The Grapevine 9/25
By: Corey | September 25th, 2007
Its been awhile boys and girls, but the grapevine is back. My schedule allows for about 20 minutes to write this blog early in the morning so that I deliver all of the current news from Europe to all of those who have just rolled into work or woken up at the crack of noon. Either way, enjoy, its a celebration bitches.
Hootie Baby!
- Diego and Real Madrid are gonna be best friends for everest. Or so the middle school-ish flirting between the two parties goes. Diego says it would be a dream to play for Real, the Real board has a hard on after watching him play and wants Calderon to do the deal. Well, Diego is good sure, maybe even great. But is he even comparable to this guy?
Maybe an unfair comparison, but I want someone like this to play for us. The technique, the flair, the beautiful game right there. Samir Nasri rumors….oh lord its way to early in the year for those isnt it?
- http://www.uefa.com/competitions/euro/news/kind=1/newsid=593077.html Good for him, but what is a sporting director, and more importantly, how quickly can he get Aragones fired?
Dont act like your not impressed.
- Schustie had “crunch” talks with Pedja and Portugal yesterday. Now what exactly does “crunch” mean, I have a box of cereal here that has a willy old sea captain named Captain Crunch, but surely these two things are different. All of this arose because Schuster said he wasnt happy with the lack of communication in the club, but the press should no better then to make such a meeting appear like a last stand by Schuster.
- http://www.goal.com/en-us/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=425287 Yeah, me too actually.
- David Guiza had this to say “The talented striker is likely to receive a national team call-up in the near future if he continues his good form, and the excited player joked “If I put on Spain’s shirt, I’ll explode, I’ll die.”
He added “Ofcourse my objective is to play for the national team. Any footballer would tell you the same.”
Damn, I havent heard of a footballer spontaneously combusting since Jinky Jenkins in 1923…
- Official Announcement from RealMadrid.com:
25-09-2007 OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Ramón Calderón detained in a New York airport due to mistaken identity
Real Madrid President Ramón Calderón was accidentally detained for several hours in a New York airport after an immigration officer saw that one of the President’s surnames was blacklisted.
This coincidence activated the typical security measures which have been stepped up in recent days due to the U.N. summit and President George Bush’s visit to New York. As soon as the incident was known, the Club contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior.
Once the matter had been resolved, the President of Real Madrid, who is in New York for personal reasons, received an apology and continued about his business.
Whats he doing, smuggling coke in balloons up his arse?
- This is not the place for it, but god damn Emanuel Adebayor. Big guy is lookin fierce right now.
Training Info:
Christoph Metzelder has been injured for a week, since the match against Werder Bremen last Tuesday. The centre back jogged with recover expert José Luis San Martín. Pepe and Codina didn’t work out outdoors today.
The players were in high spirits. Cannavaro, Higuaín, Robinho, Marcelo and Heinze played piggy in-the-middle this morning at the start of the session. The Italian international at one point did an impressive nutmeg against Higuaín. “Now I can retire,” said Cannavaro jokingly after achieveing such a feat. Marcelo and Robinho were the flashiest players this morning, doing all sorts of tricks all the time.
When all the players were out on the pitch, physical coach Jordi García told them to start jogging. This was followed by stretching and specific exercises. Today, two days prior to their League clash with Betis, the Whites attended a physical session with an obstacle course. They have to keep in great shape because they have been scheduled to play 7 games in 21 days.
On Wednesday, the team will hold their last session prior to their fifth League encounter. Real Betis will visit the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium on Thursday looking to earn a victory against the undefeated leaders.

Nice how you avoided mentioning any BARCELONA fans in your thoughts on “Spanish football in general” listing. Check out my blog if you’d like a list of people who are articulate and know a thing or two about the general game and just happen to be Barcelona fans.
And I’m not talking about myself.
