Some Soundbites on El Clasico

By: Corey | December 19th, 2007

El Clasico is coming up obviously, so everyone and their three armed cousin has a say in who will win. Here are some notables for your reading pleasure.

Here is what Raul had to say:

“In principle, we go into the game in a better position as we are four points above them, but it will be a wide open game,” he explained.

“Besides, in theory, the team that is at home has the advantage because of the atmosphere that is created.

“I will play as if it is my final game. Last year we deserved to win and I think that they would agree with that.

“There is a lot of tension surrounding the game and I do not remember anything about my first visit there, but now I go feeling more relaxed and better prepared mentally.”

“Messi is a superb player, but I do not like to compare him because he is still very young and will bring joy to his club and to his country,” he said.

“He is able to do different thing and there is nobody like him in the world. Everyone enjoys watching a player with such speed and balance and his ability to carry the ball and beat players.

“We are taking about one of the best players in the world and I congratulated him last year after he scored a hat-trick against us.”

“Eto’o is fundamental to them. They will probably recover some of the things that may have been missing,”

Here is what Zidane had to say:

“It is a difficult game because the two teams that are playing are both outstanding and sometimes Real Madrid are favourites and other times Barcelona,”

“I think the game will be a very good one and I expect Real Madrid to win,” he continued. “They are the favourites me because I just cannot see them losing.

“What is happening at Barcelona could happen at any club because they say there are too many stars, but I do not think that will affect them,”

“They are all outstanding players and when they play together they could do great things.”

Here is the little Casillas said:

“It would be an interesting way to start next year, all you can do today is not sure until later. Would be very important to distance, a way to go quietly a week of holidays,”

Henry, Edmilson and Ezquerro are all back in training and could all be on the bench for the game on Sunday. Real has a full squad as of now but we will see after ther cup game against Alicante tonight. Speaking of which, here is some info on that game.

The city of Alicante has donned its best ‘robes’ for tonight’s fixture, preparing for it ever since it was announced in the King’s Cup draw in October. José Rico Pérez Stadium will be filled to capacity, having sold 30,000 tickets to host the match against Bernd Schuster’s side.

An Alicante–Real Madrid fixture has never officially taken place before, but both sides did face each other in a friendly at the Santiago Bernabéu back on 12 October 1956. Alicante won 3-2 against a Real Madrid side with legendary players such as Kopa, Molowny and Roque Olsen in its ranks.

Spectacle is assured tonight because the Real Madrid players to take the pitch will surely want to impress fans and coach alike to earn a spot on the team’s regular starting lineups. Winning the King’s Cup is one of the Club’s goals this season -they haven’t won it in quite a few years

Sixteen men form the Whites’ squad list, inlcuding Christoph Metzelder -recovered from plantar fasciitis- and Arjen Robben -recovered from a muscle strain-. Gabriel Heinze could be a starter tonight; the Argentine played his first minutes after recovering from his injury against Osasuna this weekend.

The second leg will be held at the Bernabéu on 2 January 2008, but Real Madrid want to make sure they go through to the next round tonight.

Im sure there will be a stream on livefooty, its at 8 tonight I think, dont hold me to it, Im in a haze right now anwering phone calls since 9. Adios, and Hala Madrid.

I’m so excited for El Clasico…sooo excited. As always, we’re the top two teams, so it’s as important as ever…

I don’t think Edmilson and Ezquerro will play, no matter what the situation. Henry is back and will be the first forward sub, I imagine, with Eto’o starting. Bojan could see action, but I highly doubt it. We’re healthy again, except for Messi, so you’ll probably see Iniesta come in off the bench for Deco.
