Villa Not For Sale Say Valencia, Head Scratching Begins

Huh??? Since when? It seems that Valencia president Manuel Llorente has really thrown his pair on the table with this statement. A clever negotiation tactic or a clear sign that Valencia do not need to sell to get their debt under control? Considering the reasons why Llorente is in charge currently, I would have to think the club is still up to its eyeballs in debt (then again, how many clubs in Spain are? To many…). But Llorente, after so much as admitting that sales would take place this summer, has reneged on Villa’s transfer status. He is now ‘untransferable’ much like David Silva. Or at least until an “amazing offer” comes in…
“We have taken the decision to not sell David Villa. We’ve taken this decision after some days of thought in which we studied the advantages and disadvantages,” Llorente said.
“We think David Villa is the best striker in Europe and we have the fortune to have him in our team and we are going to fight to keep him.”
“It’s not a strategy, but to avoid all the rumours. Because they affect Valencia, the media and the player.
“We have to be calm and think about the project. When we talked of selling it was because we thought that some players could bring in a lot of money, like Villa. But it’s not been like that.”
“I cannot say that because there could arrive an amazing offer” he added.
So the truth comes out in so closely veiled words Mr. Llorente. Talk of selling players to bring in a lot of money, but it has not happened yet. Because even though Villa is one of the best forwards in Europe, he will never reach the transfer fees of Kaka or Ronaldo. Why you may ask? Because Valencia can hold on to him sure, but they cant sell them for to much either because every club in Europe knows that they need money, so they will be low balled. Negotiating is never so simple as a handshake my friends, especially when the press gets involved.
With that in mind, do these statements really have much merit in them when he finishes off the press conference with “I cannot say that because there could arrive an amazing offer”? That is an admission of defeat if I ever heard one. He has to sell the player, but he wants as much money as possible for him. Except despite Real causing hyper-inflation in the market this summer, Villa’s market price really is some where around 45-50 million euro. How much more can Llorente expect if Real’s competing bidders supposedly tabled bids in that range also?
I am sure that Mr. Llorente was none to please with the arrogant boast Florentino Perez made the other day about Villa being a question of time rather then money. Such comments are usually reserved for after the transfer is completed, or if your Ramon Calderon, before the transfer even starts. Llorente has responded to Perez with a refusal, so now lets see what the Real exec does to get the negotiations back on track. My guess is nothing though, with this little tidbit coming out today as well. That may force Valencia’s hand, or it may not…
Villa’s agent, Jose Luis Tamargo is none to pleased with the comments by Mr. Llorente, as he had this to say.
“They [Valencia] have put us through a situation that is, sadly, very unpleasant because this is no good for anyone.
“Valencia have changed their minds and they are telling us they don’t want to sell the player after, as everyone knows, having talks with three of the four top clubs.”
Considering that while it seems David Villa is very committed to Valencia, he was resigned to being sold as the club did not qualify for the Champions League this year. He also stated a few days ago that he had made up his mind on where he was going to be playing next season. Everyone assumed it was Real he was speaking of. No one figured he could have meant staying with Valencia. Not to speculate to much, it just seemed all to likely he would end up in Madrid, or at the least Barcelona. So he probably said to himself, if he has to move, he better make the right choice and picked one of the two teams. Who knows which one he picked, but now he is staying in Valenica, which he may be happy with but its never good to jerk a player around like that.
With Karim Benzema in the picture all the sudden, does this mean Villa really is out of the picture though? Villa’s agent isnt happy, I am sure Perez is not happy, and it was pretty clear Llorente was not happy with the offers he received. Question is, do we ever stop to wonder if Villa is happy with all of this? Not a distraction he needs while on international duty for sure. So who is right and wrong here? Is this a result of Florentino Perez’s big mouth or is Valenica just trying to jack the price up a little more? And who do you really want at 50 million euros, Daivd Villa or Karim Benzema, who I suppose would go for that much if not a little less with players included for both hit-men. Let me know what you think on all of this!
BONUS NEWS: If any of you are interested, here is a little gallery of photos of the new Real kit which is available at the Bernabeu right now and should be shipping by August.
EXTRA BONUS NEWS: There has been rumors of Mahamadou Diarra being pursued by Juventus this past week. I have simply put my hands over my ears and screamed so I didnt hear them. I love Diarra, so to me he is not up for sale. But….Juventus has a back up plan if Pellegrini and the Real team are against such a move. They will go after Fernando Gago for… drum role please ….. 20 million euro! Ha, have him!
