Eh yo Jake, Messi's chip was incredible, especially because it was one of the TWO goals he scored for the whole entire tournament. TWO goals does not equal domination no matter how you spin it, ok unless you mean he dominated the hype and media coverage. In that same COPA AMERICA Messi couldn't even score against the USA B-team, yes, I'll repeat - Messi couldn't even score against the USA B-team = wow, he's the man!!! Messi's hype far outdistanced his numbers last year, ROBINHO outscored him in LA LIGA 11 to 10 and outplayed him in the Champions League with 4 goals and 4 assists compared to Messi's 6 goals and ZERO assists. At the end of the day, they are pretty evenly matched, the only difference so far is that Robinho wins more titles as a starter while Messi gets better press!!

Very true....many of my friends are atletico de madrid and barca fans and they hate Real, of course the cules get to enjoy more than "los indios" (atletico fans) but they truly follow the notion that their club represents equality and justice while Real are the evil empire...whatever the case is, they expend all their energy in giving explanations why their team lost and how much they hate Real as opposed to a simple and relaxed grin on my face...priceless

jake,if u r using d copa america as an example robinho won hands down over messi there.robinho had a good 2007.beginning wid the 2nd half of 2006-07 season and ending with his injury.and he is still growing.messi is not but he is at the moment a more complete player than robinho.note,at the moment.i would say that they are equal potential wise but messi while he is out of d doc's clutches rarely has a poor game while robinho while explosive in his purple patch is still rather inconsistent.neways i think dat d who is better debate will never end just like the which is d best club debate.real would b d best for me even if dey get demoted to segunda b{dats impossible though} while for a fan of a smaller club his own club would always b d best.same for players.i can rant forever about how d real madrid team of de stefano, puskas nd gento was d gr8est to have set foot on a football pitch while other can do the same for others.same case here.estoverao, being in his his own words,a robinho die-hard will always c him better dan messi nd vice-versa.neways keep d debate going, folks.its quite interesting.

As much that i argue that messi is a better player "today" than messi, ill repeat that i expect a lot more from the brazilian. He has the talent to be among the top 5 of the world but he needs to set off, he's still somewhat developing and its time to deliver what is expected. Funny you mentioned the match vs olympiacos, since i was sitting in the first row, enjoying every move from robinho's feet, marvelous match...but its olympiacos, Real didnt pass Roma who are the underdogs vs man u which doesnt leave Real anywhere near where they should inherently be. However teams develop after going through a catharsis and Real has paid its dues, the florentino era is over, capello whipped 'em in shape and now Schuster will have the team he is looking for.

Regarding your question about kaka, CR and Messi....their respective teams except Milan this year reached semis...and kaka has done enough for a team that has aged and who's managers are relying on players who offer a 50% chance of recovering their former shape.

estoverao, if you read any Messi interview in which he is compared to Maradona, he clearly doesn't like the comparisons, and doesn't think he is Maradona. And Messi didn't even play in the next round, so you can't blame him for Barca not going through. Also, a match with Olympiakos is hardly the "big stage". Even though its still a Champions league match, surely Getafe are a stronger team than Olympiakos. And if you watched the whole Copa America, Messi dominated the tournament, but the whole team played poorly in the final. Could Robinho have scored Messi's chip goal against Mexico? No, because he simply isn't good enough. Robinho is a great player, but just not at Messi's level. Messi was runners up in world player of the year, and while Robinho was on the shortlist, he didn't have a chance of making the top three. And everyone knew it.

Sorry for the rant, but Messi is the Barca golden boy :)

That Messi goal against Getafe proves my point, it was an outstanding goal but in the Copa del Rey??, BARCA didn't even advance to the next round. If he really thinks he is MARADONA let him go to NAPOLI and deliver them the Serie A title, he can't even get a title with BARCELONA as a starter or ARGENTINA when they clearly had the better team in the COPA AMERICA 2007. On the big stage Robinho always shows up(unless he is injured), whether with goals or assist or making the play that leads to the goal. Question - Did MESSI, C.RONALDO or KAKA dominate a do or die must win Champions League game for their team last year like ROBINHO did against OLYMPIAKOS? If so which game?

"Robinho scores and assists regularly while your unfortunate “untouchables” are extremely ONE DIMENSIONAL"

And that's just fine, there are 11 players per team and if each fullfills their duty, despite being one dimensional, that's what is expected from each one. Im not going to argue against you that robinho is a critical player but i cant say he's untouchable, Raul nowadays is more touchable than others but lets remember who he is, the commitment he shows day after day (his off ball movement is far more important than any other on the team for those who understand the game well, will agree that Raul opens spaces for others to get through) and what he's achieved at the bernabeu, he sort of reminds me of what francesco totti resembles for Roma.

Robinho has been the best for his national team but BRasil is not a shadow of its former shape, Argentina has extremely competitive players which make it a bit harder than brazil, in my opinion of course.
Im really surprised to see anyone compare robinho with messi, at first sight ill say the brazilian has quicker footwork and displays perfect dribbling skills but mess finishes off the plays and there is no possible way to question his individual ability note-look up in youtube his maradona goal vs getage last year...simply amazing, videogame style. Also another point of comparison between both is how their respective teams develop without their presence, Barca clearly dropped without the argentinian while Real has managed to stay afloat and even open a new via for Robben who's passed Robinho towards the end of the season. Im not going to imply the dutch is better than Robinho, it could be a simple good run but the starter is open to debate, in messi's case, there is no discussion at all.

Like i said Real need robinho and i wish him to stay, only leaving a possible departure due to CR but id still keep him, if he doesnt show considerable improvement this year then i wouldnt hesitate a minute in selling him since he's had enough time to develop and we all have witnessed how much time it takes a player's market price to devaluate!
