The Grapevine 09/05

By: Corey | September 5th, 2007

Well, during the week things are a little slow in football land. Especially if you dont care about Premiership news. i would turn this into a general sports blog but I have to play golf today and that takes precedent over me writing a long post, maybe some other time. Lets get into the Real news.

I honestly hate this song, but yet again, it gets stuck in your head and you end up singing while you and your friends pass around a pitcher of beer for three hours before you go out. Trust me.

A walk down memory lane for all you faithful readers. This is a classic.

Remember this game? I do, I watched at my grandma’s house while I was on vacation. Its when my parents figured out I really loved football. Is it not funny that the MU scorers were to go on and play for Real Madrid, while the Madrid scorers (that includes you Helguera) no longer play for Real either. Just thought I would point that out.

Grapevine
- Miguel Angel Portugal, Real’s football chief (??) has declared that Cristiano Ronaldo could have been signed as a junior, but was rejected because the policy was not to invest in youth back then. Florentino Perez screwed us over big time. Ohh, and some fuzzy reports that Lio Messi and Gio Dos Santos could also have been signed by Real. I believe it, Barca and Real get the rule over the best young talent in the world, yet Barca always signs the best talent and we get stuck with Paco Pavon and Borja….

- Breaking news!!!! During my run this morning I coughed up blood, awesome.

- I thought this was a good one from everyones favorite grease ball. I liked Valdano better then you buddy…

Real Madrid could not continue playing under the style of former coach Fabio Capello, says sports director Pedja Mijatovic.

He explained: “We realized that the future of Real Madrid could not depend on a trainer with his (Capello’s) style of game. So we signed (Bernd) Schuster and now, in these two weeks, he has demonstrated that he wants to win, but playing football we like.”

Mijatovic also took a swipe at Barcelona’s transfer policy and referring to the ‘Fantastic Four’ he said: “Our philosophy is now very different from Barcelona’s. We want to be neither galactico nor fantastic. We want to be a good team that knows what it wants, to be competitive, young and with desire to win.”

Wow, no shit, yet when you signed him it was because he was a winner. My advice, dont sign Jose Mourinho if you dont want a Capello-like coach ever again

Training: A little practice game then an obstacle course. Sounds like fun, I miss training.

Also, “during said game, the German proved still to have some of the magic touch and quality that made him a legendary player; he gave some extraordinary passes, eliminating some of his own players with his skill.

A practice game with two small goals took place soon after, for which the squad was divided into two teams: Guti, Diarra, Torres, Baptista and Schuster wore orange bibs, while Raúl, Salgado, Higuaín, Soldado and Marcelo wore none. The orange team won a very tight match 21-20. Guti showcased his impressive quality both as playmaker and goal-scorer, netting a total of nine strikes -more than any of his teammates-. Schuster scored two of his team’s goals.”

Schustie, you willy old cat, you still got it.

Also, Roberto Carlos visited training I believe the other day, and had a little press conference where he said he would still have had a spot in the team and that when he collected his things from his locker for the last time he cried. I did too a little Thunder Thighs, one of the greats of Real. Adios readers.

James-Im not really sure James, 3 mile runs are what I do in the morning, for some reason my lungs couldnt handle it today. No biggie. Ive had worse paying soccer.

Haran- Barthez’s positioning on the first goal was terrible, at first glance you expect Ronaldo to go far post, thats the typical shot because keepers cover the near post first and fore most. But no, Barthez is flopping inbetween and is beat. Terrible keeper, how he won what he did is beyond me.

Watching that team pass the ball brings tears to my eyes, every time.

Looking forward to seeing Spain in Euro 2008 this weekend - they’re feeling the crunch. I hope they win against both Iceland and Latvia, and do so without Ramos or Casillas getting injured.
