Those Who Decided To Leave
By: Corey | March 31st, 2009I have not had anything to write about, but I just spent three hours reading up on players who graduated from the youth teams in the past 10 years who play in the top three flights of Spanish football. It is an interesting read, and although many of us fans complain about Real’s lack of home grown, they certailny churn out quality professional players.
Check out this list of ex-Castilla players here.
Lets discuss this. Your thoughts and opinions on some of these players are greatly appreciated. I guess what I am proposing to you is, read all of the player bios and make a list of players who you think could have played for Real for more then just one season.

BTW I think that cambiasso is the best defensive mid in the world letting him go as early as we did was yet another big mistake on our part

REALLY GREAT Players we were too dumb to let go of:
Cambiasso & Eto’oGOOD Players who shouldn’t have been let go off (and allowed us to save huge sums of money): Mata, Negredo, Arbeloa, Granero, Solari
They need to have a really good look at the likes of Miguel Torres, Palanca, Szalai, Bueno, Parejo and Dela Red before doing anything to them. And re-look at the likes of the Callejon twins… otherwise we stand to lose even more great talent.

It’s easy to look back on decisions made with a critical eye in hindsight. I don’t think there’s any point in keeping players if they aren’t going to play – it’s not good for anyone. Rightly or wrongly, all Madrid coaches need results immediately, the only place for some of these youth squad players to play is in copa games. So it’s not good for these kids when we get knocked out so early.
There are special cases like Torres and De la Red and possibly Granero who I think we should try to retain and who should get a rotation place in the main squad.
With Guti coming to the end of his career (my opinion) I think there is also the possibility of Parejo could stay – but that would require someone making a tough decision about Guti, and I dont think that going to happen, especially with Perez coming.
I think players like Bueno, Soldado, Negredo, Jurado, Garcia don’t or didn’t make the grade and should go in order to futher their careers – buy back clauses are a good thing in these cases.
I think it’s crazy to bring in players like Faubert when we have better players though.
I can’t dispute Huntelaar, because so far he looks like he has been a different class to the likes of Soldado.Posted from

I think the other element to this discussion is the players we bought in that blocked the progress of youth squad players. Were they up to the grade? I have to say that in all but a couple of cases most of them have been better players than the youth team equivalent at the time.

in hindsight,it seems idiotic that we let cambiasso go. but at that time ,it seemed like his progress had stalled and despite his earlier promise,he wasn’t stepping up as expected. i agree with evo. the players that were brought in were AT THE TIME looking better than the youth.
also when you are desperate for trophies, and have money to spend,no team would take a huge gamble on the youth team until or unless the talent is just precocious. we were desperate. and unstable too. so the mistakes happened. now that there is some light at the end of the tunnel, hopefully, the youngsters will get chances.
