start the ´if only´routine yet, pleeeease the season hasn´t started yet-
I spent the whole of last season ´if onlying´Ruud and Diarrá getting injured, Messi, Xavi and Iniesta NOT getting injured, Schuster skipping the basic defence classes, the midfield forgetting the difference between horizontal and vertical, Sneijder not noticing where his team mates were with his one touch passing (ditto other team members namely Gago)Raul (or should we say Baúl now we´re on the nickname thing) doing his headless chicken thing….blah blah blah
Let´s wait till the season starts, shall we!Posted from

Haha labomba trust me man we’ve all been throught that last season let’s hope its that other team we shall not name that goes throught it this season !

Real madrid will look like a 2nd rate team once the liga is underway (dnt get me wrong am as big a fun of blancos as any of u) bt come november we will b a force of distruction, it will b orgasmic watchng them when they gel, bt 4 now b patient, calm down, n stp try’n 2 pretend u knw better than pelle (dnt let friendly result gt ur nerves)

Looks like Real and Inter have reached an agreement regarding Sneijder, he’ll be loaned to Inter, but he still has to approve the deal, so we’ll have to wait and see if he leaves…
Posted from

That would suck if it was true , I think sneijder should stay the midfielders that need to be shipped out are gago and VdV

The deal seems to be 4k for the loan deal and then a clause to buy the player for 18k a year later!
Unbelievable, considering he cost 27 million 2 years ago.
Why would you agree such a figure? Surely the way to go would allow him to show case his skills at Inter and then try to recoup your outlay.
I agree with Andres, Gago should go, especially if another defensive mid comes in like Alonso.
Let’s just hope it’s journo clap trapPosted from
