Sensational Move Pedja!
By: Corey | July 25th, 2008
This is from the credible source of espnsoccernet, and a few publications in Germany and Spain, it appears Real has grown tired of waiting for CRon to leave Manchester or not, they have gone ahead and put a six million euro offer to Hamburg for Rafeal Van de Vaart. Hamburg’s Sporting Director Dietmar Beiersdorfer referred to the offer as derisory, and refused to open negotiations.
6 million euros??? It seems like its a little short of his value doesnt it. Will consider this, based on clauses in Van de Vaarts contract, he will be allowed to leave for 1 million euros next summer. Even though his contract expires in 2010. So my question to Hamburg is, what the hell where you thinking? With such a clause, you basically rated your tailsman as worth 1 million euros. So a year from this point, do you expect to get 30 million for him?
Now whether this is good or bad business remains to be seen. Calderon, Mijatovic, Portugal and even Schuster are very coy over there interest in the player, as the Ronaldo saga has dominated headlines. But he is a good player, a player I like, but I doubt he is what we need for the right side of midfield. He, like Guti, is best centrally, so putting him on the right will only see him drift infield. But a player of his quality for 6 million euros? Why not.
I doubt it will be 6 million, it remains to be seen if Real comes back with another offer, in the ball park of 10-15. Or if they say to themselves, the precedent has been set in the contract, so we will wait a year to get our man for next to nothing. There have been reports that Rafeal already agreed personal terms awhile ago, but I never reported it cause Rafeal himself said that wasnt true. No, I didnt contact him, but he spoke of his distaste for the rumors that linked him one week with Real, the next week with Atletico. More I am sure will be coming of this story, stay tuned for more info.
I wouldnt mind some Sylvie Van de Vaart in Madrid either ehhh… If Rafeal signs, there will be a weekly segment dedicated to Sylvie. I cant wait!

So, is Rafael meant to replace Guti and link up with Sneijder in the centre of midfield? I wonder how this fits in with Guti’s ‘for life’ contract that he signed last April…

good post — i’m an hsv fan, so i thought i’d give you our perspective:
first, a quibble: the amount he can go for next summer is €1.5m, not €1m. still WAY less than vdv is worth, but hey. and as for that clause hamstringing our negotiations, i’m not too worried about that. he’s a good enough player, and enough clubs will be interested in him, that i don’t think it’ll be hard for us to get people to bid more than they “have to” for his services. barca may realize that life post-ronaldinho is a bit tougher than anticipated, and decide to buy another marquee playmaker; or chelsea may start to worry about ballack’s age and try to find a replacement; or any number of other teams may decide they want him (like real!).
an important thing to bear in mind, though, is that part of our deal with ajax when we got vdv from them was that whatever amount we eventually sold him for, they’d get 20%. so we’d only keep four fifths of that €6m, which honestly is less than he’s worth to us in a season — especially if, without him, we don’t make the UEFA cup. our club’s stated asking price is €20m, which seems fair, and is no doubt negotiable.
my guess, and probably most people’s guess, is that discussions will continue at the emirates cup the weekend of august 2, which both real and hsv are playing at (along with juve and arsenal). i’d be a little surprised if we let him go for €10m, but i can see €15m happening pretty easily.
as for the question of how he fits in at real, i’m a little unsure, too. is guti your usual playmaker? where does sneijder usually play? i agree with you that vdv wouldn’t be ideally placed on a wing.
and finally, even if this deal does go through, fine — you can have rafael. BUT DON’T YOU DARE TAKE OUR SYLVIE!!

Don is right on the money. A year ago at this time (and in January too) his price was in the €15-20m range, which is reasonable considering the market, his age, etc. Speculation is that, if a deal is going to be completed, it will happen in London at the Emirates Cup-thingy next week.
I am hoping that nothing happens, because the longer this drags out, the less our chance of replacing him before January with a quality player. I feel that HSV are willing to go into the season with VDV and snap up one of the CL spots in the Bundesliga and then let him walk, hoping that they make more from qualifying for the CL than they would with VDV’s transfer. A big gamble, to be sure, but in that case everybody wins–VDV gets a fat payday because he carried a side like HSV to the CL on his back, and HSV gets the CL money. And if they don’t make it, he will likely be viewed as having failed to carry them to the CL and his value on the market will be zip anyway, so the club doesn’t lose a lot of money in that case.

Yes, we should definitely get VDV, look at his lady! God I would love to see Sylvie Van de Vaart at every game in Madrid, that is a smoking piece of ass. PAY THE MAN PEDJA!

Its being reported that the deal will be sealed soon for 13 million. Dont know if this is before or after the Emirates Cup, but if this does go through it will be one of the best buys Real have ever made.

Partly because Rafeal is a great player, but also because for 13 million we also get Sylvie!!!! HAHA YESSSS!

Its been highly questioned to place guti and sneider together, sometimes it has worked and others they have both gotten in each others’ turf. Guti needs space and a good back defensive midfielder to cover him, the rest its all him, the ball flows around when he’s present. Sneider on the other hand is effective by getting rid of the ball fast and looking for a good central position at the top of the box to either look for the last pass or drill his power shot, guti is less likely to take shots but is far more accurate when assessing difficult passes.
It looks like schuster wants ball possessos to install his ideology, he is desperate for possession. It makes me wonder if the german is going to assemble a team similar to spain (with three ball handlers) or have a couple good substitutes he may come in too expensive to be subsitutes!
CR is still our bet and Man U’s interest in signing tevez and berbatov perhaps (some mention also villa) show a clearer opportunity for CR to arrive at the bernabeu. Usually teams that win CL tounraments do not spend too much the following season which is opposite to what we are witnissing….
