The Grapevine 8/30
By: Corey | August 30th, 2007The Silly Season Lurches to a Close
This is the second to last day of the transfer market, it is also the draw for the CL group stage. Who do I think will be drawn with Real? I have no clue, I havent kept up with the seedings and stuff, its a crock to me anyways. Does it matter who Real is drawn with, not really, because there guarenteed to have a really bad team in their group that they can take 6 points off and a further 6 points from 4 games and your through to the knockout round. If we can avoid Roma or Lyon, then Spoting and Lazio, and finally Kiev or Fener we shold be fine.
I finally saw the highlights of the Derbi, a week later. I was impressed to be honest, I loved that Schuster and Guti were chatting after Raul’s goal about tactics, and how the squad looked alot more lively then in preseason. This is encouraging and I am going to make an effort to watch the Villareal game this weekend, ill do a preview of that match tomorrow.
Such a good song, check out Bedouin Soundclash. There a solid reggae band from Canada.
Heres the transfer gossip for the day:
- Julio Baptista has decided to stay with Real, rejecting offers from Pool, Milan and Lille? Saw this one comind three months ago
- Fabio Cannavaro will remain with Real for this year and next year, then play a year with Napoli. He is assuming that Real will want him around next year…
- Marcelo would like to go back to Flu on loan, which im on the fence about. Valladolid would give him experience in Spain, while Flu in Brazil. Valladolid is not a guarenteed starting spot, Flu is, so theres pros and cons here. Also, one inury to Heinze and we are techinically short on options at left back, because I dont consider Drenthe a serious option, so we would have Torres, but again he is a a right back…
- In old addage in football is “If all else fails, sign a Brazilian…”

I was aware of him being apart of the Robinho deal, but that was awhile and I completely forgot about him. Real is doing the Barca angle of signing 12 and 15 year olds and putting them in the academy so that by the time they make it to the first team they can get Spanish citizenship and not take up an EU spot.
- Ok, this really pisses me off. http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=54554 Schuster, I will personally be outside your Madrid flat tomorrow morning throwing tomatoes at your window and scream dumbass at you until you come out and face me in a duel to the death.
- Rafeal van der Vaart will not be leaving Hamburg before the transfer deadline, and probably wont be leaving in the winter either. So basically he wont be playing for us this year.
- Barca hammered Inters second string last night, but Etoo got injured and is out for 2 months or so. Which means Henry will get his shot at being the #1 forward. Also, Atletico signed Riquelme from Villareal, which means they need to dump one of their non EU defenders, and Riquelme can be brilliant for a season then start pouting again. Boo Hoo Hoo
Real had a training session today with all the squad members. http://www.realmadrid.com/articulo/rma42232.htm
Check out the pictures, you know you want to. Interesting tid bit, the Argentians stick together, as do the Brazilians, which I dont like. A squad has no clicks, it helps with team unity to be united, and maybe im over analyzing here but its never good when nationalities shut themselves off from the squad ( a la Mascherano and Tevez at West Ham).

Bonus Post
Here is the group stage draw: Group C- Real Madrid, Werder Bremen, Lazio and Olympiacos
Those three teams will give Real a tough time, this is by no means an easy group. Want an easy group, look at Group H, what a joke for Arsenal, Sevilla is a tough opponent but its their first time in the CL. Group D is an even bigger joke, Milan (lets disreguard the fact that their defending their title) always gets an easy draw, always. Group F and G look rough, Inter would do well to top the group by more then 3 points, anyways, theres our group, discuss.
