Ruud-Van-Nistelrooy4
I WANT TO PLAY!

- Ruud wants to return to the starting role with Real Madrid soon, and he also wants to play for Holland in the World Cup this summer. He has not formally discussed his plans with Holland coach Dick Van Marwijk yet, but he is planning on it. Ruu told this and more to Marca recently, when he was quizzed on his plans for next year. He also said that if he was to leave the club in January, probably for a small fee, it would have to be to a team that would allow him to play regularly so that he could go to the World Cup.

On one hand I understand he wants to play for Real and Holland at the WC, but on the other hand he retired from the national team and did not help them progress through the qualifying stages, so is that fair to some of the players that did? And does that mean he should seek a move away from Real, a club where he is idolized by the fans for his goal scoring prowess? We know the club will not resign him so he will leave in the summer regardless, but I would like to have 6 more months to see Ruud in action a few more times.

- Cristiano Ronaldo’s Dutch doctor was flown down to Madrid today to check on the winger’s ankle, and he gave him the all clear to continue training. Ronaldo should thus be fit for selection against Santander this week, with Portugal deciding not to enforce a FIFA rule that would permit his participation so close to an international friendly date that he missed with injury. Whether he starts or not remains to be seen, but the good news is Ronaldo will be available for El Clasico. Keep your fingers crossed.

- In the Madrid derbi, Manuel Pellegrini was hit in the head with a stone on the sidelines of the match. The Competition Committee has decided to fine Atletico a paltry 150 euros for the incident of crowd trouble. The Competition Committee is the same group of nimrods who threw tiny fines at all of the teams with racist chants in their grounds. This is a travesty and just goes to show how ass backwards the LFP really is. We cant even get the time of the match a week in advance still for crying out loud!

- We have been linked with Manuel Vargas of Fiorentina yet again. Im not sure if anyone watches Fiorentina regularly, but Vargas plays as a winger, not a left back. When he did plays as a left back he was nothing short of awful. Why replace two crappy attacking left backs who are better in midfield with the same type of play? GRRRR!!!!!

- Chelsea has had its transfer bid lifted after the Kakuta incident (the youngster has alot of skill but he will never make it at a high level, he is to immature) and now they are looking in to signing a few players in the winter market. Typically many of the team still participating in the Champions League stay out of the winter market as most of the top talent is cup tied. Yet the Daily Star seems to think Chelsea will spend a small fortune on cup tied Sergio Ramos as a partner for John Terry. This is the epitome of bullshit transfer rumors….

- Supposedly Manuel Pellegrini’s job is on the line and El Clasico is his yard stick. Sticking with the Chelsea theme, if Pellegrini was to loose that game(its very difficult for a coach to lose a match, its usually the players that do that), then Phil Scolari would be the obvious replacement according to several news agencies. We discussed this very problem on the podcast this past week, in that it makes no sense to come up with these rumors, yet the media still does constantly. Ugh.

- Another transfer market, another Real Madrid clear out. Except this time it makes some sense.

- This rumor I am actually happy with. Marcel Schafer is a left back for German champions Wolfsburg and has also been involved in the German national team lately. It seems likely he will travel to the World Cup with the team either as Philip Lahm’s backup or as a starter with Lahm switching to the right. Real has been linked with the player in the winter market, in a move that is deemed “probable”. I like Schafer, I think he is an excellent left back and this move makes sense to me. But he is cup tied, and he is unlikely to want to put his place in the World Cup in danger by moving clubs. So no probable winter switch, but Real would do well to tie him up before the World Cup this summer, as he as well as Filipe Kasmirski are my two favorite left backs right now. Roberto Canella and Michel Bastos would be third and fourth right now, although Bastos is being played in midfield at Lyon, so he might fall under the Vargas category…

- And finally, a brief interview with Rafeal Van der Vaart, who several fans have taken to once again after showing more then enough fight on the field despite never really producing much of anything in his substitute appearances. He has rejected a move to Hamburg in the winter in order to stay with Real for the remainder of the year.

“I am going to stay, I will not have a transfer,” he told Bild.

“It was not like it should have been in the past but now I am getting to games and believe I will be having a great time at Real Madrid.

“This is nothing against Hamburg, the Hamburg fans or the club. They are still very much part of my heart.

“This is a decision in favour of Madrid and not against Hamburg.”

I appreciate that Rafeal, but in your case, it might be best to move on because Pellegrini is only using you because Guti is in the dog house right now. We have some talented youngsters in the Castilla team in C team that we may want to take a look at and your in there way. So if you want to go to the World Cup just like Ruud does, you may want to consider a move away in the winter.

Its been awhile since I did one of these, but its always nice to do a quick round up of the sludge that the various press outlets churn out every day about transfers.

He’s been our 9 for a while, a striker that reaps great results with little effort, the work of a truly gifted player. However in this new era he understands that benzema and higuain are the main options and Raul coming out as a sub, i think Ruud realizes he might become Saviola and that’s every strikers’ nightmare. Worst case scenario, CR can also play as a striker and Real will resort to sign another winger. I appreciate the dutch striker and would love to keep him but apparently he wants to play as much as he can.

    Vicente Calderon fined 150 euros.

If the federation doesn’t force the club to settle down its crowds, then they don’t deserve to be at the heights they’ve been up until recently. Its not the first time or second, the vicente calderón has turned into a hen of screamers and hooligans. In the latest years i recall international coverage in the riots at the stadium when confronting olympique of mareseille. In another case racist hooting chants (however this example was wrongly interpreted since The ‘Kun’ Aguero has a battle call in reference to a manga cartoon which sounds as a hoot. Problems at the vicente calderón has become a recurring issue.

    Signings

I wouldn’t read to far into the tentative players the press throws out to the crowds. There are three main players that are in the top agenda of either Real or Barca.

1-Cesc Fabregas. Barcelona seems to have a headstart, since Sandro Rossell (most likely barca’s new president once soon-to-be-president of cataluña Joan Laporta steps down this summer)says to have a pre-agreement with the arsenal midfielder. We know Cesc is catalan but he’s never really pointed in any direction. Real Madrid may take advantage of their current contract with adidas in order to tie him up, since he’s also married to the sports brand.

Silva: Real needs a left winger, kaka is coming out of the left at the moment since there’s an absent player for that position. If silva took on the left, ideally Real could play with silva and CR on both wings, kaka in the middle and benzema or higuain up front.

Ribery- If this takes place it won’t be until next season and he’s suffered some injuries recently which has set an alarm at the bernabeu. I assume Ribery might be Real’s first pick but silva also quenches my thirst.

    Guti

Valdano said Real’s number 14 will be back this week, in other words, he’s told pelle this kid will retire in madrid and that he can’t waste time punishing important players.

One thing i forgot is all the hype that CR might be “fully” back in shape for the clásico. So the kid is out for over a month, will return to play only one match vs zurich and off he goes to barcelona in full shape. Doesn’t make sense, hope he plays stellarly, but players just dont recover their best form in one training session.

Watching the France-Ireland game at the moment. France are lucky for their goal to have been accepted.

Nothing good to say about the Madrid players in the match. Lassana Diarra just played arguably the worst game in his life and Benzema is rotting in the bench for Domenech’ preferred choice Ginac. Who else here wishes Doemench to replace Guardiola as Barcelona coach? :)

ex-Madrista Anelka is playing fantastic. The man is class. It’s a shame he couldn’t show it with us.

God, how I wish we had Evra on our team.

The man is absolutely amazing. Easily the best LB in the world by a mile. Today’s Maldini? Probably.

Ha! Zizou and Barthez in the stadium.

Even without trying, Zizou is cool.

I really wish Marcelo would watch this game. At least get an *understanding* of what defending i.

sure, well i actually had respect for Henry before tonight, i really thought he was 1 of the most honourable men left in football, football is getting so shit, Anelka should have been sent off of diving to get a penalty, wtf is the point in refs?

No joke, Zizou. Henry just hand-of-God’d France into the World Cup, after it looked like karma would revenge Anelka’s dive. Though for Benzema and Lass’s sake I was hoping France would go through, I’m having a hard time accepeting this win. How will FIFA explain this one away?

yes its crazy, i’ve never wanted football to change, like having extra ref’s behind the goal and crap, but after tonight thats it might as well get technology involved, ref’s can’t do their job anymore. And i don’t even have a problem with the hand ball orginaly as its instinctive to move your hand, its the fact he fucked off and celebrated when he knew he cheated and should have told the ref so. Were is the Di canio’s and Fowler’s of this world??

Let’s not point fingers at Henry. 99 percent of players wouldn’t have told the ref they committed a handball.

Eddie, what zizou is saying is that Henry is one of the 1 percent that used to admit if it was a hand ball. He has done that several times before. The fact that he didn’t do that today was the issue of debate. It was his best quality as a footballer. Something 99% of the other players in the world didn’t have.

I must also note, Arbeloa played as a left back for spain today. He didn’t do the best job ever, and that was because he tried to attack too much i think. Even on the right side of defense, he won’t be any good doing that.

well, i dont think henry is any saint. he’s bent the rules before, as have most of the footballers on the planet. but its exactly what anyone would have done in the 100th minute of a WC qualifying playoff match. it sure must be horrible for the Irish to take though.

It really doesn’t matter in the long run. I’m a die hard Les Bleus fan, but with this manager, it is NOT going to win the World Cup.

Some of the things Domenech does with squad selections and tactics are absolutely horrifying. Who on earth would place Abidal in the CB position when you have Mexes for that role? Gignac on as opposed to Benzema? Anelka playing deep? Two defensive pivots?

    Domenech=moron

Henry’s handball was a disgrace. FIFA should ban him from next World Cup. These incidents ruin football. Can’t wait for the 2 area refs rule to be applied in all games. These handballs, divings, shirt pulling etc. will surely decrease.

I couldn’t get the France match unfortunately, so had to sit through another goal fest from La Roja
Seeing the Villa goals I again ask myself, why we didn’t splash the cash on him this summer. Benzema is just not impressing at all. Hopefully I will eat my words
Could you guys throw some light as to why Lass played so badly as you’ve commented. Tiredness?Positioning? What?

Sorry Zizou I disagree re Ronaldo, I know you don’t like him but the fact of the matter is we spent an insane amount of money on him and it’s evident that he makes a huge difference to the team, despite what the players might say that a happy motivated Ronaldo will be better for the team as well as the financial gain as Eladir pointed out.
Maybe the down side would be that if Portugal hadn’t qualified he would have busted his guts to win a trophy with Madrid and now might be saving himself for the WC
We’ll have to wait and see, I think his personality will make him go for everything

France as a whole, under Domenech, is pathetic! They are playing like a 2nd division league team. No kidding. Yesterday’s game against Ireland they had like 1 chance for goal in 120min. All that while having a superb roster. World-class players, but the coach is awful.

That’s the reason Lass was bad yesterday plus the fact that he’s been incosistant this season with his perfomances. Maybe it’s because he gets tired playing all the time, dunno. He’ll propably be rested against Racing after playing 200+ tough minutes in 4 days.

re henry what he did was a disgrace but sometimes when you’re playing footy you tend to handle the ball without even knowing why i did it plenty of times and trust me its not because i was trying to cheat it just happens in the heat of the moment but then again when he handled it the first time he then handled it a second time so i guess he really tried to cheat his way to glory
anyways france didnt deserve to go throught yesterday now watch them go on and win the whole thing i pray to god though that that wont be the case

ah shit forgot about that Andres, hmm guess Metzelder will get to play then, and Marcelo i’m guessing will go left back :( and with Henry no no, i can understand the handball it was just there to touch, and it wasn’t a yellow or nothing,( the 1st time, the 2nd time he pushed it to help him i guess was a yellow) it just he carried on and he knew he handballed it and should have said something, or even better the ref should have done his bloody job! the goal shouldn’t have stood anyways. Something should be done.

Benzema is fantastic, and us getting him was a great move. However, the issue with BOTH Kaka and Benzema has been about where we are putting them on the field and the roles they play. Benz has been largely accused of being selfish in his Lyon days which really was a concern and it led to an on-field argument between him and Govou. But it seems like he’s over-compensating by not taking shots at all. The quality in his game that I see (and I see in Rooney of Manchester United) is the small back & forth passes he does which would eventually lead to a goal. For once, I’d like to see him just a bury a shot. As fat Ronaldo told Benz, it’s your goddamn right!

adidas won’t play a part in us luring Cesc to the Bernabeu, from what I understand, Cesc is sponsored by Nike, unless he’s changed sponsors in the last month or so…

Having said that, it only makes sense for him to go to Barcelona, being catalan and with Nike sponsoring the team, that’s the easiest move for him…

What Henry did is just part of the ugly side of football: the same way as when players dive, or fake injuries, or pretend they got poked in the eyes or headbutted, etc, etc, etc just to fool the ref and make him punish the opposing team.

If anything, it’s the ref’s and linemen’s fault they didn’t see the handball, and if FIFA doesn’t want this to happen ever again, well, make the right choices and implement the necessary changes…

Nobody’s going to admit they cheated when the fate of their country is on the line, if anything, they’ll try to cheat more just so they can get the result: Maradona anyone????
