Weekend Viewing: No Real Madrid broadcast? *UPDATED*
By: Steve | September 28th, 2007Hala Madrid! After last night’s less than convincing win, I’m interested to see how Los Merengues would come out against Getafe who were a thorn in their side the past couple years when coach Schuster was there, but this year under Michel Laudrup, they’re fighting against the drop. Nonetheless, I’d expect a hard-fought match, with Getafe threatening, but Real finishing with at least a draw with some late-game heroics. Sound familiar?
Unfortunately, it’s not at all clear if Sunday’s match will be on TV. Sky Sports isn’t listing any Spanish football for this Sunday, even though in their program guide, they have a big 3 hour slot for a live Liga match. It looks like they might be carrying the Sevilla match instead of Real’s, but we’ll have to check back later.
Unfortunately, without a live TV feed, I’m not that interested in liveblogging from a streaming source because they tend to be hit-and-miss for me, so let’s hope for the best!
UPDATE: Well, I’m almost certain that Real’s match at Getafe won’t be on Sky Sports this weekend. The links I posted earlier indicate either Recreativo v Valencia or Villarreal v Athletic Bilbao, so who knows what we’ll see, but it won’t be Real. Bollocks.

Last night’s game against Betis was broadcast on ppv in Spain at the last minute, so plenty of fans did not get to see it. However, it seems the international feed was unaffected by the dispute between the two rival production companies. Perhaps Sky Sports is just hedging its bets by not announcing which games it will be broadcasting until it is sure of its feed.

Steve - do you get World Sport HD? The game is fixed to be aired on that channel, as well as on Gol TV (US only for the latter, though). For me, the best guide to what will be aired and when is soccertv.com . It’s a little tricky to navigate, but if you scroll to the bottom and click on the Spain link it will show who’s airing what.

Gonzalo, I’m not sure what happened in Spain, but the Sky Sports feed for the Betis match was just fine. Maybe Rupert Murdoch did make that call that I suggested he do! hahaha… I do think that there was a temporary agreement but maybe that will expire already before Sunday’s match against Getafe, who knows.
John, I live in London, so I have no idea about any American channels. My only access to Spanish football here is through Sky Sports, so whatever their program guide says is what I get.
